Hooke, Dorset: Mobile DPF Cleaning

The car sits put — mobile DPF cleaning travels to it. Your vehicle isn't taken off and the filter doesn't budge. A technician turns up at your address over in Hooke, treats the diesel particulate filter still on the motor and carries out a DPF regeneration.

You'll be given a number by phone before anyone leaves, the clean opening from £299, and the visit running typically around 2 hours.

The light is on already and the motor is low on power — that is how we generally come across people, and what this page covers.

The DPF light is on. What then?

Not the DPF, automatically. Opening thing to say. A check comes before the treatment, because that same dash light has plenty of likely faults behind it.

It matters what you do with the motor between now and the booking.

  • Amber light, motor still driving normally — a long even run can even now shift it alone. Costs nothing, and worth trying before you ring anything.
  • Vehicle already dropped into limp mode — that window has shut. A drive will not reach it now.
  • Get it looked at rather than driving it — diesel in the cabin, or smoke on the throttle, has gone beyond the long-run stage.

The motor has been telling you already

The light is last news. By the time it arrives, the symptoms have generally been building for weeks:

  • less power, particularly climbing uphill
  • an engine whose revs will not rise as they should
  • the fuel economy is worse
  • stop/start silently bowing out
  • smoke under acceleration, or a diesel smell in there

None of that is proof alone. With the light, it is a fair assumption the filter is blocked.

The cause diesel particulate filters block around Hooke

Hooke is a rural village, and the driving that goes with one is the least kind type for a DPF. Not one bit of it goes on long enough or runs hot enough for the filter to see through a regeneration: the school run to Powerstock Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School, Rampisham Hill standing at the morning rush, ten minutes to Co-op Food, the dash to Maiden Newton. The unburnt soot banks up rather than burning off.

Unless you have a routine need to drive out to the M5, under 25 miles from Hooke, or out to Wells under 50 miles away, weeks slip past without a long steady run. Geography is against you.

DPF regeneration, and the moment limp mode kills it

Limp mode is the car protecting itself. A sustained drive works by setting off a regeneration, and that is exactly what limp mode prevents: power capped, revs kept low, no regeneration on offer.

Sound advice, that motorway run — until the day it is not. Once the vehicle is in limp mode you are past that line, and the filter needs treatment rather than more driving.

DPF cleaning at the car round Hooke

Nothing comes off the car. That surprises people. The DPF sits bolted where it is and the work goes on around it, on a drive, in a works car park, any place it can stand for a couple of hours.

Nothing is cleaned until other faults are ruled out. That involves a scan first: live data off the ECU, soot load by percent and by actual weight, and a check of the sensor feeds, glow plugs and connected hardware.

A cleaning solution next is fed in through the access port on that motor, expanding inside the filter to lift soot and ash a regeneration alone will never shift. Where the filter is badly loaded, plan on a second pass.

A regeneration comes next, clearing what the clean has lifted. That is a monitored drive out of Hooke if you are present, or a static regeneration where the car waits, with the live data checked once done.

Both sets of figures come through by email, so the figures from either end are kept. The second check is what confirms the change, puts out the light and logs whatever is still outstanding.

The problems a DPF clean cannot fix

Only one fault is fixed by a clean: the filter blocked with ash and soot. It does no good for:

  • a pressure or temperature sensor showing a restriction that is not there
  • an EGR valve stuck open
  • an AdBlue system problem
  • glow plugs or injectors preventing the regeneration running in the first place
  • oil coming through the filter from a worn turbo

Finding that out is the first check's purpose. You are warned before all work gets going, not after you have handed over, should it turns out to be one of those.

DPF renewal is what people look up, but no part is replaced: the filter you have is treated where it sits and put back to work. Nor is having it cut out a remedy, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes an offence. Two more things worth knowing.

What DPF cleaning runs to around Hooke

Every visit attracts a call-out charge — coming out to you, taking the booking, running the scan and offering the advice. The clean itself starts from £299.

No single flat rate would be straight, so the figure is agreed over the phone once we are told the vehicle and what the filter is apt to need. The car moves it, and so does the address — Hooke, Higher Kingcombe, or anywhere otherwise out in the DT postcode area.

You are not billed for cleaning that the diagnostic says will not work. Because the visit, the scan and the advice have taken place, the call-out charge even so stands.

The work comes with a 30-day warranty including aftercare, including an engineer travelling back out to Hooke if the light reappears inside that window.

Excellent service from Gareth at DPF fixer. Very thorough, gave full and clear explanation of problem, extremely helpful. Worth every penny for peace of mind and sorting problem.

The vehicles we clean and the ground we reach round Hooke

Private cars, vans of any size and light commercials, HGVs, plant and construction machinery, agricultural vehicles — a single mobile service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is done where it sits rather than carried anywhere.

The same round that has engineers on Rampisham Hill most weeks picks up Hooke, Higher Kingcombe, North Poorton and the spots beyond Toller Porcorum. Farther out across Dorset is nonetheless worth phoning about — coverage runs UK-wide, and it is the diary rather than the distance that settles between today and tomorrow.

Things Hooke drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Is a long drive enough alone?
It can, provided you get it early and limp mode has not arrived. Ten minutes to Co-op Food and back will not do it; motorway speed, held for some time, will.
How long does the visit take?
Plan on typically around 2 hours — severely loaded filters sometimes require a second pass, which adds to it.
How much does it cost across Hooke?
A clean begins from £299, and the call-out charge on top takes in the visit, the check and the advice. The vehicle and your address both shift the price, so we price on the phone.
Is it needed for me to be present?
The vehicle requires a space for two hours or so. Nobody expects you to be in it. Wanting to be there is fine: the regeneration then goes out on the road, monitored.
Getting to Hooke — how soon?
You are in for often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is currently in the schedule. Phone 0303 330 1830 what is available across the DT area.
The filter — does it leave the motor?
It is done where it is, on the mobile service. Neither taking a filter off nor bolting one back on is work we do.
The light comes back — then what?
The 30-day warranty takes in aftercare, including an engineer coming back to Hooke.
