Mobile DPF Cleaning in Hoop and Monmouthshire
The vehicle stays where it is — call-out DPF cleaning travels to it. No body shop, no filter going anywhere. A technician comes to your door in Hoop, treats the diesel particulate filter as it sits, performs a DPF regeneration, and you end up with the filter you started with.
Nobody sets off until the number is settled by the phone. The visit runs typically around 2 hours and the clean starts from £299.
Most people find us with the light on already, and the motor short of power. That is exactly what this page is written for.
DPF light on? What comes next
The filter is not necessarily what is to blame, and that comes first. That light can arise from a number of faults, not only one, so the visit opens with a check and not with treatment.
It tells what you manage with the vehicle between now and the booking.
- Worth a try before you book anything: amber light, vehicle driving fine, just one even run, no outlay.
- That window has shut once the vehicle has dropped into limp mode. Motoring will not get there now.
- Diesel smell in the interior, or black smoke under the throttle — stop arranging long drives and get it seen to.
Before the light, what the motor was telling you
Belated news, the light. The symptoms generally build for weeks before it arrives:
- power falling off, particularly climbing uphill
- an engine whose revs will not climb as before
- worse fuel use
- stop/start quietly giving up
- smoke under hard acceleration, or a diesel smell in the car
By itself, none of that is conclusive. The light with them suggests a full filter.
The reason diesel particulate filters clog near Hoop
For a DPF, the poorest motoring is the kind you find across a small village such as Hoop. Run through a normal week: Redbrook Church of England Primary School and home, Cabin Lane - no through road at a crawl before half nine, a short hop to Lidl, a hop to Lydney. None of it there lasts long enough or is hot enough to see through a regeneration. Instead of clearing, the soot builds up.
Neither is distant from Hoop: under 10 miles to the M48, under 25 miles to Newport. Neither is on the way to much most weeks, though, so the drive that would empty a filter never happens.
Why limp mode blocks a DPF regeneration
The vehicle is defending itself, which is what limp mode is. Pulling power is limited, the revs will not climb, and the regeneration the filter requires can not run — which is the entire catch, because a proper drive works by starting that regeneration.
So the usual advice to take it up the motorway is sensible advice, right until the day it is not. The filter needs treatment rather than driving once the car has gone into limp mode.
Where the motor stands is where the DPF is treated across Hoop
Most owners do not anticipate this detail: the filter stays on. The job takes place with the DPF even now fixed to the vehicle — on your drive, in a work car park, any place the motor can wait for a couple of hours.
Nothing is touched until other faults are ruled out. That requires a diagnostic first: live data off the ECU, soot load by proportion and by actual weight, and a look over of the sensor feeds, glow plugs and related parts.
Then the clean. A solution is injected through the entry point on that car and expands inside the filter, lifting the soot and ash a regeneration alone will never move. A second pass is sometimes required on severely clogged filters.
A regeneration comes next, clearing what the clean has lifted. If you are there, that is run as a monitored drive out of Hoop; if not, statically where the vehicle stands, with the running data read once done.
Finally the scan runs again — the change confirmed, the light cleared, anything still open written down. Both read-outs reach you by email, so the numbers are on record.
When a DPF clean is not the solution
A filter choked with soot and ash is the one thing cleaning answers. It will not reach:
- a temperature or pressure sensor reporting a restriction that is not there
- the EGR valve stuck open
- a failure in the AdBlue system
- a regeneration that never completes, because of glow plugs or injectors
- oil working through the filter from a failing turbo
The first diagnostic is there for just that. You are told before any work begins, not after you have settled up, should it turns out to be one of those.
Lastly, two things. A vehicle with the filter gutted will fail its MOT, and driving it is an offence, so that is no fix. What gets searched for as DPF renewal swaps nothing: your existing filter is cleared in place and goes back into service.
Prices for DPF cleaning across Hoop
Cleaning starts from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it takes in the call-out, the booking, the scans and the advice.
No flat rate would be honest, so the figure is fixed over the phone once we are told the vehicle and what the filter is likely to need. What you drive and where you are both shift it: Hoop itself, over at Tre-gagle, or further out across the NP postcode area.
If the scan writes cleaning out, there is no charge to pay for it. What nonetheless applies is the call-out charge, since the visit was made, the scan was run and the advice was passed on.
A 30-day warranty includes aftercare on the clean, and that includes an engineer heading back out to Hoop if the light reappears inside the period.
This morning, Ashley arrived to perform DPF full clean, very informative, and personable, resolved issue thoroughly and advised preventative measures, would use again.
The two who came to fix my car were absolutely wonderful. They did a first class job were friendly and spoke to about what they were going to do. First class.
Can not smile wide enough!! Nic came on time and my car is driving brand new again! He was so knowledgeable, friendly and outstanding in getting the DPF unblocked. Nic is a huge asset to your company! He should be highly commended!
Where we travel around Hoop, and what we clean
The filter is cleaned in place on all of them: cars and estates, vans and light commercials, HGVs, plant machinery, agricultural machinery. Nothing is carried anywhere.
Hoop is hardly ever a special trip: engineers are out on Cabin Lane - no through road nearly every week, and the same run takes in Tre-gagle, The Narth and the places out past Pen-twyn. It is the schedule, not the distance, that decides whether it is this day or the next, and coverage reaches UK-wide — so phone even from even further out around Monmouthshire.
Hoop itself
Hoop is a small locality in Monmouthshire, situated on the banks of a river in south-east Wales. Hoop sits at an elevation of 202 metres, with detached housing being the predominant type of accommodation in the area. Hoop is located near other small places such as Newmills, Tre-gagle, and The Narth, and is approximately 17.5 miles from the city of Newport.
Common questions on DPF cleaning around Hoop
- Will a long drive shift it?
- Sometimes, if you get it early enough and the car has not slipped into limp mode. That means motorway speed for a sustained spell, rather than a brief trip to Lidl.
- How long does the visit run?
- Bank on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean lengthening that where the filter is heavily clogged.
- The cost in Hoop — what is it?
- Starting from £299, with a charge for travelling that takes in the scan and advice on what to do next. Both the vehicle and where you are change it, which is why settling it is done by phone.
- Have I got to be there?
- Somewhere for the vehicle to wait, for a couple of hours, is all that is required. Not you. If you would rather come along, the regeneration can be done as a monitored drive instead.
- Can someone come to Hoop soon?
- It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is currently in the schedule. Call 0303 330 1830 and you will hear what is open across the NP area.
- The filter — does it come off the vehicle?
- Cleaned where it sits, on this service, so no. Lifting a filter off or fitting one back on count as anything work we do whichever way.
- What if the light reappears?
- Aftercare comes inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer coming back to Hoop.
