- less power, particularly climbing uphill
- the revs no longer rise the way they once did
- the fuel economy is down
- a stop/start that has silently bowed out
- diesel in the cabin, or smoke on the way up through the gearbox
Alone, none of that is proof. It is a fair guess the filter is loaded once the light is there too.
