By the time the light arrives, things have normally been slipping for weeks. It is belated news:
- power tailing off, above all going uphill
- you find the revs stop short of where they used to go
- the fuel consumption is down
- stop/start quietly bowing out
- a diesel smell in the car, or smoke under acceleration
That is not evidence by itself. It is a fair guess the filter is loaded once the light is there too.
Why diesel particulate filters block around Llancarfan
The day-to-day driving that goes with a coastal village like Llancarfan is the worst sort for a DPF.
