Mobile DPF Cleaning around Lobb and Devon
On-site DPF cleaning goes to the vehicle. No workshop, no filter leaving. A technician travels to your address across Lobb, clears the diesel particulate filter in place, runs a DPF regeneration, and you hold on to the filter you came with.
The visit runs typically around 2 hours, the clean opens from £299, and the number is fixed over the phone before anyone travels.
The light is already on and the vehicle is low on power — that is how we generally come across people, and precisely what this page is about.
DPF light on? What happens next
It may not be the DPF whatsoever. That is the main thing. That light can come from plenty of faults, not just one, so the visit opens with a scan and not with a clean.
How the car is driven in the meantime matters too.
- A long steady run may yet do it, provided the light is amber and the vehicle goes as normal. Costs nothing, so attempt that before booking.
- Motor already fallen into limp mode — that window has gone. A drive will not shift it now.
- Get it seen to rather than running it — diesel in the interior, or smoke on acceleration, has gone beyond the long-run stage.
Signs the motor has been giving you
Symptoms have generally been growing for weeks before the light ever arrives. Belated news, in other words:
- less power, especially going uphill
- revs that will not climb the way they once did
- fuel economy going worse
- the stop/start without a word bowing out
- smoke under the throttle, or a diesel smell in the car
Any one of those, taken by itself, is not proof. With the light alongside them, the filter is a fair assumption.
Choked diesel particulate filters around Lobb, and the reason
For a DPF, the poorest use is the kind you find around a rural hamlet such as Lobb. Not one bit of it goes on long enough or is hot enough for the filter to complete a regeneration: the school run to Kingsacre Primary School, Broad Lane crawling at the morning rush, a few minutes to Cawthorne's Foodmarket, the run to Barnstaple. Unburnt soot that should clear collects instead.
Neither is far from Lobb: under 50 miles to the M4, under 50 miles to Swansea. Neither is on the way to much most weeks, though, so the run that would clear a filter hardly ever gets made.
The stage a DPF regeneration can no longer happen
The motor is looking after itself, which is what limp mode is. With output held down and the revs pinned, the regeneration the filter needs can never complete at all. That matters, because triggering one is precisely what a long run does.
So the common advice to run it up the motorway is sensible advice, up until the day it is not. Once the motor is in limp mode you are the far side of that stage, and the filter requires a clean rather than more driving.
Where the motor stands is where the DPF is treated in Lobb
On your front, in a work car park, any place the car can wait for a while: the job takes place with the filter even now fitted on, which is the detail most drivers do not anticipate.
Nothing is started until other faults are cleared. That means a diagnostic first: running data off the ECU, soot load by proportion and by weight, and a review of the sensor readings, glow plugs and related components.
Soot and ash that a regeneration alone will never shift are loosened after that, by a cleaning solution fed through the access port on that car, which expands inside the filter. Severely blocked filters sometimes require a second pass.
Next, a regeneration clears everything the clean lifted. If you are there, that is done as a monitored drive out of Lobb; if not, in place where the motor waits, with the running data checked after.
A second check proves the change, clears the warning light and lists anything still outstanding. Both reports are sent over, so you keep the before and after figures to hand.
The faults a DPF clean cannot cure
Only one fault is fixed by treatment: the filter blocked with ash and soot. It does nothing for:
- sensors, pressure, flagging a blockage that is not real
- EGR valves that stick open
- an AdBlue system fault
- injectors or glow plugs that stop a regeneration completing whatsoever
- the turbo passing oil into the filter
The first scan is there for just that. If it is found to be one of those, you are let know before any work begins rather than after you have handed over for it.
Gutting the filter out is not a remedy: without a working DPF a vehicle cannot pass its MOT, and driving it is illegal. DPF renewal is the wording people search for, though nothing is swapped — your original filter is cleaned in place and returned into use. Two more worth noting.
The figure of DPF cleaning across Lobb
A call-out charge stands whatever the outcome, and pays for the visit, the booking fee, the scan and the advice offered. Cleaning itself opens from £299.
No flat rate would be honest, so the number is fixed by the phone once we have the vehicle and what the filter is likely to need. The vehicle moves it, and so does the location — Lobb, Saunton, or anywhere otherwise out in the EX postcode area.
If the diagnostic writes treatment out, there is nothing to pay for it. You even so pay that charge: someone turned up, ran the check and gave you the advice.
If the light comes back inside that time, an engineer heads back out to Lobb — the job includes a 30-day warranty taking in aftercare.
Nic was very attentive, professional and patient with me as I was running late. He cleaned my dpf and made my car feel brand new. Can't thank dpf filter enough.
Fantastic service from Andras and his trainee assistant (Andy?) sorry the name has slipped my brain. Andras was very knowledgeable and he got my van running within good time. I'm very happy with the service I was given! Thank you.
Liam was courteous, efficient and quickly sorted the blockage for us in the DPF. Very happy with the service provided. Would recommend.
The vehicles we clean and the ground we cover around Lobb
The one call-out service spans private cars, vans and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, construction and plant machinery and farm vehicles, and on every one the filter is done in place rather than carried anywhere.
The same round that puts technicians on Broad Lane most weeks covers Lobb, Saunton, Forda and the spots beyond Georgeham. Ring anyway from further out through Devon. Coverage runs UK-wide, and the slot you are offered depends on the calendar rather than how far away you are.
Lobb itself
Lobb is a small coastal hamlet in Devon, situated near the villages of Darracott and Saunton. Lobb lies at an elevation of 51 metres, overlooking the surrounding countryside. Lobb is characterised by its detached housing and quiet, rural atmosphere, with the nearest city being Swansea, located across the Bristol Channel.
What Lobb drivers wonder about DPF cleaning
- Is a long drive enough alone?
- If you spot it early, and the car is not in limp mode, sometimes. Fifteen minutes to Cawthorne's Foodmarket and back will not be enough; motorway speed, kept for a while, will.
- Does the visit last long?
- That is typically around 2 hours, though a heavily clogged filter can take cleaning twice, which takes longer.
- Price in Lobb — what is it?
- It starts from £299, plus the call-out charge covering the visit, the diagnostic and the advice. Both the vehicle and where you are move it, which is why pricing happens by phone.
- Must I be there in person?
- The motor requires a spot for two hours or so. You do not need to be in it. Ride along if you like, and the regeneration turns into a monitored drive.
- Getting to Lobb — how soon?
- That depends on the calendar, but it is often same-day or next-day. Call 0303 330 1830 and we will let you what is available across the EX area.
- The filter — does it come off the car?
- Cleaned where it is, on this service, so no. Neither job — a filter off, a filter back on — is not work we do.
- What if the light comes back?
- Aftercare sits inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer heading back to Lobb.
