Lowca, Cumbria: Mobile DPF Cleaning
The vehicle remains in place — mobile DPF cleaning goes to it. No body shop, no filter coming off. A technician travels to your door over in Lowca, treats the diesel particulate filter in place, carries out a DPF regeneration, and you end up with the filter you came with.
You'll know a figure by phone before anyone leaves, the clean beginning from £299, and the visit lasting typically around 2 hours.
The light is on already and the vehicle is short of power — that is how we generally meet people, and what this page is about.
The DPF light is on. What next?
The unit is not automatically what is wrong, and that leads. Treatment is not where a visit opens. A diagnostic is — several faults appear as the same light.
Second thing: how you drive it between now and then makes a difference.
- Motor still driving fine on an amber light — attempt a long steady run first. It costs nothing and often clears the filter without help.
- That window has closed once the motor has dropped into limp mode. A drive will not do it now.
- A diesel smell in the car, or black smoke under hard acceleration, is the moment to stop planning long drives and book it in.
Signs the motor has been showing you
Late news, the light. The symptoms tend to mount for a while before it arrives:
- power dropping away, especially climbing uphill
- revs that will not rise the way they used to
- the fuel economy is poorer
- a stop/start that has meekly given up
- diesel in the interior, or smoke on the way up through the gears
On its own, none of that is evidence. Next to the light, it is a fair guess the filter is full.
Why diesel particulate filters choke near Lowca
Being a coastal village, Lowca produces exactly the use a DPF manages least well. Look at a typical week: Lowca Community School and home, East Road at a crawl before half nine, a short hop to Tesco, a hop to Parton. Nothing there goes on long enough or runs hot enough to finish a regeneration. The soot that should burn away banks up instead.
The map does not help either. The M6 is under 50 miles from Lowca and Carlisle is under 50 miles away, so unless something pulls you out that way often, whole weeks slip past without the long unbroken run that might empty the filter on its own.
Why limp mode prevents a DPF regeneration
It is self-preservation: that is all limp mode means. Output is held down, the revs will not climb, and the regeneration the filter needs can no longer happen — which is the entire catch, because a sustained drive works by starting that regeneration.
The standard advice — get it up the motorway — is sensible, until it is not. Once the vehicle is in limp mode you are beyond that stage, and the filter needs a clean rather than more driving.
DPF cleaning at the car round Lowca
Most owners do not expect this detail: the filter stays on. The job happens with the DPF yet bolted to the vehicle — on your drive, in a work car park, any place the car can wait for a couple of hours.
A diagnostic goes first — real-time data off the ECU, soot load by proportion and by mass, and a review of the sensors, glow plugs and associated hardware, so other faults are ruled out before any of it is started.
Soot and ash that a regeneration on its own will never budge are lifted second, by a cleaning solution passed through the access port on that motor, which opens out inside the filter. Where the filter is heavily loaded, plan on a second pass.
Then a regeneration, to clear what the clean has lifted. If you are there, that is done as a monitored drive out of Lowca; if not, on the spot where the car stands, with the live data checked afterwards.
Finally the scan runs again — the change verified, the light cleared, anything still outstanding noted. Both reports reach you by email, so the numbers are kept.
What a DPF clean will not cure
Treatment answers one thing: a filter choked with soot and ash. It does no good for:
- a temperature or pressure sensor flagging a restriction that is not there
- an EGR valve stuck open
- AdBlue system problems
- injectors or glow plugs that block a regeneration completing in the first place
- a turbo pushing oil through the filter
Which is why the check goes first. When one of those proves the fault, you find out about it at the outset rather than once the money has left already.
DPF renewal is what people search for, but no part is exchanged: the filter you have is cleaned where it sits and put back to work. Nor is having it cut out a solution, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes an offence. Two more things worth noting.
DPF cleaning costs in Lowca
The clean starts from £299. A call-out charge is added to every visit, and takes in the call-out itself, the booking, the diagnostic and the advice that comes with it.
Publishing a flat rate would not be straight. We settle it by phone, once the car and its probable needs are established. What you drive and where you are both change it: Lowca itself, across at Low Moresby, or further out within the CA postcode area.
If the scan rules a clean out, there is nothing to pay for it. The call-out charge still applies, because the visit, the scan and the advice have been done.
The clean includes a 30-day warranty taking in aftercare, including an engineer travelling back out to Lowca if the light comes back inside that time.
Ashley at DPF fixer did a first class job cleaning my Jaguar DPF, Very efficient, informative, knowledgeable. More than happy with the service I received today, would recommend.
Daz was a polite friendly engineer explained the process clearly. carried out the work confidently, so happy with the job so far.
I phoned at short notice and they managed to fit me in the same day. The fix has worked a treat.
Vehicles we clean, and where we reach around Lowca
Whatever it is — car, van, light commercial, HGV, plant, construction machinery, farm vehicle — the one on-site service holds, and the filter never leaves it.
Our engineers are along East Road most weeks, so Lowca is rarely a detour, and the same run picks up Low Moresby, Common End and the places out past Parton. Ring anyway from farther out through Cumbria. Coverage runs UK-wide, and the date you get hangs on the diary rather than how far away you are.

Common questions on DPF cleaning in Lowca
- Does a long run sort it?
- It might, provided you catch it early enough and limp mode has not begun. That means motorway speed for a sustained stretch, rather than a short trip to Tesco.
- How long does the visit take?
- That is typically around 2 hours, though a heavily loaded filter can need cleaning twice, which takes longer.
- What does it cost across Lowca?
- A clean begins from £299, and the call-out charge on top covers the visit, the check and the advice. The vehicle and your address both move the price, so we quote on the phone.
- Must I be there in person?
- A spot for the motor to sit, for a couple of hours, is all that is wanted. Not you. The regeneration can be run as a monitored drive if you would rather ride along.
- How soon can someone get to Lowca?
- You are in for often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is already in the diary. Ask 0303 330 1830 what is available across the CA area.
- Is the filter lifted off the vehicle?
- It is done where it stands, on the call-out service. Lifting a filter off or bolting one back on amount to anything a job we do in either direction.
- The light reappears — then what?
- The 30-day warranty includes aftercare, including an engineer heading back to Lowca.
