What the car has been warning you
Last news, the light. The symptoms generally mount for some time before it arrives:
- less power, above all pulling uphill
- an engine whose revs will not rise as they should

- a stop/start that has silently bowed out
- smoke under the throttle, or a diesel smell inside
Any one of those, taken alone, is not conclusive. Next to the light beside them, the filter is a fair bet.
