Mobile DPF Cleaning covering Hopsfield, Dorset

With call-out DPF cleaning, we come to the car. The engineer turns up at your address across Hopsfield and starts. The diesel particulate filter is treated still on the car, a DPF regeneration comes next, and you end up with the filter you came with.

You'll be given a figure by phone before anyone goes, the clean starting from £299, and the visit taking typically around 2 hours.

The light is already on and the vehicle is low on power — that is how we usually come across people, and precisely what this page deals with.

The DPF light is on. What now?

Not the filter, necessarily. Main thing to get straight. A check happens before any cleaning, because that same dashboard light has plenty of candidate faults behind it.

How the vehicle is handled in the meantime matters too.

  • Worth a go before you call anything: amber light, vehicle driving normally, just one steady run, no outlay.
  • A drive will not shift it now — limp mode means that window has now shut.
  • Stop arranging long drives and get it checked if the cabin reeks of diesel or there is black smoke when you press on.

Signs the motor has been showing you

The light is late news. By the time it shows, the symptoms have generally been growing for a while:

  • power tailing off, above all climbing uphill
  • you see the revs fall short of where they always went
  • fuel consumption going worse
  • a stop/start that has silently packed in
  • a diesel smell in the interior, or smoke under acceleration

Any one of those, taken alone, is not conclusive. It is a fair guess the filter is blocked once the light is there too.

The explanation diesel particulate filters block round Hopsfield

For a DPF, the least kind motoring is the type you find across a small village such as Hopsfield. A regeneration wants long enough and heat, and gets none: not on the school run to Milborne St Andrew First School, not on Hopsfield at half eight, not on a few minutes to Morrisons, and not on the run to Moreton (Dorset). The soot banks up rather than clearing.

Where you sit does not help either. The M27 is under 50 miles from Hopsfield and Salisbury is under 50 miles away, so unless something carries you out that way often, entire weeks go by without the long steady run that might scour the filter by itself.

The point a DPF regeneration can no longer run

It is self-preservation: that is all limp mode amounts to. The whole problem is that a proper drive works by setting off a regeneration, and under limp mode the revs will not pull and power is limited.

The common advice — run it up the motorway — is sensible, until it is not. Once the motor is in limp mode you are the far side of that point, and the filter wants a clean rather than road work.

DPF cleaning at the motor across Hopsfield

Nothing leaves the motor. That surprises people. The DPF remains bolted where it is and the work happens around it, on a driveway, in a works car park, anywhere it can wait for two hours or so.

Nothing is cleaned until other faults are eliminated. That involves a diagnostic first: running data off the ECU, soot load by percent and by mass, and a check of the sensor readings, glow plugs and related hardware.

Then comes the clean itself: a cleaning solution in through the motor's own access point, spreading inside the filter and lifting what a regeneration never can. Where the filter is heavily blocked, allow for a second pass.

Then a regeneration, to drive off what the clean has lifted. Come with the vehicle and it is done as a monitored drive out of Hopsfield. Leave it and the regeneration runs statically, with running data read once it is done.

Finally the scan runs again — the change confirmed, the light cleared, anything still outstanding noted. Both sets of figures come to you by email, so the numbers are recorded.

The failures a DPF clean cannot answer

Only one fault is cured by a clean: the filter clogged with ash and soot. It does no good for:

  • sensors, pressure, showing a blockage that is not real
  • an EGR valve stuck open
  • AdBlue system problems
  • worn glow plugs or injectors, so no regeneration ever starts
  • turbo failure, with oil entering the filter

That is what the first diagnostic is for. If it is found to be one of those, you are warned before any work starts rather than after you have settled up a penny.

Gutting the filter out is not a fix: without a serviceable DPF a vehicle will fail its MOT, and driving it is illegal. DPF renewal is the term people type in, though nothing is swapped — your existing filter is cleaned in place and sent back into use. Two more worth knowing.

Prices for DPF cleaning in Hopsfield

A call-out charge applies whatever follows, and covers the visit, the booking fee, the check and the advice offered. Cleaning itself starts from £299.

Naming a flat rate would not be honest. We settle it by phone, once the motor and its expected needs are known. The motor shifts it, and so does the postcode — Hopsfield, Tolpuddle, or a spot farther out in the DT postcode area.

You are not charged for a clean that the scan says will not help. Because the visit, the scan and the advice have been done, the call-out charge even so applies.

Aftercare is covered by a 30-day warranty: should the light return within it, an engineer heads back to Hopsfield.

DPF cleaning performed at a vehicle in Hopsfield

Bas was very knowledgeable and explained everything that was happening. He was very thorough. I would be happy to recommend DPF fixer to anyone experiencing the issues I was, especially when the cost of a new filter runs into the thousands of pounds.

Neil H.

Very happy with the DPF clean car was well clogged up and not running correctly but now running perfectly, very happy.

Darren T.

Keiran was friendly and professional, he fixed the problem and offered advice on how to avoid the issue in the future. We were very pleased with the work.

The vehicles we clean and the ground we cover around Hopsfield

Cars, vans and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, plant machinery, farm vehicles — a single call-out service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is done where it sits rather than carried anywhere.

Engineers are along Hopsfield most weeks, so Hopsfield is seldom a journey of its own, and the same run covers Tolpuddle, Lower Street and the spots out past Milborne St Andrew. It is the schedule, not the distance, that picks whether it is this day or the next, and coverage extends UK-wide — so call even from further out through Dorset.

Questions Hopsfield drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Does a long run sort it?
Sometimes, if you catch it early enough and the motor has not dropped into limp mode. Fifteen minutes to Morrisons and back will not do it; motorway speed, sustained for a while, will.
The visit takes how long?
Count on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean adding to that where the filter is heavily clogged.
In Hopsfield, what does it run to?
It opens from £299, plus the call-out charge covering the visit, the check and the advice. We settle it on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both change the price.
Have I need to be there?
No. The vehicle needs a spot to sit for a couple of hours; nobody expects you to stand with it. Travel along if you prefer, and the regeneration is done as a monitored drive.
When can someone come to Hopsfield?
It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is now in the diary. One call to 0303 330 1830 and you will learn what the DT area has free.
Is the filter lifted off the car?
Done where it sits, on this service, so no. Neither taking a filter off nor bolting one back on is work we do.
The light comes back — then what?
Aftercare comes inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer returning to Hopsfield.
