Mobile DPF Cleaning across Kellas, Moray

With call-out DPF cleaning, we drive out to the motor. A fitter arrives at your door in Kellas, clears the diesel particulate filter while it is attached to the motor, carries out a DPF regeneration, and you keep the filter you came with.

You'll be given a number by phone before anyone goes, the clean opening from £299, and the visit running typically around 2 hours.

The light is on already and the car is down on power — that is how we normally find people, and roughly what this page is about.

The DPF light is on. What next?

Not the filter, necessarily. Main thing to note. That light can arise from a number of faults, not only one, so the visit starts with a scan and not with cleaning.

How the car is handled in the meantime makes a difference too.

  • Amber light, car even now driving fine — a long steady run can yet clear it by itself. Costs nothing at all, and worth attempting before you book anything.
  • A drive will not shift it now — limp mode means that window has now shut.
  • Stop planning long drives and get it looked at if the cabin reeks of diesel or there is black smoke when you press on.

What the car has been showing you

Symptoms have normally been mounting for a while before the light so much as arrives. Late news, in other words:

  • going uphill, the power tails off
  • the revs no longer climb the way they always did
  • the fuel use is poorer
  • silently, the stop/start gives up
  • a diesel smell in the cabin, or smoke under the throttle

None of that is conclusive alone. Alongside the light with them, the filter is a fair guess.

Blocked diesel particulate filters round Kellas, and the why

Being an area, Kellas produces precisely the motoring a DPF manages least well. A regeneration needs the time and heat, and sees none: not on the school run to the local primary school, not on B9010 at half eight, not on ten minutes to Allarburn Farm Shop, and not on the run to Elgin. Unburnt soot that should burn off banks up instead.

Neither is a long way from Kellas: over 50 miles to the M90, under 50 miles to Inverness. Neither is on the way to much most weeks, though, so the run that would empty a filter hardly ever gets made.

DPF regeneration, and the point limp mode stops it

What limp mode means is the motor protecting itself. A sustained drive works by setting off a regeneration, and that is precisely what limp mode prevents: power limited, revs kept low, no regeneration possible.

Taking it up the motorway is the usual advice, and it stands up to a line. The filter requires cleaning rather than driving once the vehicle has slipped into limp mode.

On-site DPF cleaning where the vehicle stands across Kellas

The filter does not budge. That is the part most drivers do not expect: the job takes place with the DPF even now fixed to the motor, on your drive, in a work car park, any place the motor can wait for a while.

Nothing is cleaned until other faults are cleared. That involves a scan first: real-time data off the ECU, soot load by percent and by actual weight, and a review of the sensor feeds, glow plugs and associated parts.

A cleaning solution after that is fed in through the entry point on that car, opening out inside the filter to lift soot and ash a regeneration by itself will never shift. Badly loaded filters sometimes take a second pass.

Next, a regeneration drives off everything the clean freed. Either it runs as a monitored drive out of Kellas, with you along, or it is done where the vehicle sits and the real-time data is verified once done.

A second diagnostic verifies the change, clears the warning light and logs anything still showing. Both reports are emailed over, so you have the before and after figures to hand.

Where treatment is not the fix

A clean cures one thing: a filter choked with soot and ash. It does little for:

  • a pressure or temperature sensor showing a restriction that is not there
  • EGR valves that stick open
  • the AdBlue system playing up
  • injectors or glow plugs that prevent a regeneration running in the first place
  • oil passing through the filter from a faulty turbo

That is what the first check is for. If one of those proves the fault, you learn of it up front rather than once the money has changed hands already.

DPF renewal is what people look up, but no part is swapped: the filter you already own is treated where it sits and put back to work. Nor is having it cut out a fix, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes an offence. Two more things worth noting.

The cost of DPF cleaning around Kellas

Cleaning opens from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it pays for the call-out, the booking, the checks and the advice.

Naming a flat rate would not be honest. We fix it on the phone, once the vehicle and its likely needs are clear. The car moves it, and so does the location — Kellas, Glenlatterach, or a spot otherwise out in the IV postcode area.

A clean that will not help is not cleaning you pay for, and the diagnostic is what says so. Because the visit, the diagnostic and the advice have taken place, the call-out charge even so holds.

A 30-day warranty covers aftercare on the clean, and that includes an engineer coming back out to Kellas if the light returns inside the time.

What we clean, and how far we reach round Kellas

The filter is treated where it sits on all of them: cars, vans and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, construction and plant machinery, agricultural machinery. Nothing is taken anywhere.

The same run that keeps engineers on B9010 most weeks picks up Kellas, Glenlatterach, Thomshill and the spots beyond Pluscarden. Phone anyway from farther out through Moray. Coverage reaches UK-wide, and the day you are given depends on the calendar rather than how far away you are.

Questions Kellas drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Does a long run sort it?
Quickly enough, and with the car out of limp mode, yes — sometimes. That requires motorway speed for a long spell, rather than a short trip to Allarburn Farm Shop.
Broadly how long does it take?
It is typically around 2 hours. A severely blocked filter can need a second clean, which extends that.
How much does it cost in Kellas?
Cleaning opens from £299, and the call-out charge on top pays for the visit, the diagnostic and the advice. Settling it is done by phone, since what you drive and where you sit both change the number.
Have I need to be around?
No. The vehicle wants somewhere to sit for a couple of hours; you do not need to stand with it. The regeneration can be run as a supervised drive if you would sooner ride along.
Travelling to Kellas — how soon?
Depending on the schedule, often same-day or next-day is typical. Ring 0303 330 1830 and we will tell you what is free across the IV area.
Is the filter lifted off the vehicle?
Not on the call-out service — it is treated where it stands. And neither does taking a filter off nor putting one back on is work we do.
The light comes back — then what?
Aftercare falls inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer returning to Kellas.
