Key Street, Kent: Mobile DPF Cleaning

With on-site DPF cleaning, we drive out to the motor. The technician arrives at your place across Key Street and sets up. The diesel particulate filter is treated still on the vehicle, a DPF regeneration follows, and you keep the filter you started with.

Reckon on the visit taking typically around 2 hours. The clean begins from £299, settled by the phone before anyone sets off.

Written for the situation most drivers are in: the light already on, the motor short for power, and the clean still to book.

The DPF light is on. What now?

First thing: it is not always the DPF. Cleaning is not where a visit opens. A check is — a number of faults show up as the same warning.

The use you get in the meantime matters. That is the other thing.

  • Worth a shot before you ring anything: amber light, motor driving normally, just one constant run, no charge.
  • Motor already fallen into limp mode — that window has closed. A drive will not reach it now.
  • A diesel smell in there, or black smoke under the throttle, is the stage to stop booking long drives and book it in.

Before the light, what the car was telling you

Symptoms have generally been building for weeks before the light so much as appears. Last news, in other words:

  • dropping away on power, above all uphill
  • an engine whose revs will not pull as before
  • worse fuel economy
  • without a word, the stop/start packs in
  • the interior reeking of diesel, or smoke when you pull away

None of that is conclusive alone. The light with them indicates a full filter.

What clogs diesel particulate filters near Key Street

Being a residential suburb, Key Street produces exactly the use a DPF manages worst. Nothing of it goes on long enough or gets hot enough for the filter to complete a regeneration: the school run to Borden Church of England Primary School, Dental Close standing at half past eight, a few minutes to Welcome Sittingbourne, the dash to Sittingbourne. The soot that should burn away collects instead.

Where you sit does not oblige either. The M2 is under 3 miles from Key Street and Southend-on-Sea is under 15 miles away, so unless something takes you out that way regularly, entire weeks slip past without the long unbroken run that would clear the filter alone.

Why limp mode stops a DPF regeneration

What limp mode amounts to is the vehicle protecting itself. Power is held down, the revs will not rise, and the regeneration the filter needs can never complete — which is the whole catch, because a long drive works by starting that regeneration.

The standard advice — take it up the motorway — is good, until it is not. The filter needs treatment rather than road work once the motor has dropped into limp mode.

Where the motor stands is where the DPF is cleaned round Key Street

The filter does not leave it. That is the detail most people do not see coming: the job happens with the DPF even now fitted to the vehicle, on your drive, in a work car park, anywhere the motor can stand for a couple of hours.

First a scan. Live ECU data, the soot load as a proportion and as a mass, the sensor readings, the glow plugs, the connected components — all of it logged before any of it is touched.

Soot and ash that a regeneration alone will never shift are loosened next, by a cleaning solution put through the access port on that motor, which spreads inside the filter. A second pass is sometimes needed on badly blocked filters.

What the clean has lifted is then cleared by a regeneration. Ride along with the motor and it becomes a monitored drive out of Key Street. Leave it and the regeneration is done statically, with live data read once it is done.

Finally the scan runs again — the change confirmed, the light cleared, anything still showing noted. Both reports come to you by email, so the numbers are on record.

What a DPF clean will not cure

One thing is what a clean answers — a filter blocked with soot and ash. It does little for:

  • sensors, temperature or pressure, reporting a restriction that is not real
  • EGR valves that hang open
  • the AdBlue system playing up
  • injectors or glow plugs that stop a regeneration running whatsoever
  • the turbo passing oil into the filter

The first scan is there for just that. When it turns out to be one of those, you are let know before any work starts rather than after you have settled up anything.

Lastly, two things. A vehicle with the filter cut out fails its MOT, and driving it is illegal, so that is no solution. What gets looked up as DPF renewal swaps nothing: your existing filter is cleaned in place and goes back into service.

What DPF cleaning runs to in Key Street

The clean starts from £299. A call-out charge covers every visit, and pays for the call-out itself, the booking, the scan and the advice that follows.

Naming a flat rate would not be honest. We settle it by phone, once the car and its probable needs are clear. Where you are tells as much as what you own: Key Street itself, Grove Park close by, or further out within the ME postcode area.

Where the check says treatment will not do it, you are not billed for cleaning. What even so applies is the call-out charge, since the visit was made, the scan was done and the advice was passed on.

A 30-day warranty includes aftercare on the clean, and that includes an engineer travelling back out to Key Street if the light reappears inside the time.

Excellent service. Arrived on time and happily let my husband watch the process. Very helpful and explained everything. Not cheap but the difference in the car is amazing. Would recommend.

Professional service. Sorted the problem out left me a breakdown of potential problems on the vehicle so pre-emptying future issues. Thank you.

Phillip M.

Highly recommend DPF fixer they came out evaluated and confirmed we didn't need a clean and identified the real issue. Very professional and did not carry out any unnecessary work brilliant service.

Where we reach round Key Street, and what we clean

Cars, vans of any size and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, plant and construction machinery, agricultural vehicles — the one on-site service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is done where it sits rather than carried anywhere.

Week in week out there is usually someone on Dental Close, so Key Street hardly ever means a journey of its own, and Grove Park, Chestnut Street and the spots past Bobbing follow. Phone anyway from even further out through Kent. Coverage reaches UK-wide, and the slot you are given comes down to the diary rather than how far away you are.

What Key Street drivers wonder about DPF cleaning

Can I simply take it for a long drive?
If you get it early, and the car is not in limp mode, sometimes. A sustained run at motorway speed is what it wants — not fifteen minutes to Welcome Sittingbourne and back.
The visit runs how long?
That is typically around 2 hours, though a heavily loaded filter can require cleaning twice, which adds time.
The cost across Key Street — what is it?
Starting from £299, with a charge for the call-out that takes in the diagnostic and advice on what to do next. The vehicle and your address both change the number, so we quote on the phone.
Do I have to be around?
You do not need to stand with it — the car only needs space to sit for a couple of hours. Travel along if you prefer, and the regeneration turns into a monitored drive.
How soon can someone come to Key Street?
That depends on the calendar, but it is often same-day or next-day. One phone call to 0303 330 1830 and you will learn what the ME area has free.
The filter — does it leave the vehicle?
On the mobile service, no: the filter is done in place. Nor does lifting a filter off nor fitting one back on is work we do.
And if the light comes back?
An engineer heads back out to Key Street — the 30-day warranty covers aftercare.
