What the car has been telling you
By the time the light shows, things have usually been slipping for a while. It is late news:
- falling off on power, above all uphill
- revs that will not climb the way they used to
- worse fuel use
- a stop/start that has meekly given up
- the interior smelling of diesel, or smoke when you accelerate
None of that is proof by itself. The light with them indicates a loaded filter.
