Keswick, Norfolk: Mobile DPF Cleaning
The vehicle stays where it is — mobile DPF cleaning comes to it. No workshop, no filter coming off. A fitter drives out to your door across Keswick, treats the diesel particulate filter where it is, runs a DPF regeneration, and you keep the filter you arrived with.
Nobody sets off until the number is settled on the phone. The visit takes typically around 2 hours and the clean starts from £299.
The light is on already and the motor is low on power — that is how we usually meet people, and precisely what this page covers.
What to try when the DPF light is on
First thing: it is not automatically the filter. A clean is not where a visit begins. A check is — several faults appear as the same light.
The motoring you do in the meantime tells. That is the next thing.
- Worth a try before you book anything: amber light, motor driving fine, just one constant run, no charge.
- A drive will not reach it now — limp mode means that window has already gone.
- Stop arranging long drives and get it checked if the cabin stinks of diesel or there is black smoke when you press on.
The motor has been warning you already
Symptoms have usually been building for some time before the light ever appears. Belated news, in other words:
- less power, particularly pulling uphill
- you see the revs fall short of where they used to go
- worse fuel use
- silently, the stop/start packs in
- diesel in the car, or smoke on the way up through the gearbox
That is not evidence on its own. It is a fair guess the filter is blocked once the light is on as well.
Why diesel particulate filters block round Keswick
Keswick is a coastal village, and the motoring that belongs to one is the worst kind for a DPF. A regeneration wants long enough and heat, and has neither: not on the school run to Bacton Primary School, not on Keswick Road at half eight, not on five minutes to Walcott Stores, and not on the hop to North Walsham. What should clear stays behind.
Neither is a long way from Keswick: over 50 miles to the M11, under 25 miles to Norwich. Neither is on the way to anywhere most weeks, though, so the drive that would empty a filter simply never gets made.
DPF regeneration, and the moment limp mode kills it
The vehicle is looking after itself, which is what limp mode is. With pulling power capped and the revs pinned, the regeneration the filter wants cannot happen at all. That tells, because starting one is exactly what a sustained run does.
Good advice, that motorway run — up until the moment it is not. Once the motor is in limp mode you are beyond that stage, and the filter needs cleaning rather than driving.
Where the motor stands is where the DPF is treated in Keswick
On your drive, in a work car park, wherever the motor can stand for a couple of hours: the job happens with the filter even now bolted on, which is the bit most drivers do not anticipate.
The ECU is taken first, reporting soot load by proportion and by mass, along with a review of sensor readings, glow plugs and associated parts, so nothing is cleaned while another fault is still possible.
A cleaning fluid after that is injected through the access point on that vehicle, spreading inside the filter to free soot and ash a regeneration alone will never move. Badly blocked filters sometimes take a second pass.
A regeneration follows, burning off what the clean has freed. That is a monitored drive out of Keswick if you are present, or a static regeneration where the vehicle stands, with the real-time data checked afterwards.
A second diagnostic proves the change, clears the warning light and lists anything still open. Both sets of figures are sent over, so you end up with the before and after figures to hand.
Where cleaning is not the fix
Only one fault is fixed by treatment: the filter choked with ash and soot. It does no good for:
- a temperature or pressure sensor flagging a restriction that is not there
- a failed EGR valve
- the AdBlue system going wrong
- glow plugs or injectors preventing the regeneration running whatsoever
- turbo trouble, with oil reaching the filter
Finding that out is the first scan's job. Turning out to be one of them means hearing it before any work begins, not after paying a penny.
A couple more worth bearing in mind. Getting the filter cut out is not a solution — a vehicle without a serviceable DPF fails its MOT and driving it is against the law. And cleaning is sometimes searched for as DPF renewal: nothing is replaced, your own filter is cleared in place and sent back into use.
DPF cleaning charges around Keswick
Each visit takes a call-out charge — getting to you, taking the booking, running the check and passing on the advice. The clean itself opens from £299.
Once we know what you run, and roughly what the filter will need, the number gets agreed on the phone. A single price for every job would not be truthful. Where you are tells as much as what you run: Keswick itself, Broomholm next door, or further out in the NR postcode area.
Cleaning that will not do it is not cleaning you pay for, and the scan is what says so. What even so applies is the call-out charge, since the visit was made, the check was done and the advice was given.
If the light reappears inside that period, an engineer heads back out to Keswick — the clean includes a 30-day warranty including aftercare.
Andras was very helpful after clean discovered pressure sensor was faulty when replaced came back to clear engine management light.
Managed to clean the DPF in my Range Rover Evoque whilst in limp mode and get it back on the road in 2 hours. Ashley was knowledgeable and did a cracking job.

Where we travel near Keswick, and what we clean
Whatever it is — estate, panel van, light commercial, HGV, plant, construction machinery, agricultural vehicle — the very same call-out service holds, and the filter never quits it.
The same round that has technicians on Keswick Road most weeks covers Keswick, Broomholm, Pollard Street and the spots beyond Bacton. Ring anyway from farther out through Norfolk. Coverage extends UK-wide, and the slot you get hangs on the diary rather than how far away you are.

Things Keswick drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Does a long run clear it?
- If you get it in time, and the motor is not in limp mode, sometimes. It needs a steady run at motorway speed, not ten minutes flat to Walcott Stores and back.
- Broadly how long does it take?
- Plan on typically around 2 hours — heavily blocked filters sometimes need a second pass, which extends it.
- How much does it cost across Keswick?
- Treatment starts from £299, and the call-out charge on top pays for the visit, the scan and the advice. The vehicle and your address both change the figure, so we price on the phone.
- Have I got to be present?
- Somewhere for the vehicle to stand, for a couple of hours, is all that is needed. Not you. Come along if you would rather, and the regeneration turns into a monitored drive.
- Can someone come to Keswick soon?
- It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is already in the schedule. Phone 0303 330 1830 and you will hear what is open across the NR area.
- The filter — does it come off the car?
- On the mobile service, no: the filter is treated in place. That job — a filter off, a filter back on — is not something we do.
- What if the light returns?
- Covered by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer heading back to Keswick.
