Mobile DPF Cleaning in Illey and West Midlands
With on-site DPF cleaning, we travel to the car. Your motor will not be taken anywhere and the filter does not leave it. An engineer arrives at your door across Illey, treats the diesel particulate filter still on the vehicle and performs a DPF regeneration.
Nobody travels until the price is settled by the phone. The visit takes typically around 2 hours and the clean starts from £299.
The light is on already and the vehicle is down on power — that is how we generally find people, and precisely what this page covers.
The DPF light is on. What now?
First thing: it is not necessarily the DPF. Cleaning is not where a visit starts. A diagnostic is — several faults appear as the same light.
It counts what you do with the vehicle between now and the booking.
- A long steady run may still manage it, provided the light is amber and the vehicle goes normally. Costs nothing, so try that before calling.
- Once the motor is in limp mode, driving will not reach it. The window has shut.
- Get it looked at rather than driving it — diesel in the interior, or smoke on the throttle, has gone past the long-run stage.
Signs the motor has been giving you
Symptoms have normally been building for some time before the light ever shows. Late news, in other words:
- less power, above all pulling uphill
- you notice the revs never reach where they always went
- economy that is worse than before
- quietly, the stop/start bows out
- smoke under hard acceleration, or a diesel smell in there
None of that is conclusive on its own. Next to the light, it is a fair guess the filter is blocked.
Blocked diesel particulate filters round Illey, and the cause
Being a small village, Illey produces precisely the driving a DPF handles least well. Not one bit of it runs long enough or runs hot enough for the filter to see through a regeneration: the school run to Kitwell Primary School, Illey Lane barely moving at half eight, five minutes to Lidl, the hop to Old Hill. The soot that should clear collects instead.
Except when you have a routine cause to head out to the M5, under a mile from Illey, or out to Birmingham under 10 miles away, weeks pass without a long steady run. Geography is unhelpful.
Why limp mode prevents a DPF regeneration
It is self-defence: that is all limp mode means. A sustained drive works by setting off a regeneration, and that is exactly what limp mode rules out: power limited, revs kept low, no regeneration possible.
Running it up the motorway is the usual advice, and it works right up to a line. In limp mode you are the far side of that line: a clean is what will help, not more miles.
Where the motor stands is where the DPF is done in Illey
The filter does not budge. That is the part most drivers do not see coming: the job takes place with the DPF yet fixed to the car, on your drive, in a work car park, any place the vehicle can stand for a couple of hours.
First a diagnostic. Live ECU data, the soot load as a percentage and as a mass, the sensor readings, the glow plugs, the connected components — all of it read before a thing is touched.
Soot and ash that a regeneration alone will never shift are loosened next, by a cleaning solution fed through the entry point on that vehicle, which opens out inside the filter. Sometimes a filter is blocked enough to require doing twice.
A regeneration is next, driving off what the clean has lifted. Either it runs as a monitored drive out of Illey, with you along, or it goes where the car sits and the running data is verified afterwards.
Finally the check runs again — the change verified, the light reset, anything still showing noted. Both reports arrive with you by email, so the numbers are on record.
Where a clean is not the answer
Only one fault is cured by a clean: the filter clogged with ash and soot. It does little for:
- the wrong signal from a temperature or pressure sensor
- a jammed EGR valve
- AdBlue system problems
- glow plugs or injectors blocking the regeneration running in the first place
- oil passing through the filter from a worn turbo
Finding that out is the first scan's whole job. Proving to be one of them means finding out it before any work gets going, not after handing over anything.
Lastly, two things. A vehicle with the filter hollowed out cannot pass its MOT, and driving it is illegal, so that is no remedy. What gets searched for as DPF renewal swaps nothing: your filter is treated in place and goes back into service.
DPF cleaning prices around Illey
Every visit takes a call-out charge — coming out to you, making the booking, doing the scan and offering the advice. The clean itself begins from £299.
Once we know what you own, and roughly what the filter will need, the figure gets settled on the phone. A single price for every job would not be honest. The place you are tells as much as what you drive: Illey itself, Frankley Green next door, or farther out across the B postcode area.
Where the check says cleaning will not work, you are not billed for a clean. The call-out charge nonetheless stands, because the visit, the check and the advice have happened.
Aftercare is included by a 30-day warranty: should the light return within it, an engineer heads back to Illey.
Very fast and excellent service. Far cheaper than replacing whole DPF, and Dave was extremely professional and knowledgeable on the process and also cars generally!
Thomas was great, explained everything to me so I understood and got my car back on the road. Really informative and gave good advice.
Very pleased came out within hours of booking dpf clean engineer quickly sorted van back on site that evening all done in a day got a print out of all vehicle readings.
Vehicles we clean, and where we get to near Illey
The filter is treated where it sits on all of them: cars, vans of any size and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, construction and plant machinery, agricultural vehicles. Nothing is moved anywhere.
The same trip that keeps technicians on Illey Lane most weeks takes in Illey, Frankley Green, Frankley and the spots beyond Hunnington. Further out around West Midlands is even so worth phoning about — coverage is UK-wide, and it is the schedule rather than the distance that decides between one day and the next.
A word on Illey
Illey is a small locality in the West Midlands, situated approximately 6 miles southwest of Birmingham. Illey sits at an elevation of around 166 metres, in a generally flat area of the region. Illey is characterized by a predominance of flat housing and is close to nearby places such as Lower Illey and Frankley Green.
What Illey drivers wonder about DPF cleaning
- Is a long drive enough alone?
- If you catch it early, and the car is not in limp mode, sometimes. It wants a steady run at motorway speed, not fifteen minutes or so to Lidl and back.
- How long does the visit last?
- It is typically around 2 hours. A badly loaded filter can need a second clean, which lengthens that.
- Across Illey, what does it come to?
- A clean begins from £299, and the call-out charge on top takes in the visit, the check and the advice. We settle it on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both shift the price.
- Have I need to be there?
- Somewhere for the vehicle to sit, for a couple of hours, is all that is required. Not you. If you would sooner come along, the regeneration can be done as a monitored drive instead.
- When can someone get to Illey?
- You are in for often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is now in the diary. Phone 0303 330 1830 what is free across the B area.
- Is the filter lifted off the vehicle?
- On the call-out service, no: the filter is treated in place. We never get filters off or put them back on, whichever way.
- And if the light returns?
- An engineer comes back out to Illey — the 30-day warranty covers aftercare.
