Mobile DPF Cleaning across Low Ham and Somerset

Cleaning the DPF takes place at the car, not at a garage. No body shop, no filter going anywhere. A fitter drives out to your door in Low Ham, treats the diesel particulate filter where it is, runs a DPF regeneration, and you keep the filter you came with.

The visit runs typically around 2 hours, the clean begins from £299, and the price is agreed on the phone before anyone sets off.

The light is showing and the motor is low on power — that is how we normally find people, and precisely what this page covers.

Your DPF light is lit — what next?

Not the unit, automatically. Main thing to note. Several faults put the same light on the identical dashboard, which is why a visit begins with a check rather than with cleaning.

It tells what you do with the vehicle between now and the appointment.

  • Car still driving as normal on an amber light — attempt a long constant run first. It costs nothing and often shifts the filter without help.
  • A drive will not touch it now — limp mode means that window has already gone.
  • Get it seen to rather than using it — diesel in the cabin, or smoke on acceleration, has gone past the long-run stage.

Before the light, what the vehicle was telling you

Symptoms have generally been mounting for a while before the light ever arrives. Last news, in other words:

  • falling off on power, especially uphill
  • an engine whose revs will not climb like they did
  • worse fuel consumption
  • stop/start without a word packing in
  • diesel in the interior, or smoke on the way up through the box

None of that is proof on its own. With the light, it is a fair assumption the filter is blocked.

The explanation diesel particulate filters block round Low Ham

Being a village, Low Ham generates exactly the driving a DPF handles least well. Not one bit of it runs long enough or gets hot enough for the filter to finish a regeneration: the school run to High Ham Church of England Primary School, Low Ham Road standing at half past eight, five minutes to Tesco, the hop to Bridgwater. Instead of burning away, the soot load banks up.

Unless you have a routine reason to head out to the M5, under 10 miles from Low Ham, or across to Wells under 15 miles away, weeks slip past without a long steady stint. Geography is no help.

DPF regeneration, and the moment limp mode stops it

Limp mode is the vehicle looking after itself. With power limited and the revs held, the regeneration the filter needs will not run at all. That matters, because starting one is precisely what a motorway run does.

The standard advice — get it up the motorway — is good, until it is not. In limp mode you are the far side of that line: cleaning is what will do it, not more road work.

DPF cleaning at the motor across Low Ham

Nothing is taken from the motor. That catches out people. The DPF remains fixed where it is and the work is done around it, on a drive, in a works car park, anywhere it can wait for two hours or so.

A diagnostic goes first — running data off the ECU, soot load by percentage and by mass, and a check of the sensor feeds, glow plugs and connected hardware, so other faults are ruled out before anything is cleaned.

Next comes the clean itself: cleaning fluid in through the vehicle's own entry point, spreading inside the filter and freeing what a regeneration cannot. Where the filter is heavily loaded, allow for a second pass.

What the clean has freed is then burned off by a regeneration. That is a monitored drive out of Low Ham if you are there, or a static regeneration where the motor stands, with the real-time data checked after.

Both reports go over by email, so the figures from either end are recorded. The second scan is what verifies the change, clears the light and logs whatever is still open.

The failures a DPF clean cannot fix

Only one fault is fixed by a clean: the filter blocked with ash and soot. It does little for:

  • sensors, pressure or temperature, flagging a blockage that is not real
  • an EGR valve held open
  • an AdBlue system fault
  • injectors or glow plugs that stop a regeneration completing whatsoever
  • turbo failure, with oil reaching the filter

That is what the first diagnostic is for. You are told before all work starts, not after you have settled up, if it turns out to be one of those.

Two things more worth noting. Leaving the filter gutted is not a fix — a vehicle without a functioning DPF cannot pass its MOT and driving it is illegal. And cleaning is sometimes looked up as DPF renewal: nothing is exchanged, your original filter is cleaned in place and sent back into use.

Costs for DPF cleaning around Low Ham

Cleaning starts from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it pays for the call-out, the booking, the scans and the advice.

Once we have what you run, and about what the filter will need, the price gets settled over phone. A single price for all would not be straight. Two separate things shift it: what you drive, and where you are — Low Ham itself, across at Bramwell, or further out in the TA postcode area.

You are not charged for a clean that the check says will not work. What even so stands is the call-out charge, since the visit was made, the diagnostic was run and the advice was offered.

The work carries a 30-day warranty covering aftercare, including an engineer travelling back out to Low Ham if the light reappears inside that window.

Vehicles we clean, and where we travel around Low Ham

Cars, vans and light commercials, HGVs, construction and plant machinery, agricultural machinery — a single call-out service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is done where it sits rather than carried anywhere.

Low Ham is rarely a special trip: engineers are working Low Ham Road nearly every week, and the same run takes in Bramwell, Stout and the places out past Wearne. Coverage reaches UK-wide, so further out around Somerset is nonetheless worth a phone call, and what picks between today and tomorrow is the diary rather than the distance.

Usual questions on DPF cleaning across Low Ham

Can I merely take it for a long drive?
Sometimes, if you get it early enough and the motor has not slipped into limp mode. It wants a steady run at motorway speed, not ten minutes to Tesco and back.
The visit takes how long?
That is typically around 2 hours, though a badly loaded filter can require cleaning twice, which adds time.
Price around Low Ham — what is it?
Cleaning begins from £299, and the call-out charge on top takes in the visit, the diagnostic and the advice. We price on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both change the price.
Is it needed for me to be around?
A spot for the vehicle to wait, for a couple of hours, is all that is needed. Not you. If you would rather come along, the regeneration can be done as a supervised drive instead.
Getting to Low Ham — how soon?
Depending on the schedule, often same-day or next-day is normal. Ask 0303 330 1830 what is free across the TA area.
Is the filter removed from the vehicle?
It is treated where it stands, on the on-site service. That job — a filter off, a filter back on — is not a job we do.
And if the light reappears?
An engineer comes back out to Low Ham — the 30-day warranty covers aftercare.
