- power dropping away, particularly going uphill
- the revs no longer rise the way they always did
- fuel use that is worse than before
- stop/start silently packing in
- the car reeking of diesel, or smoke when you pull away
None of that is proof on its own. It is a fair bet the filter is blocked once the light is there too.
