Inverasdale, Highland: Mobile DPF Cleaning
Cleaning the DPF happens at the motor, not at a garage. The fitter turns up at your door in Inverasdale and gets to work. The diesel particulate filter is cleaned on the vehicle, a DPF regeneration runs after it, and you keep the filter you came with.
You'll know a price by phone before anyone departs, the clean beginning from £299, and the visit lasting typically around 2 hours.
If the light is on already and the car is low on power, this page is for you. That is how most owners get to us.
DPF light on? What to do
It might not be the filter at all. That is the first thing. That light can follow several faults, not merely one, so the visit starts with a diagnostic and not with cleaning.
The motoring you get in the meantime counts. That is the second thing.
- Amber light, car still driving as normal — a long even run can yet clear it by itself. Costs nothing at all, and worth attempting before you book anything.
- Vehicle already dropped into limp mode — that window has shut. A drive will not reach it now.
- A diesel smell in the car, or black smoke under hard acceleration, is the moment to stop arranging long drives and ring.
Before the light, what the motor was telling you
Symptoms have normally been growing for weeks before the light even appears. Belated news, in other words:
- power falling off, above all climbing uphill
- revs that will not climb the way they used to
- worse fuel economy
- a stop/start that has silently given up
- diesel in the cabin, or smoke on the way up through the gears
That is not evidence alone. Alongside the light, it is a fair assumption the filter is blocked.
Why diesel particulate filters block round Inverasdale
The driving that goes with a coastal area like Inverasdale is the least kind type for a DPF. Nothing of it goes on long enough or gets hot enough for the filter to finish a regeneration: the school run to the local primary school, B8057 crawling at half past eight, five minutes to Gairloch Co-op, the run to the nearest station. Instead of burning off, the soot collects.
Neither is a long way from Inverasdale: over 50 miles to the M90, over 50 miles to Inverness. Neither is on the way to anything most weeks, though, so the drive that would clear a filter hardly ever happens.
DPF regeneration, and the moment limp mode ends it
It is self-protection: that is all limp mode is. The real catch is that a sustained drive works by starting a regeneration, and in limp mode the revs will not pull and power is capped.
So the standard advice to run it up the motorway is sound advice, up until it is not. In limp mode you are past that line: cleaning is what will work, not more driving.
The car stays where it is for call-out DPF cleaning round Inverasdale
Most owners do not see coming this bit: the filter remains. The job happens with the DPF still fitted to the car — on your front, in a work car park, any place the motor can wait for a while.
Nothing is cleaned until other faults are cleared. That involves a check first: live data off the ECU, soot load by percent and by mass, and a check of the sensor feeds, glow plugs and related parts.
After that comes the clean itself: solution in through the car's own entry point, spreading inside the filter and loosening what a regeneration will not. A second pass is sometimes required on severely blocked filters.
Next, a regeneration drives off everything the clean lifted. Either it goes as a monitored drive out of Inverasdale, with you along, or it goes where the car waits and the live data is read after.
Finally the scan runs again — the change confirmed, the light cleared, anything still open noted. Both sets of figures arrive with you by email, so the numbers are kept.
The faults a DPF clean cannot cure
A filter choked with soot and ash is the one thing a clean answers. It will not help:
- a pressure sensor showing a blockage that is not there
- an EGR valve jammed open
- a problem in the AdBlue system
- worn glow plugs or injectors, so no regeneration ever starts
- oil passing through the filter from a faulty turbo
Which is why the scan goes first. When it proves to be one of those, you are told before any work starts rather than after you have paid for it.
Gutting the filter out is not a remedy: without a functioning DPF a vehicle cannot pass its MOT, and driving it is an offence. DPF renewal is the phrase people type in, though nothing is swapped — your existing filter is treated in place and returned into use. Two more worth noting.
Costs for DPF cleaning around Inverasdale
Treatment starts from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it covers the call-out, the booking, the scans and the advice.
Once we know what you run, and broadly what the filter will take, the number gets agreed over phone. A single price for every job would not be honest. Where you are matters as much as what you own: Inverasdale itself, Coast nearby, or further out within the IV postcode area.
A clean that will not do it is not a clean you pay for, and the diagnostic is what says so. Because the visit, the scan and the advice have happened, the call-out charge nonetheless stands.
Aftercare is covered by a 30-day warranty: should the light return within it, an engineer comes back to Inverasdale.

The vehicles we clean and the patch we reach round Inverasdale
The filter is cleaned on the vehicle on all of them: cars, panel vans and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, plant and construction machinery, agricultural machinery. Nothing is taken anywhere.
Inverasdale is seldom a special trip: engineers are working B8057 nearly every week, and the same run takes in Coast, Firemore and the places out past Mellon Charles. It is the diary, not the distance, that settles whether it is one day or the next, and coverage reaches UK-wide — so phone even from even further out around Highland.

Usual questions on DPF cleaning in Inverasdale
- Can I simply take it for a long drive?
- If you spot it early enough, and the vehicle is not in limp mode, sometimes. That means motorway speed for a sustained stretch, rather than a brief trip to Gairloch Co-op.
- About how long does it last?
- Expect typically around 2 hours — severely blocked filters sometimes take a second pass, which lengthens it.
- What does it run to around Inverasdale?
- Treatment opens from £299, and the call-out charge on top takes in the visit, the check and the advice. The vehicle and your address both move the figure, so we quote on the phone.
- Is it necessary for me to be around?
- A spot for the car to stand, for a couple of hours, is all that is needed. Not you. The regeneration can be carried out as a monitored drive if you would rather ride along.
- How soon can someone get to Inverasdale?
- Depending on the diary, often same-day or next-day is typical. One ring to 0303 330 1830 and you will learn what the IV area has free.
- The filter — does it leave the motor?
- On the on-site service, no: the filter is cleaned in place. Nor does getting a filter off nor putting one back on is work we do.
- The light reappears — then what?
- An engineer travels back out to Inverasdale — the 30-day warranty includes aftercare.
