Mobile DPF Cleaning in Lake, Dorset
With mobile DPF cleaning, we drive out to the vehicle. A technician arrives at your place over in Lake, treats the diesel particulate filter while it is attached to the motor, carries out a DPF regeneration, and you keep the filter you came with.
Nobody travels until the number is fixed by the phone. The visit takes typically around 2 hours and the clean opens from £299.
The light is already on and the car is low on power — that is how we normally find people, and precisely what this page is about.
DPF light on? What comes next
The unit is not necessarily what is wrong, and that comes first. Plenty of faults put the identical light on the same dash, which is why a visit opens with a scan rather than with treatment.
How the motor is driven in the meantime makes a difference too.
- Vehicle yet driving normally on an amber light — have a go at a long steady run first. It costs nothing at all and often sorts the filter without help.
- Once the car is in limp mode, a long run will not touch it. The window has gone.
- Diesel smell in the car, or black smoke under acceleration — stop arranging long drives and get it seen to.
The car has been warning you already
Symptoms have generally been mounting for some time before the light even appears. Belated news, in other words:
- tailing off on power, particularly uphill
- you find the revs never reach where they once went
- the fuel use is down
- a stop/start that has quietly given up
- the interior smelling of diesel, or smoke when you press on
Any one of those, taken by itself, is not proof. Next to the light alongside them, the filter is a fair assumption.
The explanation diesel particulate filters block around Lake
For a DPF, the least kind driving is the kind you find across a residential suburb such as Lake. Look at an ordinary week: Twin Sails Infant and Nursery School and back, Lake Road at a crawl before the hour, a short hop to Co-op Food, a run to Hamworthy. None of it there runs long enough or gets hot enough to see through a regeneration. The unburnt soot banks up rather than burning off.
The map does not help either. The M27 is under 25 miles from Lake and Salisbury is under 50 miles away, so unless something pulls you out that way routinely, whole weeks pass without the long steady run that could empty the filter on its own.
Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration gives out
It is self-protection: that is all limp mode amounts to. With output held down and the revs pinned, the regeneration the filter wants will not run at all. That matters, because setting off one is just what a long run does.
The common advice — get it up the motorway — is good, up until it is not. Once the motor is in limp mode you are past that point, and the filter requires cleaning rather than more driving.
Where the motor stands is where the DPF is done across Lake
Nothing comes off the vehicle. That surprises people. The DPF remains fitted where it is and the work is done around it, on a drive, in a works car park, any place it can stand for a few hours.
First a check. Real-time ECU data, the soot load as a percentage and as a mass, the sensor feeds, the glow plugs, the associated parts — all of it logged before a thing is cleaned.
Soot and ash that a regeneration alone will never budge are loosened second, by a cleaning fluid passed through the entry point on that vehicle, which opens out inside the filter. Where the filter is heavily blocked, allow for a second pass.
A regeneration follows, burning off what the clean has lifted. Stay with the vehicle and it turns into a monitored drive out of Lake. Leave it and the regeneration is done in place, with running data read once it is done.
Both reports come through by email, so the figures from either end are on record. The second diagnostic is what proves the change, resets the light and lists whatever is still open.
When a DPF clean is not the answer
Only one fault is fixed by cleaning: the filter blocked with ash and soot. It does nothing for:
- pressure or temperature sensors reporting a blockage that is not there
- a stuck-open EGR valve
- AdBlue system failures
- a regeneration that hardly ever starts, because of glow plugs or injectors
- turbo problems, with oil reaching the filter
Finding that out is the first check's job. You are warned before all work gets going, not after you have handed over, should it turns out to be one of those.
DPF renewal is what people type in, but no part is replaced: the filter you own is cleared where it sits and sent back into service. Nor is having it hollowed out a solution, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes unlawful. Two more things worth knowing.
The figure of DPF cleaning around Lake
Any visit carries a call-out charge — getting to you, taking the booking, doing the check and offering the advice. The clean itself starts from £299.
The price is fixed by the phone, once we know the vehicle and what the filter is apt to need. No flat rate could be truthful. Two separate things move it: what you run, and where you are — Lake itself, across at Hamworthy, or otherwise out across the BH postcode area.
Where the diagnostic says cleaning will not work, you are not asked to pay for treatment. You still pay that charge: someone travelled, did the diagnostic and passed on you the advice.
Aftercare is included by a 30-day warranty: should the light reappear within it, an engineer comes back to Lake.

Where we reach round Lake, and what we clean
Whatever it is — car, panel van, light commercial, HGV, plant, construction machinery, agricultural vehicle — the very same call-out service holds, and the filter never departs it.
The same run that keeps our engineers on Lake Road most weeks takes in Lake, Hamworthy, Rockley Sands and the spots beyond Poole. Coverage is UK-wide, so farther out across Dorset is nonetheless worth a phone call, and what decides between today and tomorrow is the schedule rather than the distance.
A line on Lake
Lake is a coastal suburban area in Dorset, situated near the shores of Poole Harbour, with nearby Hamworthy and Rockley Sands. Lake sits at a low elevation of around 5 metres, close to the sandy beaches and scenic coastline of the South West. Lake is characterized by its predominantly detached housing stock, reflecting its residential nature and appeal to families and commuters alike. Lake is also near Ham Hill, which offers scenic views of the surrounding area.
Things Lake drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Is a long drive enough by itself?
- Sometimes, if you spot it early enough and the car has not fallen into limp mode. That means motorway speed for a long spell, rather than a brief trip to Co-op Food.
- Roughly how long does it take?
- Count on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean lengthening that where the filter is heavily blocked.
- Price across Lake — what is it?
- The call-out charge takes in the visit, the diagnostic and the advice; the clean itself begins from £299. The vehicle and your address both move the price, so we price on the phone.
- Do I have to be present?
- Space for the motor to wait, for a couple of hours, is all that is required. Not you. Preferring to be there is fine: the regeneration then runs out on the move, monitored.
- How soon can someone come to Lake?
- It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is already in the diary. Phone 0303 330 1830 and you will know what is open across the BH area.
- Does the filter come off the motor?
- It is treated where it is, on the call-out service. We never lift filters off or bolt them back on, either way.
- And if the light returns?
- Included by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer heading back to Lake.
