The light is late news. By the time it appears, the symptoms have usually been mounting for some time:
- less power, especially pulling uphill
- the revs no longer rise the way they once did
- fuel use that is worse than it used to be
- stop/start quietly bowing out
- a diesel smell in the cabin, or smoke under the throttle
Any one of those, taken singly, is not evidence. With the light alongside them, the filter is a fair assumption.
Why diesel particulate filters block around Horstead
