Mobile DPF Cleaning in Little Torrington, Devon
With call-out DPF cleaning, we drive out to the car. An engineer arrives at your address over in Little Torrington, cleans the diesel particulate filter while it is attached to the motor, carries out a DPF regeneration, and you end up with the filter you came with.
Reckon on the visit taking typically around 2 hours. The clean starts from £299, agreed by the phone before anyone travels.
If the light is on already and the vehicle is down on power, this page is for you. That is how most drivers get to us.
What to check when the DPF light shows
First thing: it is not always the filter. Cleaning is not where a visit starts. A scan is — several faults show up as the same light.
How the vehicle is driven in the meantime makes a difference too.
- Worth a try before you book anything: amber light, motor driving fine, just one steady run, no cost.
- That window has gone once the vehicle has dropped into limp mode. A drive will not help now.
- Diesel smell in the cabin, or black smoke under acceleration — stop planning long drives and get it seen to.
Signs the car has been sending you
Belated news, the light. The symptoms tend to mount for a while before it appears:
- pulling uphill, the power tails off
- an engine whose revs will not pull as they should
- worse fuel economy
- stop/start without a word giving up
- a diesel smell in the cabin, or smoke under hard acceleration
That is not proof by itself. The light with them indicates a loaded filter.
What chokes diesel particulate filters around Little Torrington
For a DPF, the worst use is the kind you get around a village such as Little Torrington. Look at a normal week: Great Torrington Bluecoat Church of England Primary School and back, A386 at a halt before the hour, a short hop to Co-op Food, a run to Chapleton. Nothing there lasts long enough or gets hot enough to finish a regeneration. The soot that should burn off builds up instead.
Geography does not oblige either. The M5 is under 50 miles from Little Torrington and Exeter is under 50 miles away, so unless something takes you out that way often, weeks slip past without the sustained run that could empty the filter by itself.
Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration stops working
The car is defending itself, which is what limp mode means. A proper drive works by triggering a regeneration, and that is exactly what limp mode rules out: power limited, revs held down, no regeneration available.
Taking it up the motorway is the common advice, and it stands up to a limit. The filter needs a clean rather than driving once the vehicle has dropped into limp mode.
DPF cleaning at the car round Little Torrington
The filter does not leave it. That is the part most owners do not see coming: the job is done with the DPF yet fixed to the car, on your driveway, in a work car park, anywhere the motor can sit for a few hours.
First a scan. Running ECU data, the soot load as a percent and as a figure, the sensors, the glow plugs, the related hardware — all of it logged before a thing is cleaned.
Then the cleaning. A cleaning fluid goes in through the access port on that vehicle and opens out inside the filter, loosening the soot and ash a regeneration alone will never shift. A second pass is sometimes required on heavily blocked filters.
Then a regeneration, to clear what the clean has freed. That is a monitored drive out of Little Torrington if you are present, or a static regeneration where the motor waits, with the running data checked once done.
Both read-outs come through by email, so the figures from either end are recorded. The second check is what proves the change, puts out the light and notes whatever is still open.
What a DPF clean will not fix
Cleaning answers one thing: a filter choked with soot and ash. It does no good for:
- sensors, pressure or temperature, flagging a block that is not real
- an EGR valve held open
- a problem in the AdBlue system
- glow plugs or injectors preventing the regeneration starting in the first place
- a turbo pushing oil through the filter
Which is why the diagnostic happens first. You are warned before any work gets going, not after you have handed over, where it turns out to be one of those.
Two more worth noting. Having the filter cut out is not a remedy — a vehicle without a functioning DPF fails its MOT and driving it is illegal. And cleaning is sometimes described as DPF renewal: nothing is exchanged, your own filter is cleared in place and returned into use.
Figures for DPF cleaning in Little Torrington
A call-out charge holds whatever follows, and covers the visit, the booking fee, the check and the advice given. Cleaning itself starts from £299.
No single flat rate would be straight, so the figure is agreed by the phone once we are told the vehicle and what the filter is apt to need. The vehicle moves it, and so does the postcode — Little Torrington, Great Torrington, or anywhere farther out in the EX postcode area.
Cleaning that will not work is not a clean you pay for, and the check is what says so. You even so pay that charge: someone came out, carried out the scan and offered you the advice.
Aftercare is included by a 30-day warranty: should the light return within it, an engineer returns to Little Torrington.
Very pleased came out within hours of booking dpf clean engineer quickly sorted van back on site that evening all done in a day got a print out of all vehicle readings.
Baz (the DPF Technician) was absolutely superb; he was knowledgeable, polite and informative. Importantly he cleaned and restored my DPF such that my car performance returned to normal.
Thank you Igor for resolving the dpf issue with my vw cc on 15.7.24. Kudos to the back office team as well for answering my questions beforehand. Vroom, vroom!
The vehicles we clean and the ground we reach near Little Torrington
Cars, vans of any size and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, plant machinery, farm vehicles — the one call-out service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is treated where it sits rather than moved anywhere.
Week in week out there is already someone on A386, so Little Torrington hardly ever means a journey of its own, and Great Torrington, Berry Cross and the places past Taddiport follow. Even further out through Devon is still worth phoning about — coverage runs UK-wide, and it is the diary rather than the distance that picks between one day and the next.

Common questions on DPF cleaning in Little Torrington
- Will a long drive shift it?
- If you get it early, and the car is not in limp mode, sometimes. Five minutes to Co-op Food and back will not be enough; motorway speed, held for a while, will.
- Broadly how long does it last?
- It is typically around 2 hours. A severely blocked filter can take a second clean, which extends that.
- How much does it run to around Little Torrington?
- A clean starts from £299, and the call-out charge on top covers the visit, the scan and the advice. Quoting is done by phone, since what you own and where you live both move the figure.
- Is it essential for me to be present?
- The car requires a space for two hours or so. You do not need to be in it. Wanting to be there is no problem: the regeneration then goes out on the move, monitored.
- Coming to Little Torrington — how soon?
- Depending on the calendar, often same-day or next-day is usual. Ring 0303 330 1830 and you will learn what is available across the EX area.
- Is the filter taken off the motor?
- On the call-out service, no: the filter is cleaned in place. Taking a filter off or fitting one back on amount to anything work we do either way.
- Suppose the light reappears?
- Aftercare sits inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer coming back to Little Torrington.
