Knowle, Devon: Mobile DPF Cleaning
Mobile DPF cleaning goes to the car. An engineer comes at your place across Knowle, clears the diesel particulate filter while it is still on the motor, performs a DPF regeneration, and you keep the filter you started with.
The visit lasts typically around 2 hours, the clean opens from £299, and the figure is agreed by the phone before anyone leaves.
Most drivers find us with the light on already, and the vehicle low on power. That is the position this page is meant for.
DPF light on? What comes next
It could not be the DPF at all. That is the main thing. A check happens before all cleaning, because that same dashboard light has plenty of likely faults behind it.
The motoring you do in the meantime matters. That is the other thing.
- A long even run may still do it, provided the light is amber and the vehicle runs as normal. Costs nothing at all, so try that before calling.
- Motor already gone into limp mode — that window has shut. A drive will not reach it now.
- Get it seen to rather than driving it — diesel in the cabin, or smoke on hard acceleration, has gone well past the long-run stage.
What the vehicle has been showing you
The light is last news. By the time it shows, the symptoms have generally been growing for a while:
- power dropping away, particularly going uphill
- the revs no longer pull the way they used to
- worse fuel use
- a stop/start that has meekly packed in
- smoke under acceleration, or a diesel smell in the car
Alone, none of that is proof. The light alongside them suggests a loaded filter.
Why diesel particulate filters block near Knowle
For a DPF, the least kind driving is the type you meet across a coastal village such as Knowle. None of it lasts long enough or runs hot enough for the filter to finish a regeneration: the school run to St Peter's Church of England Primary School, Dalditch Lane barely moving at the morning rush, ten minutes to The Co-operative Food, the hop to Exmouth. What should burn away stays behind.
The M5 stands under 10 miles from Knowle, Exeter under 15 miles out, and unless something takes you out that way routinely, full weeks go by without the long unbroken run that empties a unit. Geography does not oblige.
The point a DPF regeneration can no longer happen
Limp mode is the vehicle defending itself. The whole problem is that a long drive works by starting a regeneration, and once in limp mode the revs will not rise and power is capped.
The usual advice — get it up the motorway — is good, right until it is not. Past that line — limp mode — more driving will not do it, and the filter requires cleaning.
Where the car stands is where the DPF is done across Knowle
The filter does not budge. That is the bit most drivers do not expect: the job happens with the DPF yet fixed to the car, on your drive, in a work car park, wherever the motor can sit for a couple of hours.
A diagnostic happens first — running data off the ECU, soot load by proportion and by weight, and a look over of the sensor feeds, glow plugs and connected parts, so other faults are eliminated before a thing is touched.
Then the clean. A cleaning solution is injected through the entry point on that motor and opens out inside the filter, freeing the soot and ash a regeneration by itself will never move. Badly blocked filters sometimes take a second pass.
What the clean has loosened is then driven off by a regeneration. If you are there, that is run as a monitored drive out of Knowle; if not, on the spot where the car waits, with the live data read once done.
Finally the scan runs again — the change confirmed, the light cleared, anything still outstanding logged. Both reports reach you by email, so the numbers are kept.
Where a clean is not the answer
A filter blocked with soot and ash is the one thing treatment cures. It will not help:
- a pressure or temperature sensor showing a restriction that is not there
- the EGR valve stuck open
- an AdBlue system fault
- failed glow plugs or injectors, so no regeneration ever starts
- a turbo pushing oil through the filter
The first scan is there for exactly that. If one of those is the fault, you find out about it up front rather than once the money has changed hands already.
DPF renewal is what people search for, but no part is exchanged: the filter you have is treated where it sits and returned to use. Nor is having it cut out a solution, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes illegal. Two more things worth knowing.
Prices for DPF cleaning across Knowle
A call-out charge holds whatever happens, and takes in the visit, the booking fee, the check and the advice given. Treatment itself begins from £299.
Quoting a flat rate would not be straight. We agree it over phone, once the vehicle and its likely needs are known. The place you are matters as much as what you own: Knowle itself, Kersbrook nearby, or further out within the EX postcode area.
If the diagnostic counts a clean out, there is no charge to pay for it. You even so pay that charge: someone turned up, did the diagnostic and offered you the advice.
Aftercare is taken in by a 30-day warranty: should the light reappear within it, an engineer returns to Knowle.
Made a phone call and next day dpf fixer was at my home to work on the car, fast efficient and great service.
Professional company. Chris explained what he would do, then gave me a detailed printed report afterwards. Communication was good throughout. Very pleased.
My father in law used this service. He was very impressed with the whole process and Kieran was very knowledgeable and explained everything thoroughly. Highly recommend.
The vehicles we clean and the area we reach near Knowle
The one on-site service covers cars and estates, panel vans and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, plant and construction machinery and farm vehicles, and on every one the filter is done in place rather than moved anywhere.
Week in week out there is by then someone on Dalditch Lane, so Knowle seldom means a special trip, and Kersbrook, East Budleigh and the spots past Budleigh Salterton come with it. It is the calendar, not the distance, that picks whether it is this day or the next, and coverage runs UK-wide — so phone still from even further out around Devon.

Things Knowle drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Will a long drive shift it?
- If you catch it in time, and the motor is not in limp mode, sometimes. A steady run at motorway speed is what it takes — not fifteen minutes or so to The Co-operative Food and back.
- Does the visit run long?
- It is typically around 2 hours. A heavily blocked filter can take a second clean, which lengthens that.
- What does it come to across Knowle?
- The call-out charge pays for the visit, the diagnostic and the advice; the clean itself begins from £299. Both the vehicle and where you are shift it, which is why quoting happens by phone.
- Is it needed for me to be present?
- Space for the motor to sit, for a couple of hours, is all that is required. Not you. Come along if you like, and the regeneration becomes a monitored drive.
- Can someone travel to Knowle soon?
- Depending on the calendar, often same-day or next-day is usual. Ring 0303 330 1830 what is free across the EX area.
- Does the filter leave the motor?
- It is done where it stands, on the mobile service. Getting a filter off or putting one back on amount to anything something we do whichever way.
- What if the light returns?
- Taken in by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer coming back to Knowle.
