Mobile DPF Cleaning covering Inveresragan, Argyll and Bute

With on-site DPF cleaning, we come to the vehicle. A technician turns up at your address over in Inveresragan, treats the diesel particulate filter while it is attached to the car, runs a DPF regeneration, and you end up with the filter you started with.

Nobody leaves until the number is fixed over the phone. The visit runs typically around 2 hours and the clean starts from £299.

The light is already on and the vehicle is low on power — that is how we generally find people, and what this page covers.

The DPF light is on. What then?

The unit is not automatically what is at fault, and that goes first. A check comes before all work, because that same panel light has plenty of candidate faults behind it.

The driving you get in the meantime tells. That is the next thing.

  • A long even run may yet manage it, provided the light is amber and the motor runs normally. Costs nothing at all, so have a go at that before booking.
  • Car already dropped into limp mode — that window has closed. A drive will not reach it now.
  • Stop planning long drives and get it checked if the interior smells of diesel or there is black smoke when you pull away.

Signs the car has been giving you

Late news, the light. The symptoms tend to mount for some time before it shows:

  • tailing off on power, above all uphill
  • the revs no longer rise the way they always did
  • fuel consumption turning worse
  • silently, the stop/start bows out
  • smoke under the throttle, or a diesel smell in the car

By itself, none of that is conclusive. The light alongside them indicates a loaded filter.

The reason diesel particulate filters clog near Inveresragan

The motoring that goes with a coastal area like Inveresragan is the poorest kind for a DPF. The school run to the local primary school, Bonawe Road at a crawl at half eight, five minutes to the local shops, the run to Taynuilt — nothing of it goes on long enough or is hot enough for the filter to see through a regeneration. Instead of clearing, the soot load banks up.

Neither is distant from Inveresragan: under 50 miles to the M8, over 50 miles to Stirling. Neither is on the way to anything most weeks, though, so the drive that would clear a filter hardly ever comes.

Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration stops

It is self-defence: that is all limp mode is. With pulling power limited and the revs held, the regeneration the filter needs can never complete at all. That tells, because starting one is exactly what a motorway run does.

The standard advice — get it up the motorway — is good, until it is not. In limp mode you are past that point: treatment is what will do it, not more road work.

A blocked DPF treated across Inveresragan, Argyll and Bute

DPF cleaning at the motor round Inveresragan

Most people do not see coming this part: the filter stays put. The job takes place with the DPF yet fixed to the car — on your front, in a work car park, any place the vehicle can wait for a few hours.

Nothing is touched until other faults are cleared. That requires a diagnostic first: real-time data off the ECU, soot load by percent and by actual weight, and a review of the sensor feeds, glow plugs and connected hardware.

Then comes the clean itself: solution in through the motor's own entry point, spreading inside the filter and freeing what a regeneration will not. Where the filter is badly clogged, allow for a second pass.

A regeneration follows, clearing what the clean has loosened. That is a monitored drive out of Inveresragan if you are present, or a static regeneration where the vehicle stands, with the running data read afterwards.

Then a second scan, confirming the change, putting out the warning light and noting anything still outstanding. Both reports are emailed over, so the before and after figures are on record.

What a DPF clean will not fix

Treatment answers one thing: a filter blocked with soot and ash. It does little for:

  • pressure or temperature sensors reporting a block that is not there
  • a jammed EGR valve
  • an AdBlue system failure
  • a regeneration that hardly ever runs, because of glow plugs or injectors
  • a turbo pushing oil through the filter

That is what the first scan is for. If it is found to be one of those, you are let know before any work begins rather than after you have paid anything.

Cutting the filter out is not a fix: without a functioning DPF a vehicle cannot pass its MOT, and driving it is an offence. DPF renewal is the phrase people type in, though nothing is swapped — your own filter is cleared in place and put back into use. Two more worth knowing.

The price for DPF cleaning across Inveresragan

Treatment starts from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it takes in the call-out, the booking, the diagnostics and the advice.

No single flat rate would be straight, so the price is settled by the phone once we know the vehicle and what the filter is likely to need. A pair of things move it: what you run, and where you are — Inveresragan itself, over at Ardchattan, or otherwise out across the PA postcode area.

Where the diagnostic says cleaning will not work, you are not asked to pay for a clean. You still pay that charge: someone travelled, ran the check and gave you the advice.

If the light returns inside that time, an engineer comes back out to Inveresragan — the job carries a 30-day warranty taking in aftercare.

Where we get to round Inveresragan, and what we clean

Cars, panel vans and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, construction and plant machinery, farm vehicles — a single on-site service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is cleaned in place rather than taken anywhere.

Technicians are along Bonawe Road nearly every week, so Inveresragan is seldom a journey of its own, and the same run takes in Ardchattan, Airds Bay and the spots out past Bonawe. Farther out through Argyll and Bute is nonetheless worth ringing about — coverage is UK-wide, and it is the diary rather than the distance that settles between one day and the next.

Frequent questions on DPF cleaning around Inveresragan

Will a long drive clear it?
Sometimes, if you catch it early and the vehicle has not slipped into limp mode. Fifteen minutes to the local shops and back will not do it; motorway speed, kept for some time, will.
How long does the visit take?
Plan on typically around 2 hours — badly clogged filters sometimes take a second pass, which extends it.
In Inveresragan, what does it come to?
It starts from £299, plus the call-out charge covering the visit, the scan and the advice. Settling it is done by phone, since what you own and where you live both move the figure.
Have I have to be around?
No. The car needs a spot to wait for a couple of hours; you need not stand with it. The regeneration can be done as a monitored drive if you would rather be there.
Can someone get to Inveresragan soon?
Depending on the diary, often same-day or next-day is usual. Call 0303 330 1830 and we will say to you what is open across the PA area.
The filter — does it come off the motor?
Cleaned where it is, on this service, so no. We never get filters off or bolt them back on, whichever way.
Suppose the light returns?
An engineer comes back out to Inveresragan — the 30-day warranty includes aftercare.
