Killead, County Antrim: Mobile DPF Cleaning
Cleaning the DPF happens at the motor, not at a garage. No workshop, no filter coming off. A technician comes to your place across Killead, clears the diesel particulate filter as it sits, runs a DPF regeneration, and you end up with the filter you started with.
Allow for the visit taking typically around 2 hours. The clean begins from £299, agreed by the phone before anyone sets off.
If the light is on already and the vehicle is low on power, this page is yours. That is how most owners get to us.
The DPF light is on. What next?
First thing: it is not automatically the filter. Cleaning is not where a visit opens. A check is — several faults register as the same light.
How the vehicle is handled in the meantime makes a difference too.
- A long steady run may yet do it, provided the light is amber and the vehicle goes fine. Costs zero, so try that before calling.
- Once the vehicle is in limp mode, a long run will not reach it. The window has closed.
- A diesel smell in the car, or black smoke under acceleration, is the moment to stop booking long drives and book it in.
The motor has been warning you already
Late news, the light. The symptoms tend to mount for weeks before it arrives:
- falling off on power, particularly uphill
- revs that will not rise the way they always did
- worse fuel economy
- stop/start without a word packing in
- diesel in the interior, or smoke on the way up through the box
On its own, none of that is proof. It is a fair bet the filter is full once the light is there too.
Why diesel particulate filters block round Killead
The driving that belongs to a small village like Killead is the least kind kind for a DPF. A regeneration wants time and heat, and has neither: not on the school run to the local primary school, not on Heugh Road at half past eight, not on a few minutes to the local shops, and not on the dash to the nearest station. Instead of burning away, the soot load banks up.
Geography does not oblige either. The M77 is over 50 miles from Killead and Belfast is under 15 miles away, so unless something takes you out that way often, weeks pass without the sustained run that might clear the filter by itself.
Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration gives out
It is self-protection: that is all limp mode is. The entire catch is that a proper drive works by triggering a regeneration, and once in limp mode the revs will not rise and power is capped.
Taking it up the motorway is the usual advice, and it holds up to a line. In limp mode you are past that line: cleaning is what will work, not more miles.
DPF cleaning at the vehicle in Killead
Nothing comes off the motor. That catches out people. The DPF sits fixed where it is and the work happens around it, on a forecourt, in a works car park, any place it can stand for two hours or so.
The ECU is read first, reporting soot load by proportion and by actual weight, along with a look over of sensor feeds, glow plugs and connected parts, so nothing is started while another fault is still possible.
A cleaning solution after that goes in through the access point on that car, opening out inside the filter to lift soot and ash a regeneration alone will never budge. Sometimes a filter is clogged enough to take doing twice.
Next, a regeneration drives off everything the clean lifted. Stay with the vehicle and it turns into a monitored drive out of Killead. Leave it and the regeneration is done statically, with running data checked once it is done.
A second check verifies the change, clears the warning light and logs anything still open. Both sets of figures are emailed over, so you have the before and after figures on record.
When a DPF clean is not the fix
A filter clogged with soot and ash is the one thing treatment answers. It will not reach:
- the wrong reading from a pressure or temperature sensor
- an EGR valve jammed open
- an AdBlue system problem
- glow plugs or injectors preventing the regeneration completing whatsoever
- oil passing through the filter from a worn turbo
That is what the first diagnostic is for. Turning out to be one of them means finding out it before any work gets going, not after paying a penny.
Lastly, two things. A vehicle with the filter cut out will fail its MOT, and driving it is illegal, so that is no remedy. What gets searched for as DPF renewal replaces nothing: your filter is treated in place and goes back into work.
DPF cleaning costs across Killead
Cleaning opens from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it takes in the call-out, the booking, the checks and the advice.
Once we know what you drive, and roughly what the filter will need, the figure gets agreed over phone. A single price for everyone would not be truthful. What you own and where you are both move it: Killead itself, across at Aldergrove, or otherwise out in the BT postcode area.
If the check counts a clean out, there is no charge to pay for it. The call-out charge nonetheless applies, because the visit, the check and the advice have happened.
Aftercare is taken in by a 30-day warranty: should the light come back within it, an engineer comes back to Killead.
Great communication from the fixer, let me know in advance of his eta and work was done efficiently he then explained what the diagnostics meant, really friendly and helpful, great service.
Excellent work by the technician (Dave) and his trainee. Great result and done so quickly. Very polite and knowledgeable gents. Would definitely recommend to anyone thinking of using this service. Thanks guys.
Excellent service engineer was so help full and couldn't have done any more than he did id recommend them without any hesitation.
What we clean, and how far we travel around Killead
Whatever it is — estate, van, light commercial, HGV, plant, construction machinery, farm vehicle — the one call-out service holds, and the filter never departs it.
Engineers are along Heugh Road week in week out, so Killead is rarely a detour, and the same run takes in Aldergrove, Antrim and the places out past Randalstown. Further out around County Antrim is nonetheless worth a call — coverage runs UK-wide, and it is the calendar rather than the distance that settles between this day and the next.

Usual questions on DPF cleaning in Killead
- Is a long drive enough on its own?
- If you get it in time, and the car is not in limp mode, sometimes. Fifteen minutes to the local shops and back will not manage it; motorway speed, held for a while, will.
- The visit takes how long?
- Expect typically around 2 hours — heavily clogged filters sometimes require a second pass, which adds to it.
- What does it cost around Killead?
- Treatment opens from £299, and the call-out charge on top pays for the visit, the scan and the advice. Both the vehicle and where you are change it, which is why settling it happens by phone.
- Do I have to be present?
- The vehicle requires a spot for two hours or so. Nobody expects you to be in it. The regeneration can be done as a monitored drive if you would prefer to ride along.
- Getting to Killead — how soon?
- That depends on the diary, but it is often same-day or next-day. Ring 0303 330 1830 what is free across the BT area.
- The filter — does it come away from the car?
- It is cleaned where it is, on the call-out service. That job — a filter off, a filter back on — is not something we do.
- Suppose the light returns?
- The 30-day warranty covers aftercare, including an engineer heading back to Killead.
