Mobile DPF Cleaning across Hornick and Cornwall

Treating the DPF takes place at the vehicle, not at a garage. The fitter turns up at your place in Hornick and starts. The diesel particulate filter is cleared still on the car, a DPF regeneration comes next, and you hold on to the filter you started with.

Nobody leaves until the figure is fixed over the phone. The visit takes typically around 2 hours and the clean opens from £299.

Most people find us with the light showing, and the motor down on power. That is the position this page is aimed at.

What to try when the DPF light comes on

First thing: it is not automatically the unit. A clean is not where a visit opens. A diagnostic is — plenty of faults show up as the same warning.

It matters what you get with the vehicle between now and the booking.

  • Amber light, motor still driving normally — a long steady run can even now shift it by itself. Costs zero, and worth attempting before you book anything.
  • That window has shut once the motor has slipped into limp mode. Motoring will not do it now.
  • Stop booking long drives and get it seen to if the car stinks of diesel or there is black smoke when you accelerate.

What the motor has been telling you

Symptoms have normally been building for weeks before the light even shows. Last news, in other words:

  • falling off on power, particularly uphill
  • you notice the revs never reach where they always went
  • consumption that is worse than it was
  • silently, the stop/start gives up
  • the interior stinking of diesel, or smoke when you accelerate

Alone, none of that is conclusive. Alongside the light beside them, the filter is a fair guess.

The reason diesel particulate filters clog near Hornick

Hornick is a rural village, and the driving that goes with one is the poorest kind for a DPF. The school run to Foxhole Learning Academy, Coombe Road at a crawl at the morning rush, a few minutes to Co-op Food, the hop to St Austell — not one bit of it runs long enough or is hot enough for the filter to see through a regeneration. Instead of burning off, the soot collects.

The map does not assist either. The M5 is over 50 miles from Hornick and Truro is under 15 miles away, so unless something pulls you out that way routinely, entire weeks go by without the long unbroken run that would scour the filter alone.

Why limp mode prevents a DPF regeneration

The vehicle is protecting itself, which is what limp mode is. A long drive works by setting off a regeneration, and that is exactly what limp mode blocks: power capped, revs kept low, no regeneration available.

Good advice, that motorway run — up until the day it is not. The filter requires a clean rather than more driving once the vehicle has dropped into limp mode.

The motor stays put for call-out DPF cleaning round Hornick

Most owners do not anticipate this bit: the filter stays put. The job happens with the DPF yet fitted to the vehicle — on your driveway, in a work car park, any place the motor can wait for a couple of hours.

Nothing is started until other faults are cleared. That means a diagnostic first: running data off the ECU, soot load by percent and by mass, and a review of the sensors, glow plugs and connected parts.

A cleaning fluid next is fed in through the entry point on that vehicle, opening out inside the filter to free soot and ash a regeneration by itself will never move. Where the filter is badly loaded, plan on a second pass.

A regeneration follows, driving off what the clean has lifted. Either it goes as a monitored drive out of Hornick, with you present, or it runs where the car waits and the running data is read after.

Then a second diagnostic, verifying the change, putting out the warning light and noting anything still logged. Both read-outs are emailed, so the before and after figures are kept.

What a DPF clean will not fix

A filter blocked with soot and ash is the one thing a clean fixes. It will not reach:

  • the wrong signal from a temperature sensor
  • an EGR valve held open
  • AdBlue system faults
  • injectors or glow plugs that stop a regeneration running whatsoever
  • turbo failure, with oil reaching the filter

Which is why the diagnostic goes first. If one of those is the fault, you hear about it in advance rather than once the money has changed hands for good.

Cutting the filter out is not a solution: without a working DPF a vehicle will fail its MOT, and driving it is illegal. DPF renewal is the wording people type in, though nothing is replaced — your own filter is treated in place and returned into use. Two more worth noting.

What DPF cleaning runs to across Hornick

Any visit takes a call-out charge — getting to you, taking the booking, running the scan and offering the advice. The clean itself begins from £299.

The number is agreed on the phone, once we are told the vehicle and what the filter is apt to need. No flat rate could be straight. What you own and where you are both change it: Hornick itself, over at Lanjeth, or further out across the PL postcode area.

You are not charged for a clean that the diagnostic says will not work. Because the visit, the check and the advice have happened, the call-out charge nonetheless holds.

Aftercare is taken in by a 30-day warranty: should the light reappear within it, an engineer heads back to Hornick.

The vehicles we clean and the ground we cover round Hornick

Whatever it is — estate, panel van, light commercial, lorry, plant, construction machinery, agricultural vehicle — the very same call-out service holds, and the filter never departs it.

Nearly every week there is by then someone on Coombe Road, so Hornick rarely means a special trip, and Lanjeth, Carpalla and the spots past High Street come with it. Coverage is UK-wide, so farther out around Cornwall is still worth a call, and what picks between today and tomorrow is the diary rather than the distance.

What Hornick drivers wonder about DPF cleaning

Does a long run shift it?
Early enough, and with the car out of limp mode, yes — sometimes. Ten minutes to Co-op Food and back will not manage it; motorway speed, sustained for a while, will.
How long does the visit last?
It is typically around 2 hours. A severely loaded filter can require a second clean, which adds to that.
What does it come to across Hornick?
A clean begins from £299, and the call-out charge on top pays for the visit, the diagnostic and the advice. Both the vehicle and where you are change it, which is why settling it happens by phone.
Must I be present in person?
No. The car requires somewhere to stand for a couple of hours; nobody expects you to stand with it. Ride along if you prefer, and the regeneration is done as a watched drive.
Can someone come to Hornick soon?
It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is currently in the calendar. Call 0303 330 1830 and we will tell you what is available across the PL area.
The filter — does it leave the car?
It is treated where it is, on the call-out service. That job — a filter off, a filter back on — is not a job we do.
The light reappears — then what?
Taken in by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer coming back to Hornick.
