Mobile DPF Cleaning for Kew, Greater London
Treating the DPF happens at the motor, not at a garage. No body shop, no filter leaving. An engineer comes to your door over in Kew, treats the diesel particulate filter where it is, runs a DPF regeneration, and you end up with the filter you started with.
Reckon on the visit taking typically around 2 hours. The clean opens from £299, fixed on the phone before anyone leaves.
If the light is already on and the vehicle is short of power, this page is for you. That is how most people get to us.
Your DPF light is lit — what next?
Not the DPF, automatically. Main thing to say. A number of faults put the same light on the same panel, which is why a visit begins with a diagnostic rather than with cleaning.
Second thing: how you drive it between now and then makes a difference.
- Worth a go before you call anything: amber light, motor driving as normal, just one steady run, no outlay.
- That window has closed once the car has fallen into limp mode. A drive will not do it now.
- Get it checked rather than driving it — diesel in the interior, or smoke on acceleration, has gone past the long-run stage.
What the motor has been showing you
By the time the light shows, things have usually been slipping for a while. It is late news:
- falling off on power, above all uphill
- you notice the revs fall short of where they once went
- the fuel economy is worse
- without a word, the stop/start packs in
- the cabin reeking of diesel, or smoke when you accelerate
By itself, none of that is evidence. Next to the light, it is a fair assumption the filter is full.
Blocked diesel particulate filters near Kew, and the reason
Being a residential suburb, Kew generates just the motoring a DPF manages worst. None of it runs long enough or gets hot enough for the filter to see through a regeneration: the school run to The King's Church of England Primary School, Lichfield Road standing at the morning rush, five minutes to Orion, the dash to Kew Gardens. The soot banks up rather than clearing.
Neither is distant from Kew: under a mile to the M4, under 10 miles to Westminster. Neither is on the way to much most weeks, though, so the run that would scour a filter never happens.
DPF regeneration, and the stage limp mode ends it
Limp mode is the car defending itself. The real problem is that a long drive works by setting off a regeneration, and under limp mode the revs will not rise and power is limited.
The usual advice — get it up the motorway — is sound, right until it is not. In limp mode you are beyond that stage: cleaning is what will help, not more miles.
The motor stays in place for on-site DPF cleaning in Kew
Nothing is taken from the motor. That surprises people. The DPF sits fitted where it is and the work goes on around it, on a drive, in a works car park, any place it can wait for two hours or so.
First a scan. Running ECU data, the soot load as a percentage and as a figure, the sensor readings, the glow plugs, the associated hardware — all of it logged before any of it is cleaned.
A cleaning fluid after that is injected through the entry point on that motor, spreading inside the filter to free soot and ash a regeneration by itself will never budge. A second pass is sometimes needed on heavily blocked filters.
What the clean has loosened is then cleared by a regeneration. Stay with the motor and it turns into a monitored drive out of Kew. Drop it and the regeneration goes in place, with live data verified once it is done.
Finally the check runs again — the change verified, the light cleared, anything still outstanding written down. Both sets of figures come to you by email, so the numbers are on record.
Where treatment is not the fix
Cleaning fixes one thing: a filter choked with soot and ash. It does no good for:
- the wrong signal from a temperature sensor
- an EGR valve jammed open
- AdBlue system problems
- glow plugs or injectors stopping the regeneration completing whatsoever
- a turbo pushing oil through the filter
That is what the first scan is for. You are told before all work begins, not after you have handed over, should it turns out to be one of those.
Cutting the filter out is not a fix: without a serviceable DPF a vehicle cannot pass its MOT, and driving it is against the law. DPF renewal is the term people type in, though nothing is replaced — your own filter is cleaned in place and returned into use. Two more worth knowing.
What DPF cleaning costs in Kew
The cleaning starts from £299. A call-out charge applies to every visit, and covers the call-out itself, the booking, the check and the advice that goes with it.
The price is settled by the phone, once we have the vehicle and what the filter is likely to need. No flat rate could be straight. Two separate things move it: what you run, and where you are — Kew itself, out at North Sheen, or farther out within the TW postcode area.
A clean that will not work is not treatment you pay for, and the scan is what says so. What even so holds is the call-out charge, since the visit took place, the diagnostic was run and the advice was offered.
The job comes with a 30-day warranty including aftercare, including an engineer travelling back out to Kew if the light reappears inside that window.
Nic turned up on time and did a thorough clean of the DPF, he was very courteous and explained everything in detail.
Highly recommend DPF fixer they came out evaluated and confirmed we didn't need a clean and identified the real issue. Very professional and did not carry out any unnecessary work brilliant service.
The mechanic technician (Andras) who came for the DPF cleaning was very experienced and highly skilled in his work.
The vehicles we clean and the area we cover round Kew
The filter is done in place on all of them: cars, vans of any size and light commercials, HGVs, construction and plant machinery, agricultural machinery. Nothing is moved anywhere.
Technicians are along Lichfield Road most weeks, so Kew is hardly ever a journey of its own, and the same run takes in North Sheen, Grove Park and the places out past East Molesey. Ring anyway from farther out through Greater London. Coverage runs UK-wide, and the date you get depends on the calendar rather than how far away you are.
The ground around Kew
Kew is a suburban area in southwest London, situated near the River Thames and close to North Sheen and Strand on the Green. Kew sits at a low elevation of around 10 metres above sea level, and its proximity to Westminster, just 7.1 miles away, makes it a popular residential location. Kew is predominantly composed of flat dwellings, which house its approximate population of 8978 residents.
Questions Kew drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Is a long drive enough on its own?
- Quickly enough, and with the vehicle out of limp mode, yes — sometimes. A sustained run at motorway speed is what it takes — not fifteen minutes or so to Orion and back.
- How long does the visit take?
- That is typically around 2 hours, though a badly loaded filter can take cleaning twice, which adds time.
- How much does it come to across Kew?
- Starting from £299, with a charge for the call-out that covers the scan and advice on what to do next. Settling it is done by phone, since what you run and where you are both move the figure.
- Do I have to be there?
- The car needs a space for two hours or so. You do not need to be in it. If you would rather come along, the regeneration can be run as a supervised drive instead.
- Coming to Kew — how soon?
- That hangs on the diary, but it is often same-day or next-day. One phone call to 0303 330 1830 and you will know what the TW area has open.
- Will the filter be lifted off?
- It is treated where it is, on the call-out service. That work — a filter off, a filter back on — is not a job we do.
- What if the light comes back?
- The 30-day warranty takes in aftercare, including an engineer heading back to Kew.
