Mobile DPF Cleaning across Little Common and Essex
Call-out DPF cleaning travels to the car. No garage, no filter going anywhere. A fitter drives out to your door in Little Common, clears the diesel particulate filter in place, performs a DPF regeneration, and you end up with the filter you arrived with.
The visit takes typically around 2 hours, the clean begins from £299, and the figure is settled over the phone before anyone travels.
Most owners find us with the light showing, and the car low on power. That is the position this page is meant for.
DPF light on? What comes next
First thing: it is not automatically the unit. A scan goes before any work, because that same dashboard light has plenty of possible faults behind it.
It matters what you do with the vehicle between now and the booking.
- A long even run may yet be enough, provided the light is amber and the motor runs normally. Costs zero, so attempt that before ringing.
- Once the motor is in limp mode, motoring will not reach it. The window has gone.
- Stop planning long drives and get it seen to if the cabin smells of diesel or there is black smoke when you press on.
The car has been warning you already
By the time the light shows, things have usually been slipping for a while. It is last news:
- less power, above all going uphill
- the revs no longer climb the way they once did
- economy that is worse than before
- the stop/start quietly bowing out
- the interior smelling of diesel, or smoke when you pull away
Any one of those, taken singly, is not proof. It is a fair bet the filter is loaded once the light is on as well.
The explanation diesel particulate filters choke around Little Common
For a DPF, the worst driving is the sort you meet across a rural hamlet such as Little Common. The school run to Rayne Primary and Nursery School, Mill Lane at a halt at the morning rush, five minutes to Tesco, the dash to Braintree — nothing of it runs long enough or runs hot enough for the filter to complete a regeneration. Instead of clearing, the unburnt soot collects.
Except when you have a routine need to head out to the M11, under 15 miles from Little Common, or over to Chelmsford under 10 miles away, weeks slip past without a sustained drive. Geography is against you.
DPF regeneration, and the point limp mode ends it
What limp mode amounts to is the vehicle protecting itself. A proper drive works by triggering a regeneration, and that is just what limp mode prevents: power capped, revs pinned, no regeneration on offer.
So the usual advice to get it up the motorway is good advice, up until it stops being. Once the vehicle is in limp mode you are beyond that line, and the filter requires a clean rather than more driving.
Where the vehicle stands is where the DPF is done in Little Common
Nothing is taken from the car. That surprises people. The DPF remains bolted where it is and the work happens around it, on a drive, in a works car park, wherever it can stand for a couple of hours.
A diagnostic comes first — real-time data off the ECU, soot load by proportion and by mass, and a check of the sensors, glow plugs and connected parts, so other faults are ruled out before any of it is touched.
Next comes the clean itself: solution in through the vehicle's own access point, spreading inside the filter and loosening what a regeneration never can. A second pass is sometimes called for on severely clogged filters.
What the clean has loosened is then cleared by a regeneration. That is a monitored drive out of Little Common if you are along, or a static regeneration where the vehicle sits, with the live data verified after.
Finally the diagnostic runs again — the change confirmed, the light put out, anything still outstanding noted. Both reports arrive with you by email, so the numbers are kept.
When a DPF clean is not the solution
Treatment fixes one thing: a filter blocked with soot and ash. It does nothing for:
- pressure sensors reporting a restriction that is not there
- an EGR valve stuck open
- an AdBlue system problem
- injectors or glow plugs that stop a regeneration completing in the first place
- the turbo putting oil into the filter
That is what the first check is for. If one of those is the fault, you find out about it at the outset rather than once the money has left already.
A couple more worth knowing. Getting the filter cut out is not a remedy — a vehicle without a serviceable DPF fails its MOT and driving it is against the law. And cleaning is sometimes searched for as DPF renewal: nothing is exchanged, your existing filter is cleaned in place and put back into use.
The cost for DPF cleaning in Little Common
The cleaning starts from £299. A call-out charge applies to every visit, and pays for the call-out itself, the booking, the scan and the advice that follows.
No single flat rate would be honest, so the number is settled on the phone once we have the vehicle and what the filter is likely to need. Whereabouts you are matters as much as what you own: Little Common itself, Molehill Green next door, or otherwise out in the CM postcode area.
If the diagnostic counts a clean out, there is no charge to pay for it. You still pay that charge: someone turned up, ran the check and passed on you the advice.
The work includes a 30-day warranty including aftercare, including an engineer coming back out to Little Common if the light returns inside that time.

The vehicles we clean and the area we take in round Little Common
A single mobile service spans private cars, panel vans and light commercials, HGVs, construction and plant machinery and farm vehicles, and on every one the filter is treated in place rather than moved anywhere.
Week in week out there is usually someone on Mill Lane, so Little Common hardly ever means a special trip, and Molehill Green, Great Notley and the places past Rayne follow. Coverage is UK-wide, so even further out across Essex is nonetheless worth a call, and what picks between today and tomorrow is the schedule rather than the distance.

What Little Common drivers want to know about DPF cleaning
- Can I simply take it for a long drive?
- It might, provided you catch it early enough and limp mode has not arrived. A long run at motorway speed is what it wants — not five minutes or so to Tesco and back.
- How long does the visit run?
- Count on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean adding to that where the filter is badly loaded.
- Cost around Little Common — what is it?
- It opens from £299, plus the call-out charge paying for the visit, the check and the advice. Both the vehicle and where you are change it, which is why pricing happens by phone.
- Must I be there in person?
- Space for the vehicle to sit, for a couple of hours, is all that is needed. Not you. The regeneration can be carried out as a watched drive if you would sooner ride along.
- When can someone travel to Little Common?
- That comes down to the calendar, but it is often same-day or next-day. One phone call to 0303 330 1830 and you will know what the CM area has open.
- Will the filter be removed?
- Treated where it sits, on this service, so no. Lifting a filter off or fitting one back on count as anything a job we do whichever way.
- Suppose the light returns?
- An engineer comes back out to Little Common — the 30-day warranty takes in aftercare.
