By the time the light shows, things have generally been slipping for weeks. It is last news:
- less power, especially pulling uphill
- the revs no longer pull the way they used to
- fuel use that is worse than it used to be
- without a word, the stop/start bows out
- a diesel smell in the interior, or smoke under acceleration
Any one of those, taken alone, is not proof. The light beside them points at a blocked filter.
The reason diesel particulate filters choke near Kingston
