Signs the motor has been showing you
Symptoms have generally been mounting for a while before the light ever appears. Belated news, in other words:
- pulling uphill, the power tails off
- the revs no longer pull the way they used to
- worse fuel use
- stop/start quietly giving up
- diesel in the car, or smoke on the way up through the gears
Any one of those, taken singly, is not conclusive. Alongside the light alongside them, the filter is a fair guess.

For a DPF, the poorest driving is the type you find across a rural village such as Knock.
