Mobile DPF Cleaning around Lake, Wiltshire
Treating the DPF happens at the car, not at a workshop. The technician pulls up at your address across Lake and sets up. The diesel particulate filter is cleared on the vehicle, a DPF regeneration follows, and you end up with the filter you came with.
Nobody sets off until the price is fixed by the phone. The visit lasts typically around 2 hours and the clean starts from £299.
The light is on already and the vehicle is down on power — that is how we normally find people, and what this page deals with.
Your DPF light is on — what then?
The DPF is not always what is wrong, and that leads. A clean is not where a visit starts. A scan is — a number of faults appear as the same warning.
How the vehicle is driven in the meantime counts too.
- Amber light, car still driving fine — a long constant run can even now shift it by itself. Costs nothing, and worth trying before you call anything.
- That window has gone once the car has dropped into limp mode. Motoring will not help now.
- Diesel smell in the interior, or black smoke under the throttle — stop booking long drives and get it looked at.
What the motor has been showing you
Symptoms have usually been growing for some time before the light ever arrives. Last news, in other words:
- power dropping away, above all going uphill
- an engine whose revs will not rise as before
- the fuel use is down
- the stop/start without a word packing in
- diesel in the cabin, or smoke on the way up through the gears
Any one of those, taken by itself, is not evidence. It is a fair assumption the filter is full once the light is on as well.
Why diesel particulate filters clog round Lake
For a DPF, the poorest use is the type you find across a rural hamlet such as Lake. Look at a normal week: King's Gate Primary School and home again, The Drive at a halt before nine, a short hop to Aldi, a hop to Salisbury. Not much there runs long enough or gets hot enough to see through a regeneration. Unburnt soot that should clear builds up instead.
The map does not assist either. The M27 is under 25 miles from Lake and Salisbury is under 10 miles away, so unless something carries you out that way routinely, whole weeks slip past without the sustained run that could empty the filter by itself.
The moment a DPF regeneration can no longer happen
What limp mode amounts to is the car defending itself. The real difficulty is that a sustained drive works by starting a regeneration, and in limp mode the revs will not pull and power is held down.
Taking it up the motorway is the common advice, and it works as far as a line. The filter requires treatment rather than more driving once the vehicle has dropped into limp mode.
Where the vehicle stands is where the DPF is treated round Lake
The filter does not leave it. That is the detail most owners do not see coming: the job is done with the DPF yet bolted to the car, on your drive, in a work car park, wherever the motor can stand for a while.
First a scan. Real-time ECU data, the soot load as a proportion and as a mass, the sensor readings, the glow plugs, the associated hardware — all of it taken before anything is started.
Soot and ash that a regeneration by itself will never shift are lifted after that, by a cleaning fluid fed through the access port on that vehicle, which opens out inside the filter. Where the filter is badly blocked, allow for a second pass.
A regeneration comes next, clearing what the clean has loosened. That is a monitored drive out of Lake if you are present, or a static regeneration where the motor stands, with the live data read after.
A second scan proves the change, puts out the warning light and logs anything still outstanding. Both read-outs are sent over, so you keep the before and after figures to hand.
The problems a DPF clean cannot cure
Only one fault is cured by cleaning: the filter choked with ash and soot. It does little for:
- the wrong reading from a temperature or pressure sensor
- a failed EGR valve
- the AdBlue system going wrong
- faulty glow plugs or injectors, so not one regeneration ever starts
- the turbo putting oil into the filter
Which is why the diagnostic goes first. You are told before all work begins, not after you have paid, should it turns out to be one of those.
Two things more worth bearing in mind. Having the filter hollowed out is not a remedy — a vehicle without a functioning DPF will fail its MOT and driving it is an offence. And cleaning is sometimes looked up as DPF renewal: nothing is exchanged, your own filter is cleaned in place and sent back into use.
What DPF cleaning comes to around Lake
Cleaning opens from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it takes in the call-out, the booking, the scans and the advice.
The price is agreed on the phone, once we know the vehicle and what the filter is going to need. No flat rate could be truthful. Two separate things change it: what you run, and where you are — Lake itself, across at Wilsford, or further out within the SP postcode area.
If the scan counts treatment out, there is no charge to pay for it. You still pay that charge: someone came out, did the diagnostic and gave you the advice.
A 30-day warranty takes in aftercare on the clean, and that includes an engineer heading back out to Lake if the light comes back inside the window.
What a fantastic company to deal with, so professional from start to finish and big credit to Dave. Thank you once again and definitely I gonna use your service in the future.
Really helpful, told me why the filter had blocked in the first place and managed to clean it out fully.
Very nice young gentleman he did a good job and his advise was noted and issues that he picked up will be looked in to in the coming weeks.
Vehicles we clean, and where we get to round Lake
The filter is treated on the vehicle on all of them: cars, panel vans and light commercials, HGVs, plant and construction machinery, farm vehicles. Nothing is carried anywhere.
Technicians are along The Drive nearly every week, so Lake is hardly ever a detour, and the same run takes in Wilsford, Normanton and the villages out past Upper Woodford. Further out across Wiltshire is nonetheless worth a call — coverage is UK-wide, and it is the calendar rather than the distance that decides between today and tomorrow.

Common questions on DPF cleaning across Lake
- Does a long run shift it?
- If you catch it early enough, and the motor is not in limp mode, sometimes. A sustained run at motorway speed is what it takes — not fifteen minutes to Aldi and back.
- How long does the visit last?
- Reckon on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean extending that where the filter is severely blocked.
- The cost across Lake — what is it?
- Treatment opens from £299, and the call-out charge on top covers the visit, the scan and the advice. The vehicle and your address both move the figure, so we quote on the phone.
- Must I be present in person?
- The vehicle requires a place for two hours or so. Nobody expects you to be in it. Preferring to be there is no problem: the regeneration then goes out on the move, monitored.
- Travelling to Lake — how soon?
- It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is already in the diary. One phone call to 0303 330 1830 and you will know what the SP area has available.
- Will the filter be taken off?
- Not on the call-out service — it is cleaned where it is. That job — a filter off, a filter back on — is not a job we do.
- Suppose the light comes back?
- Included by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer heading back to Lake.
