Holme, Bedfordshire: Mobile DPF Cleaning
With on-site DPF cleaning, we drive out to the car. A technician arrives at your door across Holme, cleans the diesel particulate filter while it is fitted to the motor, performs a DPF regeneration, and you hold on to the filter you arrived with.
Nobody leaves until the price is fixed over the phone. The visit runs typically around 2 hours and the clean opens from £299.
Most owners find us with the light already on, and the motor low on power. That is the situation this page is aimed at.
What to do when the DPF light comes on
Not the DPF, necessarily. Opening thing to say. A scan comes before the work, because that same panel light has several possible faults behind it.
The use you get in the meantime tells. That is the second thing.
- Car still driving fine on an amber light — have a go at a long steady run first. It costs nothing at all and regularly clears the filter without assistance.
- Vehicle already dropped into limp mode — that window has shut. A drive will not shift it now.
- Stop planning long drives and get it checked if the car smells of diesel or there is black smoke when you pull away.
The car has been showing you already
The light is late news. By the time it arrives, the symptoms have normally been mounting for some time:
- falling off on power, especially uphill
- an engine whose revs will not rise as before
- worse fuel consumption
- stop/start quietly giving up
- the interior stinking of diesel, or smoke when you press on
None of that is proof alone. With the light, it is a fair guess the filter is full.
Choked diesel particulate filters around Holme, and the why
Holme is a rural hamlet, and the driving that goes with one is the poorest type for a DPF. Run through a normal week: Langford Village Academy and back, Langford Road at a standstill before half nine, a quick trip to Aldi, a run to Biggleswade. Not much there lasts long enough or runs hot enough to complete a regeneration. The soot collects rather than clearing.
Geography does not oblige either. The A1(M) is under 5 miles from Holme and Cambridge is under 25 miles away, so unless something takes you out that way regularly, whole weeks pass without the sustained run that would empty the filter alone.
Why limp mode prevents a DPF regeneration
It is self-preservation: that is all limp mode amounts to. The whole problem is that a proper drive works by setting off a regeneration, and once in limp mode the revs will not climb and power is held down.
The standard advice — get it up the motorway — is good, until it is not. In limp mode you are beyond that line: cleaning is what will help, not more road work.
Call-out DPF cleaning where the vehicle stands in Holme
On your driveway, in a work car park, anywhere the vehicle can wait for a few hours: the job happens with the filter even now fixed on, which is the detail most people do not expect.
First a check. Real-time ECU data, the soot load as a proportion and as a mass, the sensor readings, the glow plugs, the associated hardware — all of it taken before any of it is cleaned.
A cleaning fluid then goes in through the access port on that car, expanding inside the filter to loosen soot and ash a regeneration alone will never budge. Heavily loaded filters sometimes require a second pass.
Next, a regeneration drives off everything the clean loosened. Either it is done as a monitored drive out of Holme, with you along, or it runs where the vehicle stands and the live data is read once done.
Then a second scan, proving the change, putting out the warning light and noting anything still logged. Both sets of figures are sent over, so the before and after figures are on record.
The problems a DPF clean cannot cure
Treatment cures one thing: a filter blocked with soot and ash. It does no good for:
- a pressure sensor flagging a block that is not there
- EGR valves that jam open
- the AdBlue system going wrong
- injectors or glow plugs that stop a regeneration completing in the first place
- oil working through the filter from a worn turbo
The first diagnostic is there for precisely that. You are let know before any work gets going, not after you have paid, if it turns out to be one of those.
Cutting the filter out is not a fix: without a functioning DPF a vehicle will fail its MOT, and driving it is illegal. DPF renewal is the term people look up, though nothing is exchanged — your original filter is cleaned in place and sent back into use. Two more worth noting.
The price of DPF cleaning around Holme
The cleaning opens from £299. A call-out charge applies to every visit, and pays for the call-out itself, the booking, the diagnostic and the advice that follows.
Publishing a flat rate would not be straight. We fix it over phone, once the motor and its expected needs are known. Whereabouts you are tells as much as what you run: Holme itself, Broom nearby, or otherwise out within the SG postcode area.
You are not asked to pay for cleaning that the scan says will not do it. Because the visit, the diagnostic and the advice have happened, the call-out charge still holds.
The job carries a 30-day warranty taking in aftercare, including an engineer coming back out to Holme if the light comes back inside that time.
Ashley at DPF fixer did a first class job cleaning my Jaguar DPF, Very efficient, informative, knowledgeable. More than happy with the service I received today, would recommend.
Couldn't be happier with the service I received. Great communication and friendly knowledgeable staff. Would recommend and use again in the future.
Turned up as arranged and investigated the problem including running diagnostics. Turns out dpf was ok. Very helpful in pin pointing the problem.
Vehicles we clean, and where we get to near Holme
Cars and estates, vans of any size and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, construction and plant machinery, agricultural machinery — one mobile service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is treated in place rather than taken anywhere.
Week in week out there is already someone on Langford Road, so Holme seldom means a special trip, and Broom, Biggleswade and the places past Langford are on the way. It is the diary, not the distance, that settles whether it is today or tomorrow, and coverage extends UK-wide — so phone anyway from farther out across Bedfordshire.

Common questions on DPF cleaning in Holme
- Does a long run clear it?
- If you get it early enough, and the vehicle is not in limp mode, sometimes. It wants a steady run at motorway speed, not fifteen minutes or so to Aldi and back.
- How long does the visit take?
- It is typically around 2 hours. A heavily loaded filter can need a second clean, which extends that.
- Around Holme, what does it run to?
- The call-out charge takes in the visit, the scan and the advice; the clean itself opens from £299. Settling it is done by phone, since what you drive and where you sit both shift the figure.
- Have I have to be there?
- Nobody expects you to stand with it — the car simply wants space to stand for a couple of hours. The regeneration can be run as a watched drive if you would sooner ride along.
- Coming to Holme — how soon?
- You are in for often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is currently in the calendar. One call to 0303 330 1830 and you will hear what the SG area has available.
- Will the filter be taken off?
- Cleaned where it is, on this service, so no. And neither does getting a filter off nor fitting one back on is work we do.
- What if the light reappears?
- The 30-day warranty takes in aftercare, including an engineer heading back to Holme.
