Mobile DPF Cleaning serving Lea, Wiltshire
Cleaning the DPF is done at the car, not at a body shop. Your vehicle is not taken away and the filter doesn't leave it. A technician arrives at your place across Lea, clears the diesel particulate filter still on the vehicle and runs a DPF regeneration.
Nobody leaves until the number is agreed over the phone. The visit takes typically around 2 hours and the clean opens from £299.
The light is already on and the car is short of power — that is how we normally come across people, and what this page deals with.
Your DPF light is showing — what next?
It could not be the DPF in the end. That is the opening thing. A scan comes before the work, because that same dash light has plenty of possible faults behind it.
How the car is handled in the meantime matters too.
- Motor yet driving fine on an amber light — have a go at a long constant run first. It costs nothing at all and often sorts the filter without help.
- Motor already dropped into limp mode — that window has gone. A drive will not touch it now.
- Get it looked at rather than running it — diesel in the cabin, or smoke on acceleration, has gone beyond the long-run stage.
The motor has been warning you already
The light is late news. By the time it appears, the symptoms have generally been growing for weeks:
- less power, particularly going uphill
- the revs no longer pull the way they used to
- fuel use that is worse than it was
- a stop/start that has silently packed in
- the car reeking of diesel, or smoke when you press on
That is not evidence on its own. The light with them suggests a loaded filter.
Clogged diesel particulate filters round Lea, and the cause
Being a village, Lea throws up precisely the use a DPF handles worst. The school run to Lea and Garsdon Church of England Primary School, The Cedars at a crawl at half past eight, a few minutes to Waitrose, the dash to Kemble — none of it runs long enough or runs hot enough for the filter to finish a regeneration. Instead of clearing, the unburnt soot banks up.
Neither is a long way from Lea: under 5 miles to the M4, under 25 miles to Bath. Neither is on the way to anything most weeks, though, so the drive that would empty a filter hardly ever gets made.
DPF regeneration, and the moment limp mode ends it
It is self-protection: that is all limp mode means. A proper drive works by triggering a regeneration, and that is just what limp mode prevents: power capped, revs held down, no regeneration possible.
Good advice, that motorway run — right up until the day it is not. In limp mode you are the far side of that point: a clean is what will do it, not more driving.
DPF cleaning at the motor across Lea
Nothing is taken from the vehicle. That surprises people. The DPF stays fitted where it is and the work is done around it, on a forecourt, in a works car park, wherever it can stand for two hours or so.
The ECU is read first, giving soot load by proportion and by weight, along with a check of sensor feeds, glow plugs and associated parts, so nothing is started while another fault is still in play.
Next comes the clean itself: a cleaning solution in through the vehicle's own access port, spreading inside the filter and loosening what a regeneration never can. Sometimes a filter is clogged enough to need doing twice.
What the clean has lifted is then cleared by a regeneration. Either it is done as a monitored drive out of Lea, with you there, or it runs where the car sits and the live data is read once done.
Both sets of figures come through by email, so the figures from either end are kept. The second scan is what verifies the change, clears the light and lists whatever is still open.
Where cleaning is not the solution
A filter clogged with soot and ash is the one thing treatment answers. It will not help:
- the wrong figure from a temperature or pressure sensor
- an EGR valve held open
- an AdBlue system fault
- injectors or glow plugs that block a regeneration running whatsoever
- oil passing through the filter from a worn turbo
Which is why the diagnostic goes first. You are told before any work starts, not after you have handed over, if it turns out to be one of those.
Two more worth bearing in mind. Leaving the filter hollowed out is not a solution — a vehicle without a working DPF fails its MOT and driving it is an offence. And cleaning is sometimes described as DPF renewal: nothing is swapped, your own filter is treated in place and put back into use.
What DPF cleaning runs to in Lea
A call-out charge holds whatever happens, and covers the visit, the booking fee, the scan and the advice passed on. Cleaning itself opens from £299.
No single flat rate would be honest, so the number is fixed by the phone once we have the vehicle and what the filter is apt to need. What you own and where you are both shift it: Lea itself, over at Burton Hill, or further out within the SN postcode area.
If the diagnostic writes treatment out, there is no charge to pay for it. The call-out charge nonetheless holds, because the visit, the scan and the advice have been done.
A 30-day warranty includes aftercare on the clean, and that includes an engineer travelling back out to Lea if the light returns inside the period.
Ash was great. Super friendly and equipped with plenty of knowledge. Glad he got sent to help my car out!
Booked late Wednesday and the job done on the Friday. Igor the technical was brilliant. He explained how the cleaning work and gave aftercare guidance too. Slight downside is the cost at £420 a pop.
Very friendly polite operative who arrived on time messaged me to say he was here. Told me there wasn't a fault with the DPF so there would be no charge gave me a few suggestions on what it might be so will check those out. Thanks Chris.
Where we travel around Lea, and what we clean
Private cars, vans and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, plant machinery, farm vehicles — a single call-out service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is cleaned on the vehicle rather than moved anywhere.
The same run that has our engineers on The Cedars most weeks takes in Lea, Burton Hill, Bisley and the spots beyond Milbourne. Even further out across Wiltshire is still worth phoning about — coverage reaches UK-wide, and it is the diary rather than the distance that decides between today and tomorrow.
Lea itself

What Lea drivers want to know about DPF cleaning
- Does a long run shift it?
- Sometimes, if you get it early enough and the vehicle has not fallen into limp mode. A steady run at motorway speed is what it takes — not fifteen minutes to Waitrose and back.
- Does the visit take long?
- Allow typically around 2 hours — heavily blocked filters sometimes need a second pass, which lengthens it.
- The cost around Lea — what is it?
- A clean begins from £299, and the call-out charge on top pays for the visit, the diagnostic and the advice. Both the vehicle and where you are shift it, which is why quoting happens by phone.
- Do I have to be around?
- No. The motor wants space to sit for a couple of hours; nobody expects you to stand with it. Choosing to be there is fine: the regeneration then runs out on the open road, monitored.
- How soon can someone travel to Lea?
- You are looking at often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is currently in the diary. One ring to 0303 330 1830 and you will hear what the SN area has free.
- Is the filter removed from the vehicle?
- On the on-site service, no: the filter is done in place. Neither job — a filter off, a filter back on — is not work we do.
- And if the light returns?
- Aftercare comes inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer heading back to Lea.
