Hill, Pembrokeshire: Mobile DPF Cleaning
With on-site DPF cleaning, we drive out to the motor. A fitter comes at your door in Hill, treats the diesel particulate filter while it is attached to the motor, runs a DPF regeneration, and you hold on to the filter you came with.
Allow for the visit lasting typically around 2 hours. The clean begins from £299, agreed over the phone before anyone leaves.
If the light is already on and the car is short of power, this page is the right one. That is how most owners arrive here.
What to do when the DPF light is on
First thing: it is not automatically the unit. Treatment is not where a visit opens. A check is — a number of faults appear as the same signal.
The driving you manage in the meantime matters. That is the second thing.
- A long steady run may even now do it, provided the light is amber and the vehicle goes fine. Costs nothing, so have a go at that before booking.
- Vehicle already dropped into limp mode — that window has closed. A drive will not shift it now.
- Get it seen to rather than driving it — diesel in the interior, or smoke on hard acceleration, has gone beyond the long-run stage.
Before the light, what the car was telling you
By the time the light shows, things have generally been deteriorating for weeks. It is late news:
- power dropping away, above all climbing uphill
- an engine whose revs will not pull like they did
- fuel consumption going worse
- a stop/start that has meekly given up
- the car stinking of diesel, or smoke when you pull away
On its own, none of that is evidence. With the light with them, the filter is a fair guess.
Choked diesel particulate filters around Hill, and the why
The day-to-day driving that belongs to a coastal village like Hill is the least kind kind for a DPF. Not one bit of it goes on long enough or is hot enough for the filter to finish a regeneration: the school run to the local primary school, A478 crawling at half past eight, a few minutes to The Co-operative Food, the hop to Saundersfoot. Instead of burning off, the soot banks up.
Neither is far from Hill: under 50 miles to the M4, under 50 miles to St Davids. Neither is on the way to anything most weeks, though, so the run that would clear a filter never gets made.
Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration stops
The motor is looking after itself, which is what limp mode is. With power capped and the revs kept low, the regeneration the filter wants will not complete at all. That tells, because setting off one is just what a sustained run does.
The usual advice — run it up the motorway — is sound, until it is not. Once the motor is in limp mode you are the far side of that stage, and the filter requires treatment rather than more driving.
DPF cleaning at the vehicle in Hill
The filter does not leave it. That is the bit most drivers do not anticipate: the job takes place with the DPF yet fixed to the car, on your driveway, in a work car park, anywhere the car can sit for a while.
First a check. Live ECU data, the soot load as a percentage and as a figure, the sensors, the glow plugs, the associated hardware — all of it logged before anything is touched.
A cleaning solution then is injected through the access port on that motor, expanding inside the filter to lift soot and ash a regeneration by itself will never shift. A second pass is sometimes called for on badly blocked filters.
Next, a regeneration drives off everything the clean loosened. That is a monitored drive out of Hill if you are present, or a static regeneration where the car stands, with the running data checked once done.
Both reports come through by email, so the figures from either end are on record. The second diagnostic is what verifies the change, resets the light and lists whatever is still outstanding.
When a DPF clean is not the answer
Cleaning fixes one thing: a filter blocked with soot and ash. It does nothing for:
- a pressure sensor flagging a block that is not there
- an EGR valve held open
- AdBlue system faults
- faulty glow plugs or injectors, so not one regeneration ever completes
- oil working through the filter from a worn turbo
Which is why the scan happens first. Where it is found to be one of those, you are let know before any work starts rather than after you have paid for it.
Two more worth knowing. Leaving the filter gutted is not a solution — a vehicle without a working DPF fails its MOT and driving it is against the law. And cleaning is sometimes searched for as DPF renewal: nothing is swapped, your existing filter is cleaned in place and sent back into use.
DPF cleaning charges around Hill
A clean starts from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it pays for the call-out, the booking, the checks and the advice.
Publishing a flat rate would not be truthful. We settle it by phone, once the motor and its likely needs are clear. The car shifts it, and so does the address — Hill, Pentlepoir, or somewhere otherwise out in the SA postcode area.
You are not charged for cleaning that the check says will not help. You even so pay that charge: someone travelled, did the scan and gave you the advice.
If the light returns inside that window, an engineer heads back out to Hill — the job includes a 30-day warranty taking in aftercare.
The tech named Nick was very professional. Had power loss/Rav/Booster sensor, block issues before cleaning. He checked, explained and cleaned the system. Makes a significant difference. Great services. Thanks a lot DPF FIXER.
Very happy with the service that was provided! Nic was efficient and knowledgeable. He seemed very honest and I am back motoring again after 75% blockage! Thank you!!
Dan and trainee Sam came along sorted out the car, got it from trapped on the drive to back on the road in under 1hr and 30 mins. Also highlighted some issues that needed fixing unrelated to the initial problem and gave some after care advice!
Where we reach near Hill, and what we clean
The filter is cleaned on the vehicle on all of them: cars, panel vans and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, plant machinery, agricultural machinery. Nothing is carried anywhere.
Technicians are along A478 nearly every week, so Hill is seldom a journey of its own, and the same run picks up Pentlepoir, The Valley and the places out past Kingsmoor. Coverage runs UK-wide, so further out across Pembrokeshire is nonetheless worth a phone call, and what decides between today and tomorrow is the diary rather than the distance.

Common questions on DPF cleaning in Hill
- Can I simply take it for a long drive?
- If you catch it early enough, and the car is not in limp mode, sometimes. That means motorway speed for a long run, rather than a short trip to The Co-operative Food.
- Does the visit run long?
- Plan on typically around 2 hours — badly loaded filters sometimes take a second pass, which adds to it.
- Price around Hill — what is it?
- It begins from £299, plus the call-out charge covering the visit, the diagnostic and the advice. Quoting is done by phone, since what you drive and where you live both change the price.
- Have I need to be around?
- No. The motor needs a spot to sit for a couple of hours; you need not stand with it. Preferring to be there is fine: the regeneration then runs out on the open road, monitored.
- How soon can someone travel to Hill?
- It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is already in the diary. Ring 0303 330 1830 what is open across the SA area.
- Is the filter taken off the car?
- Done where it sits, on this service, so no. Taking a filter off or fitting one back on count as anything work we do whichever way.
- Suppose the light comes back?
- Taken in by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer travelling back to Hill.
