Hoe, Norfolk: Mobile DPF Cleaning

On-site DPF cleaning travels to the vehicle. No garage, no filter leaving. A fitter comes to your address across Hoe, clears the diesel particulate filter where it is, carries out a DPF regeneration, and you end up with the filter you arrived with.

Reckon on the visit taking typically around 2 hours. The clean starts from £299, fixed over the phone before anyone sets off.

The light is showing and the vehicle is short of power — that is how we usually come across people, and what this page deals with.

The DPF light is on. What next?

The unit is not automatically what is wrong, and that leads. Cleaning is not where a visit starts. A diagnostic is — plenty of faults show up as the same light.

How the car is run in the meantime makes a difference too.

  • Motor still driving as normal on an amber light — have a go at a long even run first. It costs nothing at all and frequently clears the filter without assistance.
  • Motor already fallen into limp mode — that window has shut. A drive will not touch it now.
  • Get it looked at rather than running it — diesel in the interior, or smoke on acceleration, has gone past the long-run stage.

Before the light, what the motor was showing you

Symptoms have usually been mounting for weeks before the light so much as appears. Late news, in other words:

  • power tailing off, especially climbing uphill
  • you notice the revs never reach where they always went
  • consumption that is worse than it used to be
  • stop/start quietly packing in
  • diesel in the car, or smoke on the way up through the gearbox

That is not proof by itself. Alongside the light, it is a fair guess the filter is blocked.

Why diesel particulate filters clog round Hoe

Hoe is a rural hamlet, and the day-to-day driving that belongs to one is the least kind type for a DPF. None of it goes on long enough or gets hot enough for the filter to complete a regeneration: the school run to Swanton Morley VC Primary School, Hall Road crawling at half past eight, five minutes to Co-op Daily, the hop to the nearest station. What should burn off remains.

Neither is a long way from Hoe: under 50 miles to the M11, under 25 miles to Norwich. Neither is on the way to anywhere most weeks, though, so the journey that would scour a filter never comes.

Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration gives out

Limp mode is the vehicle defending itself. Pulling power is held down, the revs will not climb, and the regeneration the filter wants can no longer run — which is the entire problem, because a proper drive works by setting off that regeneration.

Sensible advice, that motorway run — up until the point it is not. Beyond that stage — limp mode — road work will not do it, and the filter requires cleaning.

The car stays in place for call-out DPF cleaning round Hoe

Nothing comes off the car. That catches out people. The DPF remains fixed where it is and the work happens around it, on a driveway, in a works car park, wherever it can wait for two hours or so.

Nothing is cleaned until other faults are cleared. That requires a diagnostic first: running data off the ECU, soot load by percent and by mass, and a look over of the sensors, glow plugs and connected parts.

After that comes the clean itself: a cleaning solution in through the motor's own access point, expanding inside the filter and lifting what a regeneration will not. Severely clogged filters sometimes take a second pass.

Then a regeneration, to clear what the clean has freed. If you are there, that is carried out as a monitored drive out of Hoe; if not, on the spot where the car sits, with the running data verified afterwards.

A second diagnostic proves the change, clears the warning light and lists anything still open. Both reports are emailed over, so you end up with the before and after figures to hand.

Where cleaning is not the fix

A filter blocked with soot and ash is the one thing cleaning fixes. It will not reach:

  • a pressure sensor showing a block that is not there
  • the EGR valve held open
  • a fault in the AdBlue system
  • glow plugs or injectors preventing the regeneration completing in the first place
  • the turbo pushing oil into the filter

That is what the first scan is for. Proving to be one of them means learning it before work begins, not after settling up anything.

A couple more worth knowing. Having the filter gutted is not a remedy — a vehicle without a serviceable DPF fails its MOT and driving it is against the law. And cleaning is sometimes searched for as DPF renewal: nothing is exchanged, your existing filter is treated in place and put back into use.

Costs for DPF cleaning around Hoe

Every visit carries a call-out charge — getting to you, taking the booking, carrying out the check and giving the advice. The clean itself opens from £299.

Not one flat rate would be straight, so the figure is fixed on the phone once we are told the vehicle and what the filter is likely to need. What you run and where you are both change it: Hoe itself, over at Beetley, or farther out in the NR postcode area.

If the check counts a clean out, there is not a penny to pay for it. Because the visit, the scan and the advice have taken place, the call-out charge nonetheless stands.

A 30-day warranty takes in aftercare on the job, and that includes an engineer heading back out to Hoe if the light comes back inside the period.

Call-out DPF cleaning at a vehicle in Hoe

Thank you Nic, you have done a great job for me today. DPF cleaned and all warning lights cleared, drives like new.

Steve C.

Really good service. Everything explained clearly. Pointed out some other engine issues to check out which was very helpful. Expensive compared to other companies but with the 28 day warranty I felt happy to pay to get the best service. Couldn't fault the engineer he was excellent.

Siobhan P.

"The admin team at the office were brilliant-helpful and efficient throughout the process. The engineer was friendly, knowledgeable, and quickly diagnosed the issue. He recommended a third-party technician, who successfully resolved the problem identified during the diagnostics. The car is now running well, and I'm a happy customer!". Isaac.

Where we get to around Hoe, and what we clean

The filter is treated where it sits on all of them: private cars, panel vans and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, construction and plant machinery, agricultural vehicles. Nothing is taken anywhere.

Hoe is rarely a special trip: our engineers are working Hall Road week in week out, and the same run picks up Beetley, Woodgate and the places out past Swanton Morley. It is the schedule, not the distance, that settles whether it is today or tomorrow, and coverage runs UK-wide — so ring still from farther out across Norfolk.

Things Hoe drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Can I merely take it for a long drive?
It can, provided you spot it in time and limp mode has not arrived. Five minutes to Co-op Daily and back will not manage it; motorway speed, kept for a stretch, will.
How long does the visit run?
Count on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean lengthening that where the filter is heavily blocked.
What does it come to across Hoe?
A clean begins from £299, and the call-out charge on top takes in the visit, the check and the advice. Settling it is done by phone, since what you own and where you are both change the number.
Is it necessary for me to be around?
No. The car wants a spot to sit for a couple of hours; you do not need to stand with it. If you would rather come along, the regeneration can be run as a monitored drive instead.
Getting to Hoe — how soon?
You are looking at often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is already in the schedule. Ring 0303 330 1830 and we will tell you what is free across the NR area.
The filter — does it leave the vehicle?
On the call-out service, no: the filter is cleaned in place. Nor does getting a filter off nor bolting one back on is work we do.
What if the light comes back?
An engineer travels back out to Hoe — the 30-day warranty takes in aftercare.
