Jeaniefield, Scottish Borders: Mobile DPF Cleaning
With on-site DPF cleaning, we travel to the motor. The fitter turns up at your place across Jeaniefield and gets to work. The diesel particulate filter is treated still on the motor, a DPF regeneration follows, and you keep the filter you came with.
You'll be given a price by phone before anyone leaves, the clean starting from £299, and the visit running typically around 2 hours.
Written for the state most owners are in: the light already on, the motor short for power, and the clean still to fix.
Your DPF light is showing — what then?
The DPF is not necessarily what is wrong, and that leads. Treatment is not where a visit opens. A scan is — several faults appear as the same warning.
It tells what you manage with the vehicle between now and the appointment.
- Worth a try before you ring anything: amber light, motor driving fine, just one steady run, no outlay.
- That window has closed once the vehicle has slipped into limp mode. Motoring will not help now.
- Get it looked at rather than driving it — diesel in the car, or smoke on the throttle, has gone beyond the long-run stage.
Signs the motor has been showing you
Last news, the light. The symptoms generally grow for a while before it shows:
- less power, particularly climbing uphill
- an engine whose revs will not rise as before
- the fuel consumption is down
- a stop/start that has silently given up
- diesel in the interior, or smoke on the way up through the gearbox
That is not evidence alone. Next to the light, it is a fair guess the filter is loaded.
What chokes diesel particulate filters round Jeaniefield
For a DPF, the worst motoring is the kind you meet in an area such as Jeaniefield. Think about an ordinary week: the local primary school and back, The Croft at a halt before half nine, a five-minute run to Asda, a hop to Stow. None of it there lasts long enough or runs hot enough to finish a regeneration. Instead of burning away, the soot load builds up.
The M8 stands under 50 miles from Jeaniefield, Edinburgh under 50 miles out, and unless something takes you out that way regularly, full weeks pass without the sustained run that clears a DPF. Geography does not assist.
Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration gives out
Limp mode is the vehicle protecting itself. Power is held down, the revs will not pull, and the regeneration the filter wants can no longer complete — which is the real catch, because a proper drive works by starting that regeneration.
The usual advice — run it up the motorway — is sensible, right until it is not. Once the motor is in limp mode you are the far side of that point, and the filter needs cleaning rather than more driving.
Mobile DPF cleaning where the vehicle stands round Jeaniefield
On your driveway, in a work car park, any place the vehicle can stand for a few hours: the job happens with the filter even now bolted on, which is the bit most people do not expect.
First a diagnostic. Live ECU data, the soot load as a proportion and as a weight, the sensor feeds, the glow plugs, the associated parts — all of it logged before anything is touched.
Then the clean. A cleaning solution goes in through the access point on that car and opens out inside the filter, loosening the soot and ash a regeneration alone will never move. A second pass is sometimes called for on badly blocked filters.
What the clean has lifted is then burned off by a regeneration. That is a monitored drive out of Jeaniefield if you are present, or a static regeneration where the car sits, with the real-time data verified afterwards.
Then a second scan, proving the change, clearing the warning light and noting anything still outstanding. Both sets of figures are sent over, so the before and after figures are recorded.
What a DPF clean will not cure
Only one fault is cured by a clean: the filter choked with ash and soot. It does little for:
- a temperature or pressure sensor flagging a restriction that is not there
- EGR valves that jam open
- a failure in the AdBlue system
- a regeneration that hardly ever runs, because of glow plugs or injectors
- a turbo passing oil through the filter
That is what the first check is for. If one of those is the fault, you hear about it at the outset rather than once the money has gone already.
Two more worth noting. Getting the filter gutted is not a solution — a vehicle without a serviceable DPF fails its MOT and driving it is illegal. And cleaning is sometimes described as DPF renewal: nothing is swapped, your original filter is cleaned in place and sent back into use.
The price for DPF cleaning around Jeaniefield
Treatment starts from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it takes in the call-out, the booking, the scans and the advice.
Naming a flat rate would not be honest. We settle it by phone, once the vehicle and its probable needs are clear. The vehicle moves it, and so does the postcode — Jeaniefield, South Blainslie, or a spot farther out in the TD postcode area.
You are not billed for a clean that the scan says will not work. What still holds is the call-out charge, since the visit happened, the check was run and the advice was given.
If the light reappears inside that time, an engineer travels back out to Jeaniefield — the work carries a 30-day warranty taking in aftercare.
Thomas was great, explained everything to me so I understood and got my car back on the road. Really informative and gave good advice.
Absolutely amazing job. Would highly recommend this company and the job they did was amazing. Cars never ran so good.
DPF Fixer engineer was prompt, efficient and kept me informed throughout the process. I am pleased with the outcome so thank you.

Questions Jeaniefield drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Is a long drive enough alone?
- Quickly enough, and with the motor out of limp mode, yes — sometimes. Five minutes to Asda and back will not do it; motorway speed, held for a stretch, will.
- How long does the visit take?
- That is typically around 2 hours, though a heavily loaded filter can need cleaning twice, which runs on.
- In Jeaniefield, what does it come to?
- Cleaning begins from £299, and the call-out charge on top covers the visit, the check and the advice. The vehicle and your address both shift the number, so we settle it on the phone.
- Must I be present in person?
- No. The motor needs a spot to stand for a couple of hours; you do not need to stand with it. Ride along if you like, and the regeneration turns into a monitored drive.
- When can someone travel to Jeaniefield?
- You are in for often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is already in the diary. Ring 0303 330 1830 and you will learn what is open across the TD area.
- Does the filter leave the motor?
- Done where it stands, on this service, so no. That job — a filter off, a filter back on — is not something we do.
- What if the light returns?
- The 30-day warranty takes in aftercare, including an engineer heading back to Jeaniefield.
