Mobile DPF Cleaning across Lower Cam, Gloucestershire

Sorting the DPF takes place at the motor, not at a workshop. No garage, no filter leaving. An engineer travels to your address over in Lower Cam, clears the diesel particulate filter where it is, performs a DPF regeneration, and you end up with the filter you started with.

Nobody sets off until the price is fixed on the phone. The visit runs typically around 2 hours and the clean begins from £299.

The light is already on and the vehicle is down on power — that is how we normally find people, and precisely what this page covers.

Your DPF light is lit — what next?

The filter is not necessarily what is at fault, and that comes first. A check comes before any cleaning, because that same dash light has several possible faults behind it.

How the vehicle is run in the meantime matters too.

  • A long constant run may even now be enough, provided the light is amber and the motor runs normally. Costs zero, so have a go at that before ringing.
  • Once the vehicle is in limp mode, driving will not touch it. The window has gone.
  • Stop booking long drives and get it looked at if the car reeks of diesel or there is black smoke when you press on.

What the car has been warning you

The light is belated news. By the time it shows, the symptoms have generally been building for a while:

  • power tailing off, above all pulling uphill
  • an engine whose revs will not pull as before
  • economy that is worse than it used to be
  • stop/start silently giving up
  • a diesel smell in the interior, or smoke under the throttle

None of that is evidence on its own. The light with them indicates a blocked filter.

What clogs diesel particulate filters around Lower Cam

For a DPF, the least kind driving is the type you meet around a residential suburb such as Lower Cam. None of it runs long enough or is hot enough for the filter to complete a regeneration: the school run to Cam Hopton Church of England Primary School, Noel Lee Way crawling at half past eight, five minutes to Tesco, the run to Cam & Dursley. What should burn away stays put.

Geography does not assist either. The M5 is under a mile from Lower Cam and Gloucester is under 15 miles away, so unless something pulls you out that way regularly, whole weeks pass without the long steady run that would scour the filter alone.

Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration gives out

The car is protecting itself, which is what limp mode amounts to. The real difficulty is that a proper drive works by starting a regeneration, and under limp mode the revs will not pull and power is capped.

The common advice — get it up the motorway — is good, right until it is not. The filter needs cleaning rather than more driving once the vehicle has gone into limp mode.

Call-out DPF cleaning where the car stands round Lower Cam

Most people do not anticipate this detail: the filter stays put. The job takes place with the DPF even now fixed to the vehicle — on your drive, in a work car park, wherever the car can wait for a while.

First a check. Live ECU data, the soot load as a percentage and as a mass, the sensor readings, the glow plugs, the associated parts — all of it taken before any of it is cleaned.

Soot and ash that a regeneration alone will never budge are freed next, by a cleaning fluid put through the access port on that car, which spreads inside the filter. Where the filter is severely blocked, expect a second pass.

Then a regeneration, to burn off what the clean has lifted. Either it goes as a monitored drive out of Lower Cam, with you along, or it is done where the vehicle waits and the real-time data is read afterwards.

Both reports go over by email, so the figures from either end are on record. The second diagnostic is what confirms the change, resets the light and notes whatever is still outstanding.

What a DPF clean will not touch

A filter clogged with soot and ash is the one thing a clean cures. It will not touch:

  • a temperature or pressure sensor showing a block that is not there
  • the EGR valve stuck open
  • AdBlue system failures
  • injectors or glow plugs that block a regeneration completing whatsoever
  • oil working through the filter from a worn turbo

Which is why the scan happens first. If it proves to be one of those, you are warned before any work starts rather than after you have handed over a penny.

Two more worth knowing. Leaving the filter cut out is not a solution — a vehicle without a serviceable DPF cannot pass its MOT and driving it is an offence. And cleaning is sometimes searched for as DPF renewal: nothing is replaced, your own filter is cleaned in place and put back into use.

DPF cleaning prices in Lower Cam

Cleaning opens from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it pays for the call-out, the booking, the checks and the advice.

No single flat rate would be straight, so the figure is agreed over the phone once we know the vehicle and what the filter is going to need. Two separate things shift it: what you run, and where you are — Lower Cam itself, out at Fairmead, or otherwise out within the GL postcode area.

Treatment that will not work is not a clean you pay for, and the scan is what says so. Because the visit, the check and the advice have happened, the call-out charge even so holds.

If the light reappears inside that period, an engineer travels back out to Lower Cam — the job comes with a 30-day warranty including aftercare.

Where we travel around Lower Cam, and what we clean

The one call-out service covers private cars, vans and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, plant and construction machinery and farm vehicles, and on every one the filter is cleaned on the vehicle rather than moved anywhere.

Lower Cam is rarely a special trip: engineers are working Noel Lee Way most weeks, and the same run covers Fairmead, Cam and the spots out past Upthorpe. Ring anyway from farther out across Gloucestershire. Coverage runs UK-wide, and the date you get comes down to the calendar rather than how far away you are.

Questions Lower Cam drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Can I just take it for a long drive?
If you spot it early, and the motor is not in limp mode, sometimes. A long run at motorway speed is what it wants — not fifteen minutes or so to Tesco and back.
How long does the visit last?
That is typically around 2 hours, though a severely clogged filter can take cleaning twice, which runs on.
What does it cost in Lower Cam?
Cleaning opens from £299, and the call-out charge on top pays for the visit, the scan and the advice. Both the vehicle and where you are shift it, which is why settling it goes by phone.
Must I be around in person?
No. The motor needs space to stand for a couple of hours; you do not need to stand with it. Travel along if you prefer, and the regeneration turns into a monitored drive.
Can someone come to Lower Cam soon?
That comes down to the diary, but it is often same-day or next-day. Ring 0303 330 1830 and you will learn what is open across the GL area.
Will the filter be removed?
Not on the call-out service — it is done where it sits. Getting a filter off or fitting one back on come to anything something we do either way.
The light returns — then what?
Covered by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer coming back to Lower Cam.
