Mobile DPF Cleaning around Kilve, Somerset
The car sits put — call-out DPF cleaning comes to it. The engineer pulls up at your door in Kilve and gets to work. The diesel particulate filter is cleaned on the car, a DPF regeneration follows, and you keep the filter you started with.
The visit takes typically around 2 hours, the clean opens from £299, and the figure is agreed on the phone before anyone sets off.
Written for the state most owners are in: the light showing, the motor struggling for power, and the visit still to book.
Your DPF light is showing — what then?
The DPF is not always what is wrong, and that comes first. A scan comes before any work, because that same dash light has a number of candidate faults behind it.
How the motor is driven in the meantime makes a difference too.
- Car yet driving fine on an amber light — try a long steady run first. It costs nothing and frequently clears the filter without a visit.
- Vehicle already dropped into limp mode — that window has shut. A drive will not shift it now.
- Diesel smell in the interior, or black smoke under hard acceleration — stop booking long drives and get it looked at.
What the motor has been telling you
By the time the light arrives, things have normally been deteriorating for a while. It is belated news:
- falling off on power, particularly uphill
- revs that will not rise the way they used to
- the fuel consumption is worse
- a stop/start that has quietly packed in
- smoke under hard acceleration, or a diesel smell in the car
That is not evidence on its own. It is a fair bet the filter is full once the light is showing too.
Choked diesel particulate filters near Kilve, and the cause
For a DPF, the worst motoring is the type you get around a coastal village such as Kilve. Nothing of it runs long enough or is hot enough for the filter to finish a regeneration: the school run to Stogursey Church of England Primary School, Millands Lane standing at the morning rush, five minutes to Spar, the hop to Bridgwater. The soot that should burn away builds up instead.
Neither is far from Kilve: under 15 miles to the M5, under 25 miles to Cardiff. Neither is on the way to anywhere most weeks, though, so the journey that would scour a filter hardly ever gets made.
Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration gives out
It is self-defence: that is all limp mode means. The real difficulty is that a long drive works by setting off a regeneration, and under limp mode the revs will not climb and power is limited.
Running it up the motorway is the usual advice, and it stands up to a line. The filter requires treatment rather than road work once the car has slipped into limp mode.
DPF cleaning at the motor across Kilve
Nothing is taken from the car. That throws people. The DPF remains bolted where it is and the work happens around it, on a drive, in a works car park, wherever it can wait for a couple of hours.
First a check. Real-time ECU data, the soot load as a percent and as a mass, the sensor feeds, the glow plugs, the connected components — all of it logged before a thing is started.
Soot and ash that a regeneration by itself will never budge are freed after that, by a cleaning fluid put through the access point on that vehicle, which expands inside the filter. Sometimes a filter is blocked enough to take doing twice.
A regeneration follows, clearing what the clean has loosened. Either it is done as a monitored drive out of Kilve, with you there, or it runs where the motor waits and the real-time data is verified afterwards.
Both reports come through by email, so the figures from either end are on record. The second diagnostic is what verifies the change, puts out the light and logs whatever is still open.
When a DPF clean is not the solution
A filter clogged with soot and ash is the one thing cleaning answers. It will not touch:
- the wrong figure from a pressure or temperature sensor
- a failed EGR valve
- AdBlue system problems
- faulty glow plugs or injectors, so never a regeneration ever completes
- the turbo putting oil into the filter
Which is why the diagnostic goes first. Where one of those is the fault, you hear about it at the outset rather than once the money has changed hands for good.
Lastly, two things. A vehicle with the filter gutted fails its MOT, and driving it is against the law, so that is no solution. What gets typed in as DPF renewal exchanges nothing: your filter is cleared in place and goes back into work.
The figure for DPF cleaning in Kilve
Any visit carries a call-out charge — travelling to you, making the booking, running the check and giving the advice. The clean itself opens from £299.
Naming a flat rate would not be straight. We settle it over phone, once the car and its likely needs are established. What you drive and where you are both change it: Kilve itself, out at Towns End, or farther out in the TA postcode area.
If the check writes cleaning out, there is nothing to pay for it. The call-out charge still holds, because the visit, the diagnostic and the advice have taken place.
The clean includes a 30-day warranty covering aftercare, including an engineer heading back out to Kilve if the light returns inside that window.
Really pleased with the service which cleared the DPF block and warning light on dash of my Landrover. Saved me £2500!
Your engineer Attila was a delight to meet, friendly and courteous. He explained every step and showed me all relevant information during the procedure. Highly recommended.
Professional company. Chris explained what he would do, then gave me a detailed printed report afterwards. Communication was good throughout. Very pleased.
What we clean, and how far we reach near Kilve
The filter is cleaned on the vehicle on all of them: private cars, panel vans and light commercials, HGVs, plant and construction machinery, agricultural vehicles. Nothing is taken anywhere.
Kilve is rarely a special trip: technicians are along Millands Lane nearly every week, and the same run takes in Towns End, Holford and the spots out past East Quantoxhead. It is the schedule, not the distance, that decides whether it is today or tomorrow, and coverage runs UK-wide — so ring even from farther out through Somerset.

Frequent questions on DPF cleaning in Kilve
- Does a long run shift it?
- Soon enough, and with the car out of limp mode, yes — sometimes. It wants a long run at motorway speed, not fifteen minutes flat to Spar and back.
- How long does the visit take?
- It is typically around 2 hours. A badly blocked filter can require a second clean, which adds to that.
- How much does it come to in Kilve?
- Cleaning starts from £299, and the call-out charge on top pays for the visit, the scan and the advice. The vehicle and your address both move the figure, so we quote on the phone.
- Do I have to be present?
- A spot for the car to wait, for a couple of hours, is all that is wanted. Not you. If you would sooner come along, the regeneration can be done as a watched drive instead.
- When can someone travel to Kilve?
- You are looking at often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is currently in the schedule. Ring 0303 330 1830 what is free across the TA area.
- Will the filter be taken off?
- On the mobile service, no: the filter is cleaned in place. We never lift filters off or put them back on, either way.
- The light reappears — then what?
- An engineer travels back out to Kilve — the 30-day warranty includes aftercare.
