Signs the motor has been showing you
Late news, the light. The symptoms tend to grow for some time before it appears:
- power falling off, above all climbing uphill
- revs that will not rise the way they always did
- fuel consumption going worse
- without a word, the stop/start bows out
- diesel in the interior, or smoke on the way up through the box
Any one of those, taken singly, is not proof. The light alongside them indicates a blocked filter.
The reason diesel particulate filters block around Kellan
The driving that belongs to a coastal area like Kellan is the worst kind for a DPF. Think about an ordinary week: the local primary school and home, B8073 at a standstill before the hour, a short hop to Spar, a dash to the nearest station.
