Mobile DPF Cleaning across Hilltop and Derbyshire
On-site DPF cleaning travels to the motor. The fitter pulls up at your address over in Hilltop and gets to work. The diesel particulate filter is cleaned still on the car, a DPF regeneration comes next, and you end up with the filter you came with.
You'll know a number by phone before anyone goes, the clean opening from £299, and the visit running typically around 2 hours.
The light is already on and the vehicle is low on power — that is how we usually meet people, and what this page deals with.
Your DPF light is on — what now?
It may not be the DPF in the end. That is the first thing. A diagnostic goes before any treatment, because that same dash light has a number of likely faults behind it.
The motoring you do in the meantime tells. That is the other thing.
- Vehicle still driving as normal on an amber light — try a long even run first. It costs nothing at all and regularly clears the filter without help.
- Once the motor is in limp mode, motoring will not reach it. The window has gone.
- Get it looked at rather than driving it — diesel in the car, or smoke on acceleration, has gone well past the long-run stage.
Signs the motor has been giving you
The light is late news. By the time it arrives, the symptoms have usually been mounting for some time:
- going uphill, the power drops away
- revs that will not climb the way they always did
- worse fuel use
- silently, the stop/start gives up
- a diesel smell in the cabin, or smoke under the throttle
That is not evidence by itself. Next to the light alongside them, the filter is a fair assumption.
Why diesel particulate filters choke around Hilltop
For a DPF, the worst motoring is the sort you meet in a rural hamlet such as Hilltop. A regeneration wants the time and heat, and gets not much: not on the school run to Buxworth Primary School, not on Milton Lane at half past eight, not on a few minutes to The Co-operative Food, and not on the dash to Whaley Bridge. What should clear stays put.
Unless you have a regular need to get out to the M67, under 10 miles from Hilltop, or across to Manchester under 25 miles away, entire weeks go by without a sustained stint. Geography is against you.
Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration gives out
What limp mode comes down to is the motor protecting itself. A proper drive works by triggering a regeneration, and that is just what limp mode rules out: power limited, revs held down, no regeneration possible.
Getting it up the motorway is the usual advice, and it works up to a limit. Past that stage — limp mode — road work will not be enough, and the filter needs cleaning.
DPF cleaning at the motor round Hilltop
The filter does not budge. That is the part most people do not anticipate: the job happens with the DPF even now fitted to the car, on your driveway, in a work car park, wherever the motor can stand for a couple of hours.
A scan goes first — running data off the ECU, soot load by percent and by mass, and a review of the sensors, glow plugs and related hardware, so other faults are ruled out before any of it is touched.
Then the cleaning. A cleaning fluid is injected through the access point on that motor and expands inside the filter, freeing the soot and ash a regeneration on its own will never move. Where the filter is badly blocked, plan on a second pass.
Then a regeneration, to drive off what the clean has lifted. That is a monitored drive out of Hilltop if you are along, or a static regeneration where the vehicle sits, with the live data checked once done.
Then a second check, confirming the change, clearing the warning light and logging anything still logged. Both read-outs are emailed, so the before and after figures are kept.
The problems a DPF clean cannot fix
One thing is what cleaning fixes — a filter clogged with soot and ash. It does no good for:
- pressure or temperature sensors reporting a restriction that is not there
- the EGR valve held open
- an AdBlue system failure
- glow plugs or injectors stopping the regeneration completing whatsoever
- oil working through the filter from a worn turbo
The first scan is there for precisely that. Transpiring to be one of them means finding out it before work begins, not after paying a penny.
Two more worth knowing. Having the filter cut out is not a fix — a vehicle without a serviceable DPF fails its MOT and driving it is illegal. And cleaning is sometimes described as DPF renewal: nothing is exchanged, your own filter is cleaned in place and put back into use.
DPF cleaning charges across Hilltop
The cleaning begins from £299. A call-out charge is added to every visit, and covers the call-out itself, the booking, the diagnostic and the advice that comes with it.
The number is agreed on the phone, once we have the vehicle and what the filter is apt to need. No flat rate could be truthful. What you run and where you are both shift it: Hilltop itself, out at Over Leigh, or otherwise out in the SK postcode area.
Where the check says treatment will not help, you are not asked to pay for cleaning. What nonetheless applies is the call-out charge, since the visit was made, the check was carried out and the advice was given.
Aftercare is covered by a 30-day warranty: should the light come back within it, an engineer comes back to Hilltop.
Great prompt next day service. Professional and reliable, fixed the issue and gave advice based upon experience of my model. Would recommend.
Excellent customer service knowledgeable and very efficient booking service. Professional and friendly technician - good to see a customer focused company these days. Would recommend to others.
Dan was fabulous and courteous. He did mention before the clean that the DPF was nearly empty and it was up to me still go ahead with the clean. The clean was performed and the number did improve. Great advice and prompt service. Highly recommended.
What we clean, and how far we travel around Hilltop
The filter is done where it sits on all of them: cars, vans and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, plant machinery, agricultural machinery. Nothing is carried anywhere.
The same trip that has our engineers on Milton Lane most weeks takes in Hilltop, Over Leigh, Buxworth and the villages beyond Tunstead Milton. Farther out across Derbyshire is even so worth ringing about — coverage is UK-wide, and it is the schedule rather than the distance that settles between this day and the next.

Things Hilltop drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Does a long run sort it?
- Quickly enough, and with the motor out of limp mode, yes — sometimes. It takes a steady run at motorway speed, not fifteen minutes to The Co-operative Food and back.
- The visit takes how long?
- Reckon on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean adding to that where the filter is badly loaded.
- What does it run to across Hilltop?
- The call-out charge pays for the visit, the check and the advice; cleaning itself opens from £299. Pricing is done by phone, since what you run and where you are both move the price.
- Must I be present in person?
- No. The car requires space to stand for a couple of hours; you do not need to stand with it. Preferring to be there is no problem: the regeneration then is done out on the open road, monitored.
- Travelling to Hilltop — how soon?
- You are looking at often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is currently in the calendar. Phone 0303 330 1830 what is free across the SK area.
- Is the filter taken off the car?
- Not on the call-out service — it is treated where it is. We never take filters off or bolt them back on, in either direction.
- Suppose the light reappears?
- Aftercare falls inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer coming back to Hilltop.
