Horsenden, Buckinghamshire: Mobile DPF Cleaning
Treating the DPF is done at the vehicle, not at a workshop. The fitter turns up at your place over in Horsenden and sets up. The diesel particulate filter is cleaned fitted to the car, a DPF regeneration runs after it, and you keep the filter you came with.
Nobody travels until the figure is settled over the phone. The visit runs typically around 2 hours and the clean begins from £299.
If the light is showing and the vehicle is down on power, this page is for you. That is how most owners end up here.
DPF light on? What to do
The filter is not necessarily what is at fault, and that leads. Cleaning is not where a visit starts. A diagnostic is — plenty of faults show up as the same light.
Second thing: how you run it between now and then matters.
- Amber light, vehicle still driving normally — a long steady run can still shift it alone. Costs zero, and worth a try before you ring anything.
- A drive will not shift it now — limp mode means that window has already shut.
- A diesel smell in the car, or black smoke under hard acceleration, is the point to stop arranging long drives and ring.
What the car has been telling you
The light is belated news. By the time it appears, the symptoms have normally been building for weeks:
- power tailing off, especially going uphill
- you see the revs fall short of where they once went
- consumption that is worse than it used to be
- silently, the stop/start gives up
- a diesel smell in the interior, or smoke under the throttle
Any one of those, taken by itself, is not proof. Alongside the light beside them, the filter is a fair guess.
Choked diesel particulate filters near Horsenden, and the cause
Horsenden is a rural hamlet, and the day-to-day driving that goes with one is the worst kind for a DPF. A regeneration wants the time and heat, and sees not much: not on the school run to Princes Risborough Primary School, not on Horsenden Lane at the morning rush, not on ten minutes to Co-op Food, and not on the hop to Princes Risborough. The soot load collects rather than clearing.
Neither is far from Horsenden: under 5 miles to the M40, under 25 miles to Oxford. Neither is on the way to much most weeks, though, so the run that would clear a filter never happens.
DPF regeneration, and the point limp mode stops it
It is self-preservation: that is all limp mode means. With pulling power capped and the revs pinned, the regeneration the filter needs cannot run at all. That matters, because triggering one is just what a sustained run does.
Sound advice, that motorway run — until the day it is not. In limp mode you are the far side of that point: a clean is what will do it, not more miles.
Where the vehicle stands is where the DPF is done across Horsenden
The filter does not leave it. That is the part most people do not expect: the job takes place with the DPF even now bolted to the motor, on your front, in a work car park, any place the motor can sit for a couple of hours.
The ECU is taken first, showing soot load by proportion and by actual weight, along with a check of sensor readings, glow plugs and associated hardware, so nothing is started while another fault is still possible.
Soot and ash that a regeneration by itself will never shift are loosened after that, by a cleaning solution fed through the entry point on that car, which spreads inside the filter. Severely clogged filters sometimes take a second pass.
Then a regeneration, to clear what the clean has lifted. Either it is done as a monitored drive out of Horsenden, with you along, or it runs where the car waits and the real-time data is checked once done.
Both sets of figures go over by email, so the figures from either end are on record. The second check is what verifies the change, puts out the light and lists whatever is still outstanding.
When a DPF clean is not the fix
Cleaning fixes one thing: a filter blocked with soot and ash. It does no good for:
- the wrong figure from a temperature sensor
- an EGR valve stuck open
- an AdBlue system problem
- faulty glow plugs or injectors, so no regeneration ever starts
- the turbo pushing oil into the filter
Finding that out is the first check's purpose. Transpiring to be one of them means hearing it before any work begins, not after settling up a penny.
DPF renewal is what people look up, but no part is replaced: the filter you own is treated where it sits and sent back into service. Nor is having it cut out a solution, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes unlawful. Two more things worth bearing in mind.
The figure for DPF cleaning across Horsenden
The treatment starts from £299. A call-out charge is added to every visit, and pays for the call-out itself, the booking, the scan and the advice that goes with it.
No flat rate would be straight, so the number is fixed over the phone once we are told the vehicle and what the filter is likely to need. What you own and where you are both change it: Horsenden itself, across at Saunderton, or further out in the HP postcode area.
If the scan writes a clean out, there is no charge to pay for it. The call-out charge even so stands, because the visit, the check and the advice have happened.
Aftercare is taken in by a 30-day warranty: should the light come back within it, an engineer returns to Horsenden.
Very fast and excellent service. Far cheaper than replacing whole DPF, and Dave was extremely professional and knowledgeable on the process and also cars generally!
I would like to thank dpf for a good and prompt service. Especially igor who came across very professional and polite while doing the job. He also checked everything before he left to see if there were any other issues. We'll done igor highly recommended.
What a fantastic company to deal with, so professional from start to finish and big credit to Dave. Thank you once again and definitely I gonna use your service in the future.
What we clean, and how far we go round Horsenden
Private cars, panel vans and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, plant machinery, farm vehicles — the one call-out service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is done where it sits rather than taken anywhere.
Week in week out there is by then someone on Horsenden Lane, so Horsenden rarely means a detour, and Saunderton, Alscot and the villages past Princes Risborough are on the way. Ring anyway from further out through Buckinghamshire. Coverage reaches UK-wide, and the slot you get comes down to the diary rather than how far away you are.

Things Horsenden drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Can I simply take it for a long drive?
- It might, provided you spot it in time and limp mode has not arrived. Fifteen minutes to Co-op Food and back will not manage it; motorway speed, kept for some time, will.
- Does the visit run long?
- Allow typically around 2 hours — severely loaded filters sometimes take a second pass, which lengthens it.
- Price across Horsenden — what is it?
- A clean opens from £299, and the call-out charge on top pays for the visit, the diagnostic and the advice. Both the vehicle and where you are change it, which is why pricing goes by phone.
- Do I have to be around?
- No. The motor needs space to sit for a couple of hours; you need not stand with it. The regeneration can be carried out as a supervised drive if you would sooner come along.
- When can someone get to Horsenden?
- That hangs on the diary, but it is often same-day or next-day. One call to 0303 330 1830 and you will hear what the HP area has free.
- Is the filter lifted off the vehicle?
- It is treated where it stands, on the mobile service. That work — a filter off, a filter back on — is not work we do.
- And if the light comes back?
- An engineer heads back out to Horsenden — the 30-day warranty covers aftercare.
