The motor has been showing you already
Symptoms have generally been building for some time before the light so much as shows. Last news, in other words:
- dropping away on power, above all uphill
- you notice the revs fall short of where they used to go
- fuel economy getting worse
- the stop/start quietly bowing out
- smoke under acceleration, or a diesel smell in there
Any one of those, taken alone, is not conclusive. With the light, it is a fair guess the filter is loaded.
What chokes diesel particulate filters round Lochfoot
For a DPF, the poorest use is the type you get in a village such as Lochfoot.
