Mobile DPF Cleaning serving Hilltop, Shropshire
Treating the DPF takes place at the car, not at a garage. The technician turns up at your place across Hilltop and starts. The diesel particulate filter is cleaned on the motor, a DPF regeneration runs after it, and you hold on to the filter you started with.
Reckon on the visit running typically around 2 hours. The clean opens from £299, fixed over the phone before anyone travels.
Most owners find us with the light on already, and the motor low on power. That is the situation this page is aimed at.
DPF light on? What happens next
First thing: it is not always the filter. Treatment is not where a visit opens. A scan is — several faults appear as the same warning.
Second thing: how you drive it between now and then makes a difference.
- Amber light, vehicle still driving as normal — a long even run can yet shift it by itself. Costs nothing, and worth trying before you call anything.
- Once the vehicle is in limp mode, motoring will not reach it. The window has shut.
- A diesel smell in the car, or black smoke under acceleration, is the moment to stop arranging long drives and call.
The motor has been showing you already
The light is last news. By the time it appears, the symptoms have usually been growing for some time:
- power falling off, above all going uphill
- you find the revs stop short of where they always went
- the fuel use is poorer
- stop/start quietly packing in
- the interior reeking of diesel, or smoke when you accelerate
None of that is proof alone. With the light, it is a fair guess the filter is blocked.
The explanation diesel particulate filters clog round Hilltop
The day-to-day driving that comes with a rural hamlet like Hilltop is the least kind sort for a DPF. The school run to Church Preen Primary School, B4371 at a halt at the morning rush, ten minutes to Family Shopper, the dash to Church Stretton — not one bit of it lasts long enough or runs hot enough for the filter to complete a regeneration. Soot that should clear collects instead.
The map does not assist either. The M54 is under 10 miles from Hilltop and Wolverhampton is under 25 miles away, so unless something takes you out that way regularly, weeks slip past without the long unbroken run that might empty the filter by itself.
Why limp mode stops a DPF regeneration
What limp mode comes down to is the vehicle defending itself. A long drive works by setting off a regeneration, and that is exactly what limp mode prevents: power held down, revs held down, no regeneration possible.
Getting it up the motorway is the standard advice, and it works up to a point. In limp mode you are past that stage: treatment is what will work, not more road work.
On-site DPF cleaning where the car stands across Hilltop
The filter does not come off. That is the bit most drivers do not anticipate: the job is done with the DPF yet fitted to the vehicle, on your front, in a work car park, wherever the car can stand for a few hours.
A diagnostic goes first — running data off the ECU, soot load by proportion and by actual weight, and a look over of the sensor feeds, glow plugs and connected hardware, so other faults are ruled out before any of it is started.
A cleaning fluid next is fed in through the access port on that vehicle, expanding inside the filter to lift soot and ash a regeneration on its own will never move. Heavily clogged filters sometimes require a second pass.
What the clean has lifted is then driven off by a regeneration. If you are there, that is carried out as a monitored drive out of Hilltop; if not, in place where the vehicle stands, with the real-time data read after.
Both sets of figures go over by email, so the figures from either end are kept. The second scan is what proves the change, clears the light and notes whatever is still showing.
Where treatment is not the solution
Only one fault is fixed by a clean: the filter blocked with ash and soot. It does no good for:
- the wrong figure from a pressure or temperature sensor
- a failed EGR valve
- an AdBlue system failure
- failed glow plugs or injectors, so never a regeneration ever completes
- the turbo putting oil into the filter
Finding that out is the first scan's job. You are warned before the work gets going, not after you have handed over, where it turns out to be one of those.
Two more worth knowing. Leaving the filter hollowed out is not a remedy — a vehicle without a working DPF fails its MOT and driving it is against the law. And cleaning is sometimes described as DPF renewal: nothing is replaced, your own filter is cleaned in place and put back into use.
The cost for DPF cleaning across Hilltop
A call-out charge stands whatever follows, and takes in the visit, the booking fee, the scan and the advice passed on. The clean itself begins from £299.
Once we are told what you run, and about what the filter will take, the number gets agreed by phone. A single price for every job would not be truthful. What you run and where you are both shift it: Hilltop itself, out at Presthope, or further out in the TF postcode area.
Where the diagnostic says treatment will not do it, you are not asked to pay for cleaning. What nonetheless stands is the call-out charge, since the visit was made, the diagnostic was run and the advice was offered.
The clean includes a 30-day warranty taking in aftercare, including an engineer heading back out to Hilltop if the light returns inside that time.
Managed to clean the DPF in my Range Rover Evoque whilst in limp mode and get it back on the road in 2 hours. Ashley was knowledgeable and did a cracking job.
Nic came out and fixed my dpf and emissions light, did a fantastic job my car is now running full speed again after going into limp mode.
Igor did an awesome job, super friendly. Was happy to explain to progress and how to try to prevent issues in the future. All in all excellent service.
Vehicles we clean, and where we travel near Hilltop
The filter is done in place on all of them: cars, vans of any size and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, plant and construction machinery, agricultural machinery. Nothing is carried anywhere.
The same trip that puts engineers on B4371 most weeks covers Hilltop, Presthope, Lushcott and the spots beyond Easthope. Further out through Shropshire is still worth phoning about — coverage reaches UK-wide, and it is the diary rather than the distance that settles between this day and the next.

Things Hilltop drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Does a long run clear it?
- Sometimes, if you spot it in time and the motor has not fallen into limp mode. A sustained run at motorway speed is what it wants — not ten minutes flat to Family Shopper and back.
- How long does the visit take?
- That is typically around 2 hours, though a heavily loaded filter can take cleaning twice, which takes longer.
- The cost in Hilltop — what is it?
- Cleaning opens from £299, and the call-out charge on top covers the visit, the check and the advice. Both the vehicle and where you are move it, which is why quoting is done by phone.
- Have I need to be there?
- Space for the car to wait, for a couple of hours, is all that is required. Not you. The regeneration can be done as a monitored drive if you would prefer to ride along.
- How soon can someone get to Hilltop?
- You are offered often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is now in the diary. Call 0303 330 1830 and we will tell you what is available across the TF area.
- Does the filter come off the car?
- Treated where it stands, on this service, so no. That work — a filter off, a filter back on — is not a job we do.
- The light returns — then what?
- The 30-day warranty includes aftercare, including an engineer coming back to Hilltop.
