Mobile DPF Cleaning in Laide, Highland
With on-site DPF cleaning, we drive out to the vehicle. No body shop, no filter coming off. A technician comes to your door across Laide, cleans the diesel particulate filter where it is, runs a DPF regeneration, and you keep the filter you arrived with.
Nobody leaves until the price is settled over the phone. The visit lasts typically around 2 hours and the clean starts from £299.
Written for the position most callers are in: the light already on, the car struggling for power, and the job still to arrange.
What to check when the DPF light comes on
First thing: it is not necessarily the unit. That light can come from a number of faults, not only one, so the visit starts with a scan and not with treatment.
The motoring you get in the meantime matters. That is the other thing.
- Worth a shot before you book anything: amber light, motor driving as normal, just one steady run, no charge.
- A drive will not reach it now — limp mode means that window has already shut.
- A diesel smell inside, or black smoke under acceleration, is the stage to stop planning long drives and ring.
The motor has been telling you already
The light is late news. By the time it appears, the symptoms have generally been growing for some time:
- dropping away on power, particularly uphill
- you find the revs never reach where they used to go
- fuel economy getting worse
- the stop/start quietly packing in
- smoke under acceleration, or a diesel smell in there
Any one of those, taken by itself, is not evidence. Alongside the light, it is a fair guess the filter is blocked.
The explanation diesel particulate filters block round Laide
The day-to-day driving that belongs to a coastal village like Laide is the least kind type for a DPF. Run through a normal week: the local primary school and home, Columba Court at a standstill before nine, a short hop to the local shops, a dash to the nearest station. None of it there runs long enough or runs hot enough to complete a regeneration. Instead of clearing, the soot load builds up.
Where you sit does not help either. The M90 is over 50 miles from Laide and Inverness is over 50 miles away, so unless something carries you out that way routinely, entire weeks go by without the sustained run that would scour the filter alone.
Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration stops
Limp mode is the motor protecting itself. With power capped and the revs kept low, the regeneration the filter requires cannot complete at all. That counts, because starting one is just what a sustained run does.
So the usual advice to run it up the motorway is sound advice, right until it stops being. In limp mode you are past that stage: cleaning is what will work, not more road work.
The vehicle stays where it is for call-out DPF cleaning round Laide
On your front, in a work car park, any place the vehicle can wait for a couple of hours: the job is done with the filter still fitted on, which is the detail most people do not anticipate.
The ECU is read first, giving soot load by percent and by weight, along with a check of sensors, glow plugs and connected parts, so nothing is touched while another fault is still open.
After that comes the clean itself: solution in through the motor's own access point, expanding inside the filter and lifting what a regeneration will not. Heavily loaded filters sometimes need a second pass.
What the clean has freed is then burned off by a regeneration. Ride along with the car and it is done as a monitored drive out of Laide. Drop it and the regeneration runs on the spot, with real-time data read once it is done.
Both read-outs come through by email, so the figures from either end are kept. The second scan is what verifies the change, puts out the light and lists whatever is still outstanding.
When a DPF clean is not the solution
Cleaning cures one thing: a filter choked with soot and ash. It does no good for:
- a pressure sensor showing a restriction that is not there
- an EGR valve jammed open
- AdBlue system failures
- a regeneration that never starts, because of glow plugs or injectors
- a turbo pushing oil through the filter
Finding that out is the first diagnostic's purpose. If one of those is the fault, you learn of it up front rather than once the money has left already.
DPF renewal is what people search for, but no part is swapped: the filter you have is cleared where it sits and put back to work. Nor is having it hollowed out a solution, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes illegal. Two more things worth bearing in mind.
The price of DPF cleaning around Laide
Cleaning starts from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it takes in the call-out, the booking, the scans and the advice.
Once we are told what you drive, and roughly what the filter will take, the number gets settled over phone. A single price for all would not be straight. Where you are matters as much as what you own: Laide itself, First Coast close by, or further out within the IV postcode area.
You are not billed for treatment that the diagnostic says will not work. You even so pay that charge: someone travelled, did the check and offered you the advice.
If the light comes back inside that window, an engineer travels back out to Laide — the work includes a 30-day warranty including aftercare.
The engineer who came (Daz) was very efficient explained the whole process to me. It was clear he had a great deal of experience on dpf problems and their resolutions. Job well done.
Excellent work by the technician (Dave) and his trainee. Great result and done so quickly. Very polite and knowledgeable gents. Would definitely recommend to anyone thinking of using this service. Thanks guys.
Thank you Igor for resolving the dpf issue with my vw cc on 15.7.24. Kudos to the back office team as well for answering my questions beforehand. Vroom, vroom!
Where we travel around Laide, and what we clean
Cars and estates, panel vans and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, construction and plant machinery, agricultural machinery — a single on-site service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is cleaned in place rather than carried anywhere.
Laide is seldom a special trip: our engineers are along Columba Court most weeks, and the same run covers First Coast, Second Coast and the spots out past Aultbea. Coverage reaches UK-wide, so farther out through Highland is nonetheless worth a ring, and what decides between today and tomorrow is the schedule rather than the distance.

Things Laide drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Does a long run shift it?
- If you spot it in time, and the car is not in limp mode, sometimes. A long run at motorway speed is what it needs — not five minutes or so to the local shops and back.
- The visit takes how long?
- It is typically around 2 hours. A heavily loaded filter can require a second clean, which extends that.
- How much does it run to across Laide?
- A clean opens from £299, and the call-out charge on top takes in the visit, the diagnostic and the advice. We quote on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both shift the number.
- Have I got to be present?
- The car requires a space for two hours or so. Nobody expects you to be in it. Wanting to be there is no problem: the regeneration then is done out on the move, monitored.
- Can someone travel to Laide soon?
- You are looking at often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is already in the schedule. Ring 0303 330 1830 and we will tell you what is free across the IV area.
- Will the filter be removed?
- On the mobile service, no: the filter is treated in place. Lifting a filter off or putting one back on come to anything work we do in either direction.
- What if the light reappears?
- An engineer comes back out to Laide — the 30-day warranty takes in aftercare.
