Kaimrig End, Scottish Borders: Mobile DPF Cleaning
Cleaning the DPF is done at the car, not at a workshop. A technician comes at your place across Kaimrig End, treats the diesel particulate filter while it is still on the motor, carries out a DPF regeneration, and you keep the filter you arrived with.
Nobody travels until the figure is fixed by the phone. The visit lasts typically around 2 hours and the clean opens from £299.
Written for the state most owners are in: the light showing, the car short for power, and the clean still to arrange.
Your DPF light is showing — what then?
Not the DPF, automatically. Main thing to say. Plenty of faults put the same light on the same dash, which is why a visit begins with a scan rather than with treatment.
Second thing: how you drive it between now and then makes a difference.
- Amber light, vehicle still driving fine — a long even run can even now shift it by itself. Costs nothing, and worth trying before you call anything.
- Car already gone into limp mode — that window has gone. A drive will not shift it now.
- Diesel smell in the interior, or black smoke under acceleration — stop arranging long drives and get it looked at.
What the vehicle has been showing you
Belated news, the light. The symptoms tend to build for weeks before it arrives:
- power tailing off, above all going uphill
- the revs no longer pull the way they once did
- worse fuel use
- a stop/start that has quietly packed in
- the interior stinking of diesel, or smoke when you press on
None of that is evidence alone. The light alongside them points at a blocked filter.
What chokes diesel particulate filters round Kaimrig End
For a DPF, the worst motoring is the kind you meet across an area such as Kaimrig End. A regeneration wants long enough and heat, and sees none: not on the school run to the local primary school, not on A72 at half past eight, not on five minutes to Co-op Food, and not on the run to Carstairs. Unburnt soot that should burn away collects instead.
The M74 stands under 15 miles from Kaimrig End, Edinburgh under 25 miles away, and unless something carries you out that way routinely, whole weeks pass without the long unbroken run that clears a DPF. Geography does not help.
The stage a DPF regeneration can no longer happen
Limp mode is the car looking after itself. Pulling power is limited, the revs will not pull, and the regeneration the filter wants can no longer happen — which is the real difficulty, because a long drive works by triggering that regeneration.
Getting it up the motorway is the common advice, and it holds right up to a point. In limp mode you are the far side of that stage: treatment is what will work, not more driving.
The motor stays put for call-out DPF cleaning across Kaimrig End
Nothing is taken from the vehicle. That catches out people. The DPF remains bolted where it is and the work is done around it, on a forecourt, in a works car park, any place it can stand for a couple of hours.
First a scan. Real-time ECU data, the soot load as a proportion and as a figure, the sensor readings, the glow plugs, the related parts — all of it read before any of it is started.
A cleaning solution then is injected through the access port on that car, expanding inside the filter to loosen soot and ash a regeneration on its own will never move. Sometimes a filter is clogged enough to need doing twice.
What the clean has freed is then driven off by a regeneration. Stay with the motor and it turns into a monitored drive out of Kaimrig End. Drop it and the regeneration is done statically, with real-time data read once it is done.
Finally the scan runs again — the change verified, the light put out, anything still open logged. Both sets of figures come to you by email, so the numbers are on record.
Where a clean is not the solution
Only one fault is answered by cleaning: the filter blocked with ash and soot. It does nothing for:
- a pressure sensor reporting a restriction that is not there
- a jammed EGR valve
- a failure in the AdBlue system
- a regeneration that never completes, because of glow plugs or injectors
- a turbo putting oil through the filter
Which is why the diagnostic comes first. If one of those proves the fault, you hear about it at the outset rather than once the money has changed hands altogether.
Lastly, two things. A vehicle with the filter cut out fails its MOT, and driving it is an offence, so that is no fix. What gets typed in as DPF renewal exchanges nothing: your own filter is treated in place and goes back into work.
Figures for DPF cleaning across Kaimrig End
A call-out charge stands whatever the outcome, and takes in the visit, the booking fee, the diagnostic and the advice passed on. The clean itself starts from £299.
Publishing a flat rate would not be truthful. We settle it on the phone, once the vehicle and its likely needs are clear. The motor shifts it, and so does the postcode — Kaimrig End, Elsrickle, or a spot further out in the ML postcode area.
If the diagnostic counts a clean out, there is no charge to pay for it. Because the visit, the diagnostic and the advice have taken place, the call-out charge still holds.
The job includes a 30-day warranty including aftercare, including an engineer travelling back out to Kaimrig End if the light comes back inside that time.
Really pleased with the service which cleared the DPF block and warning light on dash of my Landrover. Saved me £2500!
Excellent service from Gareth at DPF fixer. Very thorough, gave full and clear explanation of problem, extremely helpful. Worth every penny for peace of mind and sorting problem.
Baz (the DPF Technician) was absolutely superb; he was knowledgeable, polite and informative. Importantly he cleaned and restored my DPF such that my car performance returned to normal.
Where we reach around Kaimrig End, and what we clean
Private cars, vans and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, plant and construction machinery, farm vehicles — the one call-out service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is treated on the vehicle rather than taken anywhere.
Our engineers are along A72 nearly every week, so Kaimrig End is hardly ever a special trip, and the same run takes in Elsrickle, Kirkurd and the places out past Skirling. Phone anyway from even further out around Scottish Borders. Coverage runs UK-wide, and the slot you get depends on the diary rather than how far away you are.

Things Kaimrig End drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Does a long run shift it?
- Quickly enough, and with the vehicle out of limp mode, yes — sometimes. It needs a sustained run at motorway speed, not ten minutes or so to Co-op Food and back.
- The visit takes how long?
- That is typically around 2 hours, though a severely blocked filter can take cleaning twice, which takes longer.
- How much does it run to around Kaimrig End?
- The call-out charge covers the visit, the diagnostic and the advice; the clean itself opens from £299. Both the vehicle and where you are change it, which is why quoting goes by phone.
- Must I be present in person?
- The car requires a space for two hours or so. You do not need to be in it. Ride along if you prefer, and the regeneration turns into a supervised drive.
- How soon can someone travel to Kaimrig End?
- Depending on the calendar, often same-day or next-day is usual. Ring 0303 330 1830 and we will let you what is available across the ML area.
- Will the filter be removed?
- It is treated where it sits, on the on-site service. Neither job — a filter off, a filter back on — is not something we do.
- The light reappears — then what?
- An engineer travels back out to Kaimrig End — the 30-day warranty takes in aftercare.
