Mobile DPF Cleaning in Johnston and Pembrokeshire
The car stays put — call-out DPF cleaning comes to it. A technician turns up at your door in Johnston, treats the diesel particulate filter while it is still on the motor, carries out a DPF regeneration, and you end up with the filter you started with.
Nobody travels until the price is fixed by the phone. The visit takes typically around 2 hours and the clean opens from £299.
The light is showing and the motor is short of power — that is how we usually find people, and what this page is about.
Your DPF light is showing — what then?
First thing: it is not necessarily the unit. Cleaning is not where a visit starts. A scan is — a number of faults register as the same warning.
Second thing: how you handle it between now and then matters.
- Amber light, motor still driving normally — a long constant run can even now sort it by itself. Costs nothing, and worth attempting before you ring anything.
- A drive will not touch it now — limp mode means that window has now shut.
- A diesel smell in there, or black smoke under acceleration, is the stage to stop arranging long drives and call.
Before the light, what the motor was showing you
By the time the light shows, things have normally been slipping for weeks. It is late news:
- less power, above all climbing uphill
- an engine whose revs will not climb as before
- the fuel economy is worse
- without a word, the stop/start gives up
- diesel in the interior, or smoke on the way up through the gearbox
Any one of those, taken singly, is not conclusive. With the light, it is a fair guess the filter is full.
The explanation diesel particulate filters choke round Johnston
Being a rural village, Johnston produces precisely the motoring a DPF manages least well. Not one bit of it lasts long enough or is hot enough for the filter to see through a regeneration: the school run to the local primary school, St. Peter's Road barely moving at the morning rush, five minutes to Nisa Local, the hop to the nearest station. What should burn away stays behind.
Geography does not assist either. The M4 is under 50 miles from Johnston and St Davids is under 15 miles away, so unless something carries you out that way regularly, weeks go by without the sustained run that could clear the filter by itself.
DPF regeneration, and the moment limp mode ends it
What limp mode means is the vehicle protecting itself. Output is limited, the revs will not climb, and the regeneration the filter wants can never run — which is the whole difficulty, because a sustained drive works by starting that regeneration.
The standard advice — take it up the motorway — is sensible, until it is not. The filter wants a clean rather than driving once the motor has slipped into limp mode.
The vehicle stays where it is for call-out DPF cleaning round Johnston
The filter does not leave it. That is the detail most people do not anticipate: the job happens with the DPF still fixed to the motor, on your drive, in a work car park, any place the car can wait for a few hours.
Nothing is cleaned until other faults are ruled out. That requires a check first: real-time data off the ECU, soot load by percentage and by actual weight, and a look over of the sensor feeds, glow plugs and connected components.
Next comes the clean itself: solution in through the motor's own access port, expanding inside the filter and loosening what a regeneration will not. A second pass is sometimes called for on heavily clogged filters.
Next, a regeneration clears everything the clean freed. Either it goes as a monitored drive out of Johnston, with you there, or it is done where the vehicle sits and the real-time data is checked after.
Then a second diagnostic, proving the change, putting out the warning light and noting anything still logged. Both sets of figures are emailed over, so the before and after figures are on record.
Where treatment is not the answer
Only one fault is cured by treatment: the filter blocked with ash and soot. It does little for:
- the wrong reading from a temperature sensor
- an EGR valve jammed open
- a failure in the AdBlue system
- failed glow plugs or injectors, so no regeneration ever runs
- oil passing through the filter from a faulty turbo
That is what the first diagnostic is for. When it proves to be one of those, you are told before any work begins rather than after you have settled up for it.
DPF renewal is what people search for, but no part is exchanged: the filter you already own is cleaned where it sits and put back to work. Nor is having it gutted a fix, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes unlawful. Two more things worth knowing.
Figures for DPF cleaning across Johnston
A call-out charge stands whatever follows, and pays for the visit, the booking fee, the scan and the advice passed on. The clean itself opens from £299.
No flat rate would be truthful, so the number is settled over the phone once we know the vehicle and what the filter is apt to need. Two separate things shift it: what you drive, and where you are — Johnston itself, across at Freystrop, or otherwise out in the SA postcode area.
If the check writes a clean out, there is nothing to pay for it. What nonetheless holds is the call-out charge, since the visit was made, the check was run and the advice was given.
A 30-day warranty covers aftercare on the job, and that includes an engineer coming back out to Johnston if the light comes back inside the period.
Very fast and excellent service. Far cheaper than replacing whole DPF, and Dave was extremely professional and knowledgeable on the process and also cars generally!
Jim was in time, very professional and helpful answering my questions and in explaining the diagnostic information. He also could answer my questions about my model which has it's own issues. Very happy with him.
Excellent professional and very useful SCOTTISH bloke Nat was full of knowledge great to deal with and on time superb would recommend to any other garage or customer thanks.
What we clean, and how far we reach around Johnston
The filter is done where it sits on all of them: cars, panel vans and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, plant machinery, farm vehicles. Nothing is moved anywhere.
The same round that has engineers on St. Peter's Road most weeks covers Johnston, Freystrop, Tiers Cross and the places beyond Rosemarket. Coverage is UK-wide, so even further out through Pembrokeshire is nonetheless worth a call, and what picks between today and tomorrow is the calendar rather than the distance.

What Johnston drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Will a long drive sort it?
- It might, provided you spot it early enough and limp mode has not arrived. It needs a long run at motorway speed, not five minutes to Nisa Local and back.
- Does the visit take long?
- It is typically around 2 hours. A heavily loaded filter can need a second clean, which adds to that.
- In Johnston, what does it cost?
- The call-out charge pays for the visit, the scan and the advice; treatment itself begins from £299. We quote on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both shift the price.
- Do I have to be there?
- No. The motor requires somewhere to sit for a couple of hours; you do not need to stand with it. The regeneration can be run as a watched drive if you would rather be there.
- Can someone travel to Johnston soon?
- You are in for often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is already in the diary. Call 0303 330 1830 and you will know what is available across the SA area.
- Will the filter be removed?
- It is cleaned where it sits, on the mobile service. Lifting a filter off or bolting one back on count as anything something we do either way.
- What if the light comes back?
- Taken in by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer travelling back to Johnston.
