Mobile DPF Cleaner

Mobile DPF Cleaning around Kenn, Somerset

With on-site DPF cleaning, we drive out to the motor. The fitter pulls up at your address in Kenn and sets up. The diesel particulate filter is cleared on the vehicle, a DPF regeneration runs after it, and you keep the filter you came with.

Allow for the visit running typically around 2 hours. The clean opens from £299, agreed on the phone before anyone leaves.

Most owners find us with the light already on, and the vehicle low on power. That is the situation this page is written for.

DPF light on? What comes next

First thing: it is not necessarily the unit. A check happens before the work, because that same dashboard light has several candidate faults behind it.

Second thing: how you run it between now and then makes a difference.

  • A long even run may even now do it, provided the light is amber and the vehicle drives fine. Costs nothing at all, so try that before calling.
  • A drive will not touch it now — limp mode means that window has by then shut.
  • Diesel smell in the car, or black smoke under the throttle — stop arranging long drives and get it seen to.

Signs the car has been sending you

Symptoms have usually been building for some time before the light so much as shows. Last news, in other words:

  • less power, particularly pulling uphill
  • an engine whose revs will not pull as they should
  • the fuel economy is worse
  • a stop/start that has meekly given up
  • a diesel smell in the interior, or smoke under acceleration

Alone, none of that is evidence. The light with them suggests a loaded filter.

Why diesel particulate filters clog round Kenn

The motoring that comes with a coastal village like Kenn is the poorest sort for a DPF. Nothing of it runs long enough or gets hot enough for the filter to see through a regeneration: the school run to Yeo Moor Primary School, Kenn Road crawling at the morning rush, ten minutes to Tesco, the dash to Yatton. What should burn off remains.

The M5 lies under a mile from Kenn, Bristol under 15 miles away, and unless something carries you out that way often, entire weeks slip past without the sustained run that scours a filter. Geography does not assist.

DPF regeneration, and the stage limp mode ends it

Limp mode is the motor protecting itself. With output capped and the revs held, the regeneration the filter requires can never happen at all. That matters, because triggering one is just what a motorway run does.

Getting it up the motorway is the standard advice, and it holds as far as a point. Past that line — limp mode — more driving will not manage it, and the filter requires a clean.

A clogged DPF treated in Kenn, Somerset

Where the car stands is where the DPF is treated in Kenn

Nothing comes off the vehicle. That catches out people. The DPF sits bolted where it is and the work goes on around it, on a driveway, in a works car park, anywhere it can sit for two hours or so.

First a diagnostic. Live ECU data, the soot load as a percentage and as a mass, the sensor readings, the glow plugs, the associated components — all of it taken before any of it is cleaned.

Then the treatment. A cleaning solution is fed in through the access port on that vehicle and expands inside the filter, freeing the soot and ash a regeneration by itself will never move. Badly blocked filters sometimes take a second pass.

What the clean has loosened is then cleared by a regeneration. Ride along with the motor and it is done as a monitored drive out of Kenn. Drop it and the regeneration runs in place, with real-time data checked once it is done.

Then a second check, proving the change, clearing the warning light and logging anything still outstanding. Both sets of figures are emailed, so the before and after figures are on record.

When a DPF clean is not the solution

One thing is what treatment answers — a filter blocked with soot and ash. It does no good for:

  • pressure or temperature sensors reporting a block that is not there
  • the EGR valve jammed open
  • the AdBlue system playing up
  • glow plugs or injectors blocking the regeneration completing at all
  • the turbo pushing oil into the filter

That is what the first check is for. You are let know before all work begins, not after you have settled up, if it turns out to be one of those.

Lastly, two things. A vehicle with the filter cut out fails its MOT, and driving it is against the law, so that is no fix. What gets searched for as DPF renewal exchanges nothing: your own filter is treated in place and goes back into use.

DPF cleaning prices in Kenn

A call-out charge holds whatever happens, and pays for the visit, the booking fee, the scan and the advice given. The clean itself opens from £299.

Quoting a flat rate would not be truthful. We settle it over phone, once the motor and its probable needs are established. Whereabouts you are matters as much as what you run: Kenn itself, Clevedon close by, or otherwise out within the BS postcode area.

Cleaning that will not help is not a clean you pay for, and the check is what says so. Because the visit, the check and the advice have taken place, the call-out charge even so stands.

Aftercare is included by a 30-day warranty: should the light reappear within it, an engineer comes back to Kenn.

Igor was very professional in both his manner and how he successfully carried out the treatment-I've got my Car back!!

Adrian H.

excellent service! came to my place of work, did not need to remove the DPF from the car and it only took a couple hours. Car performance and fuel efficiency has significantly improved. very happy with this service and price.

Richard A.

Very friendly polite operative who arrived on time messaged me to say he was here. Told me there wasn't a fault with the DPF so there would be no charge gave me a few suggestions on what it might be so will check those out. Thanks Chris.

What we clean, and how far we travel round Kenn

The one mobile service covers private cars, panel vans and light commercials, HGVs, plant and construction machinery and agricultural vehicles, and on every one the filter is cleaned on the vehicle rather than carried anywhere.

Kenn is rarely a special trip: technicians are along Kenn Road nearly every week, and the same run takes in Clevedon, Kingston Seymour and the places out past North End. Ring anyway from even further out around Somerset. Coverage reaches UK-wide, and the day you are offered depends on the calendar rather than how far away you are.

Kenn itself

Kenn is a small coastal village in Somerset, situated near the mouth of the River Kenn, with a low elevation of around 8 metres above sea level. Kenn lies close to the larger town of Clevedon and the city of Bristol, which is approximately 10 miles away. Kenn has a population of around 450 people, predominantly living in detached houses. Kenn is also near to other small places such as North End and Horsecastle.

Things Kenn drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Is a long drive enough on its own?
If you get it early enough, and the car is not in limp mode, sometimes. It takes a long run at motorway speed, not fifteen minutes flat to Tesco and back.
The visit runs how long?
Expect typically around 2 hours — severely clogged filters sometimes need a second pass, which adds to it.
What does it come to in Kenn?
It begins from £299, plus the call-out charge covering the visit, the scan and the advice. Both the vehicle and where you are shift it, which is why settling it goes by phone.
Have I got to be present?
No. The motor requires a spot to wait for a couple of hours; nobody expects you to stand with it. Preferring to be there is fine: the regeneration then is done out on the open road, monitored.
Coming to Kenn — how soon?
You are offered often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is now in the schedule. Ring 0303 330 1830 and we will let you what is free across the BS area.
Is the filter taken off the vehicle?
It is cleaned where it is, on the call-out service. Nor does lifting a filter off nor putting one back on is work we do.
And if the light comes back?
An engineer comes back out to Kenn — the 30-day warranty includes aftercare.
