Mobile DPF Cleaning across Lagg and Argyll and Bute

The motor stays where it is — mobile DPF cleaning goes to it. The engineer arrives at your door in Lagg and gets to work. The diesel particulate filter is cleared still on the car, a DPF regeneration comes next, and you end up with the filter you started with.

Nobody travels until the price is fixed on the phone. The visit takes typically around 2 hours and the clean begins from £299.

The light is showing and the car is short of power — that is how we normally come across people, and what this page is about.

The DPF light is on. What now?

First thing: it is not automatically the filter. A diagnostic goes before the cleaning, because that same panel light has plenty of possible faults behind it.

The use you manage in the meantime matters. That is the next thing.

  • Worth a try before you ring anything: amber light, car driving as normal, just one steady run, no charge.
  • Once the car is in limp mode, a long run will not reach it. The window has shut.
  • Get it looked at rather than driving it — diesel in the cabin, or smoke on acceleration, has gone past the long-run stage.

Signs the motor has been sending you

The light is belated news. By the time it arrives, the symptoms have generally been growing for a while:

  • pulling uphill, the power falls off
  • you find the revs stop short of where they used to go
  • fuel economy going worse
  • stop/start quietly giving up
  • a diesel smell in the interior, or smoke under hard acceleration

On its own, none of that is conclusive. Next to the light, it is a fair assumption the filter is loaded.

Choked diesel particulate filters around Lagg, and the cause

Lagg is a coastal area, and the day-to-day driving that goes with one is the poorest kind for a DPF. A regeneration wants long enough and heat, and has none: not on the school run to the local primary school, not on The Long Road at the morning rush, not on a few minutes to the local shops, and not on the run to the nearest station. The unburnt soot builds up rather than burning away.

Unless you have a routine cause to get out to the M8, over 50 miles from Lagg, or over to Glasgow over 50 miles away, entire weeks pass without a sustained drive. Geography is against you.

Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration stops

The vehicle is defending itself, which is what limp mode means. With output held down and the revs held, the regeneration the filter needs cannot complete at all. That tells, because setting off one is precisely what a long run does.

The standard advice — run it up the motorway — is good, right until it is not. In limp mode you are the far side of that line: treatment is what will do it, not more miles.

DPF cleaning for a blocked filter across Lagg, Argyll and Bute

Where the car stands is where the DPF is treated in Lagg

Most drivers do not expect this bit: the filter stays put. The job happens with the DPF yet fixed to the vehicle — on your front, in a work car park, any place the car can sit for a while.

First a scan. Running ECU data, the soot load as a percentage and as a mass, the sensor readings, the glow plugs, the associated hardware — all of it read before any of it is cleaned.

Then the cleaning. A cleaning solution is fed in through the entry point on that car and opens out inside the filter, lifting the soot and ash a regeneration by itself will never shift. Severely loaded filters sometimes require a second pass.

Next, a regeneration drives off everything the clean lifted. That is a monitored drive out of Lagg if you are along, or a static regeneration where the vehicle stands, with the running data read afterwards.

Then a second scan, proving the change, putting out the warning light and noting anything still outstanding. Both reports are emailed over, so the before and after figures are recorded.

What a DPF clean will not touch

Only one fault is fixed by a clean: the filter choked with ash and soot. It does nothing for:

  • sensors, temperature or pressure, reporting a blockage that is not real
  • EGR valves that hang open
  • the AdBlue system playing up
  • a regeneration that never runs, because of glow plugs or injectors
  • turbo problems, with oil reaching the filter

That is what the first scan is for. If one of those proves the fault, you learn of it in advance rather than once the money has left altogether.

Lastly, two things. A vehicle with the filter gutted will fail its MOT, and driving it is illegal, so that is no solution. What gets looked up as DPF renewal exchanges nothing: your own filter is cleaned in place and goes back into service.

What DPF cleaning comes to across Lagg

Each visit carries a call-out charge — travelling to you, making the booking, doing the check and offering the advice. The clean itself starts from £299.

No single flat rate would be straight, so the figure is fixed on the phone once we are told the vehicle and what the filter is apt to need. A pair of things shift it: what you run, and where you are — Lagg itself, out at Tarbert, or further out within the PA postcode area.

A clean that will not do it is not a clean you pay for, and the check is what says so. You still pay that charge: someone came out, ran the check and gave you the advice.

A 30-day warranty includes aftercare on the clean, and that includes an engineer heading back out to Lagg if the light comes back inside the time.

What we clean, and how far we go round Lagg

One call-out service spans private cars, panel vans and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, plant machinery and farm vehicles, and on every one the filter is cleaned where it sits rather than moved anywhere.

The same run that puts technicians on The Long Road most weeks takes in Lagg, Tarbert, Ardmenish and the places beyond Tayvallich. It is the diary, not the distance, that picks whether it is one day or the next, and coverage runs UK-wide — so phone even from even further out across Argyll and Bute.

Lagg itself

Lagg is one of the smaller communities in the region, with a population of approximately 171 residents.

Usual questions on DPF cleaning in Lagg

Is a long drive enough by itself?
Sometimes, if you catch it in time and the motor has not slipped into limp mode. Fifteen minutes to the local shops and back will not manage it; motorway speed, sustained for some time, will.
Does the visit last long?
Bank on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean extending that where the filter is badly blocked.
In Lagg, what does it cost?
Beginning from £299, with a charge for travelling that takes in the diagnostic and advice on what to do next. The vehicle and your address both move the price, so we quote on the phone.
Must I be there in person?
The vehicle needs a spot for two hours or so. You need not be in it. The regeneration can be done as a supervised drive if you would prefer to be there.
How soon can someone travel to Lagg?
That hangs on the diary, but it is often same-day or next-day. Ring 0303 330 1830 what is free across the PA area.
The filter — does it come off the car?
It is cleaned where it stands, on the on-site service. Lifting a filter off or putting one back on amount to anything a job we do in either direction.
What if the light comes back?
An engineer heads back out to Lagg — the 30-day warranty covers aftercare.
