Kedlock, Fife: Mobile DPF Cleaning
With mobile DPF cleaning, we travel to the car. The fitter arrives at your door across Kedlock and starts. The diesel particulate filter is treated on the vehicle, a DPF regeneration runs after it, and you hold on to the filter you started with.
Nobody travels until the figure is settled over the phone. The visit lasts typically around 2 hours and the clean begins from £299.
The light is on already and the motor is down on power — that is how we generally come across people, and roughly what this page deals with.
DPF light on? What happens next
First thing: it is not automatically the filter. A number of faults put the same light on the very same dash, which is why a visit starts with a scan rather than with a clean.
The use you get in the meantime counts. That is the other thing.
- A long constant run may even now do it, provided the light is amber and the vehicle runs as normal. Costs nothing, so have a go at that before booking.
- That window has gone once the motor has fallen into limp mode. A drive will not do it now.
- A diesel smell inside, or black smoke under hard acceleration, is the point to stop arranging long drives and ring.
Before the light, what the car was warning you
Late news, the light. The symptoms usually mount for weeks before it shows:
- dropping away on power, above all uphill
- the revs no longer climb the way they once did
- worse fuel use
- stop/start without a word packing in
- a diesel smell in the cabin, or smoke under acceleration
Any one of those, taken by itself, is not conclusive. The light alongside them points at a loaded filter.
Why diesel particulate filters block near Kedlock
The driving that belongs to an area like Kedlock is the worst sort for a DPF. The school run to the local primary school, A92 at a standstill at the morning rush, a few minutes to Lidl, the dash to Cupar — not one bit of it goes on long enough or is hot enough for the filter to finish a regeneration. Instead of clearing, the unburnt soot banks up.
Where you sit does not oblige either. The M90 is under 15 miles from Kedlock and Dundee is under 10 miles away, so unless something pulls you out that way regularly, whole weeks pass without the long steady run that could scour the filter by itself.
Why limp mode prevents a DPF regeneration
It is self-defence: that is all limp mode is. With output capped and the revs pinned, the regeneration the filter needs cannot complete at all. That matters, because starting one is just what a motorway run does.
The standard advice — take it up the motorway — is sensible, up until it is not. The filter wants treatment rather than driving once the car has dropped into limp mode.
DPF cleaning at the car in Kedlock
The filter does not leave it. That is the bit most drivers do not see coming: the job is done with the DPF even now fitted to the motor, on your front, in a work car park, wherever the vehicle can stand for a couple of hours.
Nothing is started until other faults are eliminated. That means a check first: live data off the ECU, soot load by proportion and by mass, and a look over of the sensors, glow plugs and related hardware.
A cleaning fluid after that is injected through the access port on that vehicle, opening out inside the filter to free soot and ash a regeneration on its own will never shift. Sometimes a filter is loaded enough to need doing twice.
What the clean has loosened is then cleared by a regeneration. Either it goes as a monitored drive out of Kedlock, with you along, or it is done where the car sits and the live data is checked once done.
A second check confirms the change, clears the warning light and logs anything still showing. Both reports are sent over, so you have the before and after figures recorded.
When a DPF clean is not the answer
A filter choked with soot and ash is the one thing treatment fixes. It will not touch:
- sensors, pressure, showing a blockage that is not real
- an EGR valve stuck open
- AdBlue system problems
- a regeneration that never completes, because of glow plugs or injectors
- the turbo passing oil into the filter
Which is why the scan comes first. Where one of those proves the fault, you hear about it in advance rather than once the money has left altogether.
Lastly, two things. A vehicle with the filter hollowed out cannot pass its MOT, and driving it is an offence, so that is no remedy. What gets typed in as DPF renewal replaces nothing: your filter is cleaned in place and goes back into use.
The price of DPF cleaning around Kedlock
Every visit carries a call-out charge — getting to you, taking the booking, running the diagnostic and offering the advice. The clean itself opens from £299.
Not one flat rate would be honest, so the figure is agreed by the phone once we have the vehicle and what the filter is going to need. The place you are matters as much as what you run: Kedlock itself, Rathillet nearby, or otherwise out within the KY postcode area.
If the scan writes cleaning out, there is not a penny to pay for it. What still stands is the call-out charge, since the visit happened, the check was run and the advice was passed on.
The work comes with a 30-day warranty including aftercare, including an engineer coming back out to Kedlock if the light comes back inside that time.
Fantastic service, came within 3 hours, Igor is a very knowledgeable polite mechanic. The car runs like a dream. Thank you.
What a great guy helped with my DPF & also told me what his doing along the way would highly recommend top guy Thank you bro.
Very friendly polite operative who arrived on time messaged me to say he was here. Told me there wasn't a fault with the DPF so there would be no charge gave me a few suggestions on what it might be so will check those out. Thanks Chris.
The vehicles we clean and the ground we cover round Kedlock
Whatever it is — car, van, light commercial, lorry, plant, construction machinery, agricultural vehicle — the same on-site service applies, and the filter never quits it.
Engineers are along A92 most weeks, so Kedlock is seldom a journey of its own, and the same run picks up Rathillet, Foodieash and the spots out past Kilmany. Coverage is UK-wide, so even further out through Fife is nonetheless worth a phone call, and what picks between today and tomorrow is the schedule rather than the distance.

Questions Kedlock drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Does a long run shift it?
- Sometimes, if you catch it in time and the motor has not dropped into limp mode. That means motorway speed for a long spell, rather than a quick trip to Lidl.
- About how long does it last?
- It is typically around 2 hours. A heavily loaded filter can need a second clean, which lengthens that.
- What does it run to across Kedlock?
- It begins from £299, plus the call-out charge paying for the visit, the diagnostic and the advice. Settling it is done by phone, since what you run and where you sit both change the number.
- Must I be there in person?
- No. The vehicle needs space to sit for a couple of hours; you need not stand with it. The regeneration can be carried out as a watched drive if you would rather come along.
- Can someone travel to Kedlock soon?
- It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is currently in the calendar. Call 0303 330 1830 and we will say to you what is available across the KY area.
- The filter — does it leave the motor?
- Not on the call-out service — it is done where it stands. That job — a filter off, a filter back on — is not a job we do.
- Suppose the light reappears?
- Aftercare sits inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer coming back to Kedlock.
