Mobile DPF Cleaning across Lower Hookner and Devon
Mobile DPF cleaning goes to the vehicle. A fitter comes at your address in Lower Hookner, clears the diesel particulate filter while it is still on the motor, carries out a DPF regeneration, and you keep the filter you started with.
The visit runs typically around 2 hours, the clean opens from £299, and the price is settled on the phone before anyone sets off.
Most owners find us with the light already on, and the car down on power. That is exactly what this page is written for.
Your DPF light is showing — what now?
Not the filter, automatically. First thing to get straight. Plenty of faults put the same light on the very same dash, which is why a visit starts with a check rather than with cleaning.
How the car is run in the meantime counts too.
- Worth a shot before you book anything: amber light, vehicle driving normally, just one constant run, no cost.
- Once the motor is in limp mode, driving will not shift it. The window has shut.
- Diesel smell in the car, or black smoke under acceleration — stop booking long drives and get it seen to.
The motor has been showing you already
Last news, the light. The symptoms generally mount for weeks before it appears:
- power dropping away, above all going uphill
- revs that will not pull the way they used to
- the fuel use is poorer
- silently, the stop/start bows out
- diesel in the cabin, or smoke on the way up through the box
None of that is conclusive by itself. With the light, it is a fair assumption the filter is loaded.
What clogs diesel particulate filters near Lower Hookner
For a DPF, the worst motoring is the sort you find in a small village such as Lower Hookner. The school run to Moretonhampstead Primary School, B3212 at a halt at half eight, five minutes to The Co-operative Food, the dash to Okehampton — nothing of it lasts long enough or gets hot enough for the filter to finish a regeneration. The soot builds up rather than clearing.
Where you sit does not help either. The M5 is under 15 miles from Lower Hookner and Exeter is under 15 miles away, so unless something carries you out that way routinely, whole weeks go by without the long unbroken run that might empty the filter alone.
The point a DPF regeneration can no longer complete
It is self-defence: that is all limp mode is. The real catch is that a proper drive works by setting off a regeneration, and under limp mode the revs will not climb and power is limited.
The usual advice — take it up the motorway — is sensible, up until it is not. Once the motor is in limp mode you are the far side of that stage, and the filter needs cleaning rather than road work.
The motor stays put for on-site DPF cleaning in Lower Hookner
The filter does not come off. That is the bit most owners do not anticipate: the job takes place with the DPF even now fixed to the vehicle, on your front, in a work car park, anywhere the car can sit for a couple of hours.
First a scan. Running ECU data, the soot load as a percent and as a weight, the sensors, the glow plugs, the associated components — all of it logged before a thing is started.
Soot and ash that a regeneration alone will never move are lifted next, by a solution fed through the access port on that car, which opens out inside the filter. Sometimes a filter is clogged enough to need doing twice.
Next, a regeneration burns off everything the clean freed. Ride along with the motor and it becomes a monitored drive out of Lower Hookner. Leave it and the regeneration is done in place, with running data verified once it is done.
Then a second check, confirming the change, clearing the warning light and listing anything still logged. Both reports are emailed over, so the before and after figures are recorded.
When a DPF clean is not the solution
One thing is what cleaning cures — a filter choked with soot and ash. It does little for:
- a pressure or temperature sensor showing a block that is not there
- the EGR valve stuck open
- the AdBlue system playing up
- a regeneration that hardly ever runs, because of glow plugs or injectors
- oil passing through the filter from a failing turbo
The first scan is there for just that. When one of those proves the fault, you find out about it at the outset rather than once the money has left for good.
DPF renewal is what people type in, but no part is exchanged: the filter you own is cleaned where it sits and returned to use. Nor is having it cut out a remedy, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes illegal. Two more things worth bearing in mind.
What DPF cleaning runs to across Lower Hookner
A clean begins from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it pays for the call-out, the booking, the checks and the advice.
The price is agreed on the phone, once we have the vehicle and what the filter is going to need. No flat rate could be truthful. Two separate things shift it: what you drive, and where you are — Lower Hookner itself, over at Jurston, or further out across the TQ postcode area.
You are not charged for treatment that the check says will not do it. The call-out charge still applies, because the visit, the scan and the advice have been done.
If the light returns inside that period, an engineer comes back out to Lower Hookner — the work comes with a 30-day warranty covering aftercare.
5 star service from DPF Fixer. Liam the engineer who attended my home was very pleasant, professional and went through the entire process in detail. He also helped resolve the problems, I had with my vehicle. Highly recommended to anyone who needs a DPF cleaning service at home.

Vehicles we clean, and where we get to around Lower Hookner
The filter is cleaned in place on all of them: cars and estates, vans of any size and light commercials, HGVs, construction and plant machinery, farm vehicles. Nothing is taken anywhere.
Lower Hookner is hardly ever a special trip: our engineers are along B3212 nearly every week, and the same run covers Jurston, North Bovey and the spots out past Manaton. Further out around Devon is even so worth ringing about — coverage runs UK-wide, and it is the schedule rather than the distance that decides between today and tomorrow.

What Lower Hookner drivers want to know about DPF cleaning
- Can I just take it for a long drive?
- Sometimes, if you spot it early enough and the vehicle has not fallen into limp mode. Fifteen minutes to The Co-operative Food and back will not be enough; motorway speed, sustained for a stretch, will.
- How long does the visit last?
- Bank on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean adding to that where the filter is heavily blocked.
- How much does it run to across Lower Hookner?
- Treatment begins from £299, and the call-out charge on top takes in the visit, the check and the advice. Both the vehicle and where you are change it, which is why pricing is done by phone.
- Have I have to be there?
- The vehicle needs a spot for two hours or so. You need not be in it. The regeneration can be run as a watched drive if you would sooner be there.
- When can someone get to Lower Hookner?
- That comes down to the schedule, but it is often same-day or next-day. Call 0303 330 1830 and you will know what is free across the TQ area.
- Is the filter taken off the car?
- On the mobile service, no: the filter is done in place. Nor does taking a filter off nor bolting one back on is work we do.
- Suppose the light comes back?
- Aftercare falls inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer coming back to Lower Hookner.
