Mobile DPF Cleaning in Leob, Argyll and Bute
The vehicle sits in place — call-out DPF cleaning goes to it. An engineer turns up at your place over in Leob, clears the diesel particulate filter while it is attached to the vehicle, carries out a DPF regeneration, and you hold on to the filter you started with.
Nobody travels until the price is fixed by the phone. The visit lasts typically around 2 hours and the clean begins from £299.
The light is on already and the car is down on power — that is how we normally come across people, and roughly what this page is about.
The DPF light is on. What then?
It may not be the filter at all. That is the first thing. That light can come from a number of faults, not just one, so the visit begins with a diagnostic and not with cleaning.
Second thing: how you handle it between now and then makes a difference.
- Motor still driving as normal on an amber light — try a long even run first. It costs nothing at all and frequently shifts the filter without a visit.
- Once the vehicle is in limp mode, a long run will not reach it. The window has shut.
- A diesel smell inside, or black smoke under hard acceleration, is the point to stop booking long drives and book it in.
The vehicle has been warning you already
The light is belated news. By the time it shows, the symptoms have normally been growing for a while:
- dropping away on power, especially uphill
- revs that will not pull the way they once did
- the fuel economy is down
- silently, the stop/start bows out
- a diesel smell in the interior, or smoke under hard acceleration
That is not proof by itself. With the light beside them, the filter is a fair guess.
The reason diesel particulate filters choke around Leob
Being a coastal area, Leob produces just the driving a DPF manages worst. A regeneration wants time and heat, and gets none: not on the school run to the local primary school, not on A849 at half eight, not on five minutes to the local shops, and not on the run to the nearest station. What should clear remains.
The M8 lies over 50 miles from Leob, Glasgow over 50 miles out, and unless something pulls you out that way often, entire weeks pass without the sustained run that empties a unit. Geography does not help.
The stage a DPF regeneration can no longer happen
Limp mode is the car looking after itself. Output is limited, the revs will not pull, and the regeneration the filter wants can never run — which is the entire catch, because a long drive works by setting off that regeneration.
Sensible advice, that motorway run — right up until the point it is not. The filter needs a clean rather than driving once the car has gone into limp mode.
Where the motor stands is where the DPF is done in Leob
The filter does not leave it. That is the bit most drivers do not see coming: the job takes place with the DPF even now fixed to the motor, on your drive, in a work car park, wherever the car can stand for a couple of hours.
Nothing is started until other faults are ruled out. That means a check first: live data off the ECU, soot load by proportion and by mass, and a look over of the sensors, glow plugs and associated components.
A cleaning fluid after that is fed in through the access point on that motor, opening out inside the filter to lift soot and ash a regeneration on its own will never move. Severely clogged filters sometimes take a second pass.
What the clean has loosened is then driven off by a regeneration. Either it goes as a monitored drive out of Leob, with you there, or it runs where the vehicle sits and the live data is verified after.
Both reports come through by email, so the figures from either end are kept. The second check is what verifies the change, resets the light and notes whatever is still showing.
Where treatment is not the answer
One thing is what cleaning fixes — a filter choked with soot and ash. It does nothing for:
- a pressure sensor flagging a blockage that is not there
- the EGR valve held open
- a problem in the AdBlue system
- worn glow plugs or injectors, so not one regeneration ever runs
- a turbo pushing oil through the filter
The first scan is there for just that. If it proves to be one of those, you are told before any work gets going rather than after you have paid anything.
DPF renewal is what people look up, but no part is swapped: the filter you have is cleaned where it sits and returned to use. Nor is having it gutted a solution, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes unlawful. Two more things worth knowing.
What DPF cleaning runs to around Leob
Each visit carries a call-out charge — getting to you, taking the booking, carrying out the diagnostic and offering the advice. The clean itself begins from £299.
Once we know what you own, and about what the filter will need, the price gets agreed over phone. A single price for every job would not be straight. The motor changes it, and so does the location — Leob, Lee, or somewhere further out in the PA postcode area.
Where the diagnostic says cleaning will not do it, you are not charged for cleaning. The call-out charge nonetheless stands, because the visit, the diagnostic and the advice have been done.
A 30-day warranty includes aftercare on the clean, and that includes an engineer coming back out to Leob if the light comes back inside the window.
Engineer arrived within 2 hours of my phone call! He was polite and helpful, explained everything and did exactly what he said he would, perfect!
CHECKED THE CAR OVER FOR DPF FOUND A LOT OF SOOT IN FILTER. CLEARED THE FILTER CAR DRIVES A LOT BETTER. WORTH CHECKING.
Turned up as arranged and investigated the problem including running diagnostics. Turns out dpf was ok. Very helpful in pin pointing the problem.
Vehicles we clean, and where we reach around Leob
The filter is treated on the vehicle on all of them: cars, panel vans and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, construction and plant machinery, farm vehicles. Nothing is moved anywhere.
Leob is hardly ever a special trip: our engineers are along A849 most weeks, and the same run takes in Lee, Achnahard and the spots out past Ardtun. Even further out across Argyll and Bute is even so worth a call — coverage is UK-wide, and it is the calendar rather than the distance that picks between one day and the next.

Leob is part of a wider region of scattered communities and rugged coastline, close to Lower Ardtun and other nearby places.
What Leob drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Will a long drive sort it?
- It may, provided you get it early and limp mode has not arrived. That means motorway speed for a sustained stretch, rather than a brief trip to the local shops.
- About how long does it run?
- Count on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean adding to that where the filter is severely loaded.
- The cost around Leob — what is it?
- Opening from £299, with a charge for travelling that pays for the scan and advice on what to do next. The vehicle and your address both move the number, so we price on the phone.
- Do I have to be present?
- The motor needs a space for two hours or so. You need not be in it. The regeneration can be run as a supervised drive if you would sooner be there.
- Can someone get to Leob soon?
- Depending on the diary, often same-day or next-day is typical. One call to 0303 330 1830 and you will learn what the PA area has free.
- Is the filter taken off the vehicle?
- On the call-out service, no: the filter is cleaned in place. Taking a filter off or bolting one back on count as anything a job we do whichever way.
- What if the light comes back?
- Aftercare sits inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer heading back to Leob.
