Mobile DPF Cleaner

Lent, Buckinghamshire: Mobile DPF Cleaning

Treating the DPF happens at the motor, not at a garage. No body shop, no filter coming off. An engineer travels to your place across Lent, treats the diesel particulate filter as it sits, runs a DPF regeneration, and you end up with the filter you arrived with.

The visit takes typically around 2 hours, the clean starts from £299, and the price is agreed on the phone before anyone travels.

The light is showing and the motor is low on power — that is how we generally find people, and roughly what this page covers.

What to try when the DPF light shows

First thing: it is not automatically the filter. A clean is not where a visit opens. A scan is — plenty of faults show up as the same warning.

It matters what you manage with the motor between now and the appointment.

  • Amber light, vehicle still driving as normal — a long steady run can still sort it alone. Costs nothing, and worth trying before you ring anything.
  • Car already dropped into limp mode — that window has closed. A drive will not touch it now.
  • Get it checked rather than running it — diesel in the cabin, or smoke on acceleration, has gone past the long-run stage.

Signs the car has been showing you

Symptoms have generally been building for weeks before the light so much as shows. Late news, in other words:

  • pulling uphill, the power falls off
  • the revs no longer climb the way they always did
  • the fuel economy is poorer
  • the stop/start silently bowing out
  • diesel in the car, or smoke on the way up through the gearbox

Any one of those, taken singly, is not evidence. It is a fair bet the filter is blocked once the light is showing too.

The cause diesel particulate filters clog around Lent

For a DPF, the least kind driving is the sort you find in a small village such as Lent. Run through a normal week: St Peter's Church of England Primary School and back, Lent Rise Road at a standstill before the hour, a quick trip to Tesco, a dash to Taplow. Nothing there runs long enough or runs hot enough to finish a regeneration. Soot that should burn away collects instead.

Unless you have a routine need to get out to the Huntercombe Spur, under 3 miles from Lent, or across to St Albans under 25 miles away, whole weeks go by without a long steady drive. Geography is against you.

DPF regeneration, and the moment limp mode stops it

What limp mode amounts to is the vehicle protecting itself. With pulling power capped and the revs kept low, the regeneration the filter requires can never complete at all. That tells, because triggering one is precisely what a long run does.

Taking it up the motorway is the standard advice, and it stands as far as a point. Once the vehicle is in limp mode you are the far side of that stage, and the filter requires cleaning rather than more driving.

Where the motor stands is where the DPF is treated across Lent

Nothing leaves the vehicle. That surprises people. The DPF remains bolted where it is and the work goes on around it, on a driveway, in a works car park, wherever it can stand for a couple of hours.

Nothing is touched until other faults are cleared. That means a scan first: live data off the ECU, soot load by percentage and by mass, and a review of the sensor feeds, glow plugs and connected parts.

Then the clean. A cleaning solution is fed in through the access point on that car and spreads inside the filter, loosening the soot and ash a regeneration by itself will never budge. Heavily clogged filters sometimes require a second pass.

Next, a regeneration clears everything the clean loosened. If you are there, that is done as a monitored drive out of Lent; if not, statically where the vehicle waits, with the running data verified once done.

Then a second diagnostic, verifying the change, putting out the warning light and noting anything still outstanding. Both read-outs are emailed, so the before and after figures are on record.

When a DPF clean is not the answer

A filter choked with soot and ash is the one thing cleaning fixes. It will not help:

  • pressure sensors showing a block that is not there
  • an EGR valve held open
  • an AdBlue system failure
  • a regeneration that hardly ever completes, because of glow plugs or injectors
  • turbo problems, with oil entering the filter

Which is why the diagnostic comes first. Proving to be one of them means learning it before any work begins, not after handing over anything.

Two more worth bearing in mind. Having the filter hollowed out is not a fix — a vehicle without a working DPF fails its MOT and driving it is illegal. And cleaning is sometimes searched for as DPF renewal: nothing is replaced, your existing filter is treated in place and returned into use.

Figures for DPF cleaning across Lent

A call-out charge holds whatever happens, and takes in the visit, the booking fee, the diagnostic and the advice passed on. The clean itself starts from £299.

Once we are told what you run, and about what the filter will take, the number gets settled by phone. A single price for everyone would not be straight. Where you are tells as much as what you own: Lent itself, Rose Hill close by, or otherwise out in the SL postcode area.

Cleaning that will not work is not a clean you pay for, and the check is what says so. You even so pay that charge: someone turned up, did the scan and offered you the advice.

If the light comes back inside that period, an engineer comes back out to Lent — the clean includes a 30-day warranty including aftercare.

Cleaning a diesel particulate filter at the vehicle in Lent

Quick and easy to book, arrived same day, not had an issue since the clean was complete (been a month now) - would recommend.

My father in law used this service. He was very impressed with the whole process and Kieran was very knowledgeable and explained everything thoroughly. Highly recommend.

Angie M.

Baz (the DPF Technician) was absolutely superb; he was knowledgeable, polite and informative. Importantly he cleaned and restored my DPF such that my car performance returned to normal.

What we clean, and how far we travel round Lent

A single mobile service takes in cars, panel vans and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, plant machinery and agricultural vehicles, and on every one the filter is cleaned where it sits rather than taken anywhere.

Lent is seldom a special trip: engineers are working Lent Rise Road week in week out, and the same run picks up Rose Hill, Taplow and the spots out past Hitchambury. It is the schedule, not the distance, that settles whether it is today or tomorrow, and coverage runs UK-wide — so ring anyway from even further out across Buckinghamshire.

Common questions on DPF cleaning around Lent

Can I merely take it for a long drive?
Early enough, and with the car out of limp mode, yes — sometimes. Ten minutes to Tesco and back will not manage it; motorway speed, sustained for a while, will.
Does the visit take long?
Bank on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean adding to that where the filter is heavily clogged.
What does it cost around Lent?
The call-out charge pays for the visit, the check and the advice; treatment itself opens from £299. The vehicle and your address both change the figure, so we quote on the phone.
Do I have to be there?
The vehicle requires a place for two hours or so. You need not be in it. If you would sooner come along, the regeneration can be run as a watched drive instead.
How soon can someone travel to Lent?
You are offered often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is currently in the diary. One phone call to 0303 330 1830 and you will learn what the SL area has free.
Is the filter lifted off the car?
Not on the on-site service — it is treated where it stands. Nor does getting a filter off nor putting one back on is work we do.
The light returns — then what?
Aftercare sits inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer coming back to Lent.
