Hill Top, West Yorkshire: Mobile DPF Cleaning
Cleaning the DPF is done at the vehicle, not at a garage. No garage, no filter leaving. An engineer travels to your door over in Hill Top, cleans the diesel particulate filter where it is, performs a DPF regeneration, and you keep the filter you came with.
You'll have a number by phone before anyone leaves, the clean beginning from £299, and the visit taking typically around 2 hours.
If the light is on already and the motor is low on power, this page is for you. That is how most owners arrive here.
What to check when the DPF light comes on
It might not be the DPF at all. That is the main thing. That light can arise from a number of faults, not only one, so the visit starts with a scan and not with a clean.
How the motor is run in the meantime makes a difference too.
- Amber light, car yet driving as normal — a long constant run can even now shift it by itself. Costs nothing at all, and worth attempting before you ring anything.
- That window has closed once the vehicle has slipped into limp mode. Motoring will not get there now.
- Stop arranging long drives and get it looked at if the car reeks of diesel or there is black smoke when you pull away.
The vehicle has been showing you already
Symptoms have usually been growing for some time before the light so much as shows. Late news, in other words:
- less power, especially going uphill
- revs that will not climb the way they always did
- the fuel use is down
- the stop/start without a word bowing out
- diesel in the car, or smoke on the way up through the box
That is not evidence on its own. It is a fair assumption the filter is blocked once the light is showing too.
Clogged diesel particulate filters around Hill Top, and the reason
For a DPF, the poorest motoring is the type you get in a residential suburb such as Hill Top. Look at a typical week: Kaye's Academy and home again, Hill Top Terrace at a halt before nine, a short hop to Co-op Food, a dash to Denby Dale. Not much there runs long enough or is hot enough to finish a regeneration. The unburnt soot builds up rather than clearing.
Neither is distant from Hill Top: under 3 miles to the M1, under 10 miles to Wakefield. Neither is on the way to anywhere most weeks, though, so the run that would clear a filter never happens.
Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration stops working
The car is looking after itself, which is what limp mode amounts to. Output is limited, the revs will not rise, and the regeneration the filter requires can not happen — which is the whole catch, because a sustained drive works by setting off that regeneration.
Sensible advice, that motorway run — until the moment it is not. Once the car is in limp mode you are beyond that line, and the filter needs cleaning rather than more driving.
Where the car stands is where the DPF is done round Hill Top
Most drivers do not anticipate this part: the filter stays put. The job takes place with the DPF still fixed to the motor — on your driveway, in a work car park, wherever the motor can wait for a couple of hours.
The ECU is interrogated first, showing soot load by percent and by weight, along with a look over of sensors, glow plugs and associated parts, so nothing is touched while another fault is still open.
Soot and ash that a regeneration alone will never shift are loosened next, by a cleaning solution fed through the access point on that motor, which spreads inside the filter. Sometimes a filter is blocked enough to take doing twice.
A regeneration is next, burning off what the clean has loosened. That is a monitored drive out of Hill Top if you are present, or a static regeneration where the car waits, with the live data checked after.
Finally the check runs again — the change verified, the light reset, anything still open logged. Both read-outs reach you by email, so the numbers are kept.
When a DPF clean is not the fix
Only one fault is cured by a clean: the filter blocked with ash and soot. It does no good for:
- a pressure or temperature sensor flagging a restriction that is not there
- a failed EGR valve
- an AdBlue system fault
- glow plugs or injectors blocking the regeneration running in the first place
- a turbo putting oil through the filter
Which is why the check comes first. You are let know before all work begins, not after you have paid, should it turns out to be one of those.
Hollowing the filter out is not a remedy: without a functioning DPF a vehicle fails its MOT, and driving it is illegal. DPF renewal is the phrase people type in, though nothing is exchanged — your original filter is cleared in place and put back into use. Two more worth bearing in mind.
What DPF cleaning comes to in Hill Top
Any visit takes a call-out charge — getting to you, setting up the booking, carrying out the scan and passing on the advice. The clean itself begins from £299.
Publishing a flat rate would not be straight. We fix it on the phone, once the vehicle and its likely needs are known. A pair of things shift it: what you run, and where you are — Hill Top itself, over at Scissett, or otherwise out in the HD postcode area.
You are not asked to pay for treatment that the check says will not work. Because the visit, the check and the advice have taken place, the call-out charge still applies.
If the light reappears inside that period, an engineer comes back out to Hill Top — the work comes with a 30-day warranty including aftercare.
Jim who came out to me on site, nice guy pleasure to deal with very helpful. checked out my truck reset the computer and away we went no dash lights currently.
Fast, efficient and friendly service. Not cheap, but a lot cheaper than the alternative of fitting a new DPF! Thanks.
Excellent service, completely unclogged my dpf & identified a nox sensor would need replacing. Car now working as new. Recommended.
What we clean, and how far we travel near Hill Top
Whatever it is — car, van, light commercial, heavy goods vehicle, plant, construction machinery, agricultural machine — the very same mobile service stands, and the filter never departs it.
Technicians are along Hill Top Terrace nearly every week, so Hill Top is seldom a detour, and the same run picks up Scissett, Nether End and the villages out past Clayton West. Farther out through West Yorkshire is still worth a call — coverage reaches UK-wide, and it is the calendar rather than the distance that picks between one day and the next.

Questions Hill Top drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Is a long drive enough by itself?
- Sometimes, if you spot it in time and the car has not slipped into limp mode. Fifteen minutes to Co-op Food and back will not manage it; motorway speed, held for some time, will.
- About how long does it take?
- That is typically around 2 hours, though a heavily blocked filter can require cleaning twice, which runs on.
- How much does it run to around Hill Top?
- The call-out charge pays for the visit, the check and the advice; cleaning itself opens from £299. Both the vehicle and where you are change it, which is why settling it is done by phone.
- Have I got to be present?
- No. The car requires somewhere to sit for a couple of hours; you do not need to stand with it. Travel along if you would rather, and the regeneration turns into a watched drive.
- Can someone get to Hill Top soon?
- Depending on the schedule, often same-day or next-day is typical. Ring 0303 330 1830 and you will hear what is available across the HD area.
- Does the filter leave the car?
- On the on-site service, no: the filter is cleaned in place. We never lift filters off or fit them back on, in either direction.
- What if the light returns?
- Aftercare sits inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer heading back to Hill Top.
